Maybe in ten years, Appy; you're still very young  :)

This is one of the most profound albums, I'v ever come across. Here the music is actually the handmaiden of the philosophy.

The album starts with:

"I am ... I am ... I am !

I was not, then I came to be. I cannot remember NOT being, but I may have traveled far, very far, to get here."

Later: "Perhaps I was always, forever here, and I just forgot ?  I imagine Eternity would have that effect - would cause a certain amount of drifting - like omnipresence would demand omniabsence."

There's actually a lot of Vedic wisdom in this.

As I said earlier, theosophy's vehicle today is prog  *horns*

Wow! :o :o :o I'm pleasantly surprised!
Very Tangent-like and sometimes a bit Neal Morse-ish with a strong leaning towards folk music. I guess you should think along the lines of Jethro Tull, but I'm no Jethro Tull expert, so I could be well wrong...
Very interesting and nice melodies. Enough space for a keyboard or flute solo, REALLY beautiful!
I have to update my shopping list again...

You (all) should know that Daniel read a lot of books since 1997 or so before getting to the BE album.
I think it's safe to say that he know what he's talking about.
I find the album very intriguing both musically and lyrically.

No, that's what i said.  ;)

All i wanted to add was that the books he read were about God and religion in general.
I assume that a  real theologian knows more or all the answers (if the latter is even possible) but he have done a lot of research over the years what led to the album BE.
He must have learned something about it, I'd say.

NP  10CC:  The Original Soundtrack

This is the one with "I'm Not In Love", "Une Nuit A Paris", "The Second Sitting For The Last Supper", and some other great songs - a real classic album  *horns*

I'm Not In Love still sounds terrific. The title, which is also often sung in the song, is actually ironic. It's so obvious that the guy is madly in love  *horns*

This is actually quite funny (not for Blueys): "A widely-repeated claim, disputed by [Jonathan] King and [Kevin] Godley, but confirmed in a 1988 interview by [Lol] Creme, is that the band name represented a volume of semen that was more than the average amount ejaculated by men, thus emphasising their potency or prowess."  - Wikipedia, 10CC

Ah ok. ;)

Quote from: maddox on Wed, 2008-04-09, 18:36:25All i wanted to add was that the books he read were about God and religion in general.
Aha something like a universal god or religion... All religions are finally one and the same. Indeed very Vedic.
(There are numerous warnings about that in the Bible by the way.)

Quote from: maddox on Wed, 2008-04-09, 18:36:25I assume that a  real theologian knows more or all the answers (if the latter is even possible)
Nah, that's indeed never possible.
I must admit that speculation is very nice always. But talking about the origin of God is something I would not even touch.

Quote from: maddox on Wed, 2008-04-09, 18:36:25But he has done a lot of research over the years what led to the album BE.
He must have learned something about it, I'd say.
Well, I'm helping hoping.
What did he research anyway? He talks about taking his inspiration from the Bible, the book of Mormon, fairy tales, scientific research and fiction... Well well well... how impressive... ::)

Actually, in what does it show Daniels research? I mean, I've read the lyrics, but I can only conclude that it's a lot of empty things. And of course Daniel gets to talk about sex and rape of course, he likes it sooooo much. I wasn't surprised at all.

Daniel Gildenlöw about "BE": 'a kind of modern fairy tale about the genesis of life. It deals with mankind, with God and our relationship with faith and science'.

*sigh*

People are always trying to make God as human as possible, so that we can understand Him... That way we can play God over Him. We can create Him.

Nah, give me Neal Morse any day.

You see, Paco, in my mind there's no contradiction between the Vedas and the Bible. The Vedas are philosophy and metaphysics, about the origins of time and space, and Man, and evolution of consciousness. The Bible is about practising Love and Charity here on Earth, and about the Ultimate, the Resurrection and Eternity.

I think you should give "BE" a spin, Paxi. It's really a groundbreaking album, you got both Tom's, Mad's, and my word for it. (Disregard Appy, he's too groundbroken.)  ;D

Hey, I have to apologise.
I just got a PM from Guy Manning himself and I'm sooooooo ashamed... :-[

He said: "Thank you for you kind comments about my voice..so very nice and informed".
That was in regard of my post about him where I made a joke about his voice and his name.
He is right. :( That was VERY distasteful, so I edited my post. And I will rectify it.

I think sometimes we (or to keep it for myself: I) go too far, here on this forum. Guy Manning was right to PM me about it and made me realise that this is not how we should speak about people.

It happens often that someone doesn't like a persons voice. For example people are complaining about James LaBrie's voice of Dream Theater. And there's of course Fish and Steve Hogarth of Marillion. We can have preferences, and there's nothing wrong with that. But when we talk about our preferred singer, or discussing some music, we should always keep in mind that we're talking about persons, persons with feelings. So respect is due.

I'd like you all to think about that.

I am very ashamed of myself. :-[ We all know that we shouldn't base our opinion on a first listen. In Progressive music, liking is always a proces.
And I am absolutely sure that I'll grow to appreciate Guy Manning's voice. In fact, his voice is VERY varied. (I incite you to listen to The Tangent albums, where he shares lead- and backingvocals with Andy Tillison and (on earlier albums) Roine Stolt.) His voice is sometimes warm and passionate, other times cheerful and uplifting. Besides, he's also an extremely gifted songwriter and musician. He is another multi-instrumentalist. And as I've said before, I am totally blown away and pleasantly surprised by Skimming Stones, a song from Guy's 2007 album "Songs From The Bilston House". Very varied music, with beautiful melodies.

From now on I'll try to be more thoughtful when talking about bands, singers, musicians. They're doing the best to keep us pleased. They put out music, and then there are people (like me) who shamelessly drag their name through the dirt, by calling them names and generally hurt them.
