Jeff Lynn's ELO - Alone In The Universe

Found it on Spotify. If you have a login, you can find it here.

Second listening. Very recognisably ELO, nothing new under the sun. Only about 35 minutes, all (poppy) tracks are shorter than 4 minutes. But hey, I've got a weak spot for this band and more of you do ;).

pp: Subsignal - The Beacons Of Somewhere Sometime (Yep, it finally arrived. Great album, but time will tell if it'll top their previous album 'Paraiso'. Frankly speaking I don't think so. Yet a very high level 8).)

Flying Colors - Second Flight: Live At The Z7

Not convinced, maybe I should play it more often. Prefer the Neal Morse (Band) music.

It's different indeed. Maybe a litlle more raw or too eclectic for its own good ? So far I like it better than the studio versions though.

JF Angra - Fireworks

NP Nightwish - Dark Passion Play Good to listen to The Poet and The Pendulum again. It has been years since my last listen. Overall a very decent album.

Pyramaxx - Distance

On Progstreaming.com. Electronic Instrumental Music, a bit of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Pink Floyd. So far not bad at all. Let's see, or better: hear how long I will like it. Most of the time after a while I get bored of instrumental music.

It sounded enough like Jean Michel Jarre to keep it interesting, listened to the whole album :).

pp: Mystery - Delusion Rain (A contender for my top-3 favourite 2015 releases 8))
np: Threshold - European Journey (Never noticed growls before on Threshold releases. The first track 'Slipstream' contains them, but not that disturbing ;). Great live album!)

We should rename this the Teunis Thread. :)

Yesterday and today I listened to:
Blind Ego - "Mirror"
Threshold - "For The Journey"
Spock's Beard - "The Oblivion Particle"
Kamelot - "Haven"
Opeth - "Ghost Reveries"

We should rename this the Teunis Thread. :)

So maybe it's an appropriate time for me to post ;)

Opeth - "Ghost Reveries"

Continues to be my fave Opeth album. That raw energy combined with so much melody - whew *horns*

But there are sooo many great Opeth albums by now 8)

See, Teunis, you're missing all that with your adamant attitude toward growl ;)

NP  Leprous:  Coal  *horns*

Thanx again, Paxi, for promoting this album in the Room ;)

It's my fave album these days 8)

That high crystal-clear wordless singing - sounding like it's coming from the Great Unknown - with that jittery djent bass, man, it's unbelievable !!!

Teunis, I get that there are parts of this album that don't go well with you, but try playing Track 4 "The Cloak" to Track 7 "Echo". This is the core of the album, filled with beauty. I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

Else I'm mainly listening to black and dark metal, regressing into the remote beginnings with Venom's Welcome To Hell (1981) and Black Metal (1982, considered the first BM album), Burzum's Filosofem, Bathory's Under The Sign Of The Black Mark, and more. Reading Dayal Patterson's excellent "Black Metal : Evolution of the Cult".

Also seeking up some other odd music, like Nico's Marble Index from 1969 - odd indeed :o

Also Darkology's Fated To Burn from this year 2015 - recommended to all heavies in the Room, with Kelly Carpenter on vocals and Michael Harris on guitar, pushing Coal to get first ;)

Well, I do like two Opeth albums: 'Damnation' and 'Pale Communion' *horns*. I've tried 'Deliverance', but had to push the 'stop' button soon ;).

Oh but I do like 'The Congregation' for 90%. I'll play the tracks you mention.

Yeah, Deliverance may just be the darkest Opeth album. At the time, they divided things up into Damnation - acoustic - and Deliverance - very heavy. The titles would indicate the opposite, but maybe Opeth wanted to fool people ;)

You could try Blackwater Park. There is some growl, but it's not so scary, and there's a lot of great mood and atmosphere.

It would be a pity to miss out on these great Opeth albums.

Yeah, I know that, we already talked about that. Hey, Teunis, I'm the one who's old enough to be allowed to be senile, not you ::)

So you are still alive Nicky ? Good to know  ;)

JF Threshold - European Journey What else ?

NP Avantasia - The Mystery of Time I was rather disappointed when this album came out, I got this "more of the same once again" feeling that I guess we all have experienced with many bands. But giving it a fresh relisten two years later, I really enjoy it a lot ! I guess Avantasia hits all the right buttons for me though I would be glad to get a few more polytechnics sometimes ...

Hey, you shouldn't be talkin big, you never told us what brought you to Oz, man ???

So what ? And where ? Still there ? How long ? Took your family along ?

You can write in French if ya want - or Aboriginal - just write somethin - or play it on the didgeridoo ::)

Hey, that's funny, bravo !  ;D

My Partner (the Empress as you know that I like to call her) has found a job in Melbourne. It's a three years contract and it's already been 16 months so 20 more to go. And so far I haven't for a job there myself so I have some spare time ... Happy with that Nick (though it's not really the proper thread to discuss about it) ?

So given the references you guys are giving, I will have to check Teramaze !

I just listened to a few songs and I can hear why it reminds you of SW or CM (I have not listened to Wolverine so far). The guitar soli are quite impressive, the music as a whole is a work in progress for me so far.

And guess what, I thought there were Finnish or Norvegians but no, they are Australian and live in the Melbourne area, which means that I will probably be lucky enough to see them on stage. It's a small world  :o

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNP5zsvVGc8 The solo on this one has to be heard !

They changed their vocalist for their new album, the new one has a much more high-pitched voice. You can find a couple of (very professional but not very innovative) videoclips on YT.

PH

Yesterday I listened to Spock's Beard's 'Best Of' compilation called "The First Twenty Years".
I actually bought it for the new 20 minute song (written by Neal Morse) which includes all Spock's members past and present. But when I listened to the discs (yeah, it's a double cd) I realised what an exceptionally good band this is. Every song on this compilation was a perfect choice in my opinion. Really enjoyed it.
Oh and of course, the new song is fantastic! :)
Now I just need to see the bonus dvd (yeah, they also added that one to the package).

Thanx, Bupie, that will do :)

I just found it odd that all of a sudden you were writing from Oz, without any notice, like, we just moved to another block in town ???

I'm listening a lot to the recent Cherry Red remasters of the first four City Boy albums (two double-cd's + bonus, from 2015). City Boy - from Birmingham ;) - remained under the radar during their active years 1976-81, never got the audience they merited, and today they're barely known. Sad, cuz their music is really super, melodic capricious rock with a lot of harmonies, tasty guitar. Holds well, sounds fresh and captivating also today.

Hopefully this new release is a result of people listening more to this great group and wanting a state of the art production. That Malcolm Dome has written the liner notes for the two releases adds to the buzz.

Yeah, I knew that. Maybe I should have mentioned it, but it's nicer to find it out yourself. I hope you'll be able to attend a gig. Noticed there's a gig listed on 5th December. Location: Wagga Wagga, Australia ::). Don't know if it's far from where you live.
