Tenacious D. in "The Pick of Destiny"  *horns*
(Yes, I know that this is a DVD and not music - has a lot of music though! And don't you just love Jack Black?)

Quote from: maddox on Fri, 2007-09-07, 17:06:44I bet one of them is Is This Love?  ;)

Indeed. The other one is "Sometimes They Stay, Sometimes They Go".

Now playing (on my keyboard) the piano intro of Firth Of Fifth.
That is, I'm trying to play it. The first two bars are ok, but then I get lost. But I KEEP ON GOING!!!

Dont worry PH. Even the guy in Regenesis mucked it up....so much once that he didnt carry on and they went straight into the verse!!

Indeed Maddox!
It reminds me that I need to buy more of Spock's.
I only got Snow, Octane and Spock's Beard.
V's gotta be next.

I'm now watching little bits of "Hogfather" on YouTube. It isn't quite "funny" or anything at the moment, but I'm sure it's nice anyway. I wonder if I can buy it somewhere?

OK, it's real heavy, and it's growly, but apart from that ....... it's veeery different from anything else in this genre. It's strangely melodic, and has some weird keyboards struggling for power with the guitars.

Seriously worth a couple of spins, guys (the weed may help here).

Swedish group from Höör, sorta Sweden's answer to De Smet, Dakota.

Nicky is an example of people who want their favourite music labeled as prog. ;)

I can play the acoustic guitar intro to Ministry Of Lost Souls (Dream Theater) on my keyboard! ;D
And it sounds brilliant!
Oh and prog too.

Nicky007

OK, so you're prog too, Pac-O, but in your case I'm not sure whether it's rock or weed.

Frog Rock?
Rock Frock?

Weed Rock is actually Psychedelic Rock, or Space Rock.
But I like the label "Weed Rock".

Alice Dee would be a nice name for a band.

It's more like: I like the groups because they're prog, more or less.

It's more about ......... my intelligence  ;D

Aaaahhh now you're hitting another topic!

Are prog people more intelligent than lets say hip hop listeners?

No, I wouldn't say so, but proggies are generally older than hip-hoppers. Generalising further, I would say that when you're young, you're rebellious, everything's burning in you, and the music you dig is characterised by this, it's sharp, provocative, criticises current social conditions, and it's more spontaneous than deliberative.

Prog, on the other hand, is a much more mature business, it's explorative and progressive, and deals more with basic existential matters.

As I mentioned earlier in the Room, I see prog as the metamorphosis of classical music - Beethoven and his ilk.

On a personal level, I find it great that you youths, Pac-O, Appy, Maddox, and several others, show such maturity and that we can talk across the generations here in the Room, but you guys should also make sure that you fully experience all the freshness and spontaneity that youth offers, you know, falling in love (here's one for you, Tom) and all that ilk.

Errr... how old is Maddox? Isn't he married and all?
That of course doesn't mean that he didn't show maturity... well, maybe it does in some cases, but...

And I experience some of the things that youth offers, like falling in love! ;D
Just not EVERYTHING youth offers, since youth is very... errmm... rebellious these days, and I'm far from that.
Well you should ask my parents, but...

NP  A Perfect Circle:  eMOTIVe

This is APC's famous album with cover songs. There's a bit of everything here, some of it really gets me rockin, and some of it gets me shudderin, but ingenious it sure is.

Maynard certainly has drawn things far from their origins; e.g. Lennon's Imagine is recognisable, but has a very different mood here.
