NP  Leprous:  Coal  (on repeat)

OK, I have to eat my words: This is a magnificent album, possibly even better than The Congregation *horns*

Paxi, I'll withdraw my wager. I now get why you're so enthusiastic about it 8)

I'm also surprised: It's a very advanced album, pushes limits in all ways, grating, pounding, shrieking, but also melodic, atmospheric, beautiful :)

You'll soon be able to appreciate Sagoth and KoK ;)

Yesterday I listened to it all afternoon, just couldn't get enuff of it, drove me bonkers in the end :o

Made me think of Edvard Munch, another Norwegian, the master of existential unease and angst. One thinks of the long, dark, cold Norwegian winters that really press on the soul.

Man, this is some monster of an album. Guys, get into it, do yourselves that favor !!!

And Thanx, Paxi, you really got it right this time :)

The Butterfly Man

Of course there are some filler songs (This Is The Life, Far From Heaven...)

I'm sorry but you're wrong. Especially This Is The Life is a great song from beginning to end. And Far From Heaven is my wife's favourite DT-song. So yeah, you're wrong. :P

QuoteDoes anyone know whether they're writing again? Looking at their releases interval of two years, they should have a new studio album coming out this year. But probably not...

Quote from: Teunis on Fri, 2015-08-28, 20:15:25
According to Progwereld.org (wereldse verwachtingen) a new album is scheduled for Autumn 2015.

Progwereld is wrong. The new album was scheduled for release this autumn but they pushed it back to around February next year.

Spock's Beard ~ The Oblivion Particle

The new Beard album proves my previous statement that Leonard is better off in Beard than he is in Enchant.
His voice suits the music of Beard better than Enchant, though I like to listen to Enchant as well.
The Great Divide is a decent album, but lacks something that the new Beard album has.

Great album!  *horns*

Listen to the man, Paxi, he's right. Face it, DT don't make filler songs. That's the First Law of Prog!

The Second Law of Prog is that their self-titled album is fabulous!

So stop breakin the Law, Paxi >:(

I like to listen to Enchant as well.

No you don't, Mad >:(

Listened to:

Kashmir:  E.A.R

Beautiful atmospheric melodic progrock. Some standout songs: Seraphina, Peace In The Heart.

Kashmir are a Danish band, started 1991, well-known here, their latest four studio albums have reached first place on the national sales list.

Paxi, you'll like this album.

E.A.R is an abbreviation of Eternally Amplified Restlessness - whatever that is ???

Devin Townsend Project:  Addicted

Nice, but a bit much saloon metal, and lack of variation. He's made better albums.

Heart:  Greatest Hits

Ann Wilson sings fabulously (pantheon here), and they have a few good hits - What About Love, Alone - but also here too little variation, and too little melody. Aint gonna keep this album.

Chicago:  Greatest Hits

Same thing:  Pete Cetera sings beautifully, and they have some good hits - If You Leave Me Now, 25 or 6 To 4 - but in the long run it gets real gushy. Goes out.

Wilco:  Yankee Hotel Foxtrot  &  A Ghost Is Born

The first one has a couple of good songs, particularly Ashes Of American Flags. I'll keep it. The second is too boring, goes out.

Jeff Loomis:  Plains Of Oblivion

This is of course an entirely different kettle of broccoli. Jeff Loomis rules! I've been playing this one a lot, and most of the tracks are now in Classic Songs *horns*

In case there's anyone here who doesn't know anything about prog, Jeff Loomis was the guitarist of Nevermore, and after having left N, he made two brilliant solo albums, also Zero Order Phase. In 2014 he joined Arch Enemy ???

I'm a big fan of this luvly lady, yup, she's pantheon with me. She has so much expression, and sings like a w* dream :-*

Great to see that you like it as much as I do!
I have to say though that their new album is faaaaar from bad. I'll probably like both albums almost as much now. Sometimes a slight preference for the one and then the other. Fantastic albums. "The Congregation" will end up high in my end of year list, like "Coal" did in 2013.

Today I listened to:
Leprous - "The Congregation"
Steven Wilson - "Hand. Cannot. Erase."
Sylvan - "Home"

Haven't listened much to the latter yet. In fact this is the first time I got through the full thing. Some parts were very nice. Very melodic. But the singer gets on my nerves after a while. A common problem with this band so it seems. He's not a bad singer at all, so please don't sack him, but they should have a very serious talk...

I like it more than you do, Paxi, cuz I get the noisy, growly part of it :P

OK, guess I shook you guys up a bit ;)

I'm listening to quite a lot of chick stuff these days, got some second-hand cd's cheap:

PJ Harvey:  Let England Shake

8) album, this lady is quite special, in an intriguing way, sharp, humorous, very musical *horns*

Alanis Morissette:  Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie

The first songs seem rather alike, but along the way she gets more edge *horns*

Karmakanic - "Who's The Boss In The Factory"
Very nice indeed. Glad to have this disc. The singer is pretty good! I like how he sounds like Roine Stolt in some places. He even sounds like Roger Waters sometimes. I sense a lot of Floyd in the guitar department too.

I'm now listening to Riverside's "Love, Fear And The Time Machine". Two tracks in and already think this is gonna be good. I'm at work so I need to re-listen when at home, but for now: very nice.

Fun fact: When I look out of my window this early morning it looks very much like the album cover!

Put all of my 2015 releases in a playlist and played it randomly.
So far I listened to these:
Arena - The Demon Strikes
Lonely Robot - Oubliette
Nightwish - My Walden
Kamelot - My Therapy
Sylvan - Black And White
The Gentle Storm - Eyes Of Michiel (Gentle Version)

Anyone else who also uses this tactic from time to time? I think it's a great way to enjoy/appreciate individual songs and listen to songs that you normally wouldn't listen to much. For example, Lonely Robot, Nightwish or Sylvan doesn't get played that much here.

No, can only play one cd at a time in my stereo system ;).

Played the new Riverside album twice today. Frankly speaking I'm a little bit disappointed. Maybe it needs more listenings, but it lacks catchy melodies from time to time.

It sounds a lot like Lunatic Soul right? At least, that's what I was thinking. Not a bad thing in my book. Though it's not really Prog Metal anymore.

Right and I do also like LS, but from Riverside I'd expected more. More melodies and more power. Curious what it'll sound like live.
