I do take an interest in stuff I haven't heard before. Even if I end up not liking it.  ;)

See, that's what I mean, Matt. One would think that if a senior Roomie said that X was his fave group, that it would create some interest in the Room. I think that only Paxi and Funky have listened a bit.

Bal-Sagoth are not only an accomplished rock group, they have raised rock music to a new level. Never before has the best in English literature, mythology and theosophy been brought together with the best in music with such brilliance as Sagoth have done it.

JF Seventh Wonder - The Great Escape

I had to cut my right hand to stop pushing the Repeat button at the end of Long Way Home. Painful ...

NP Lazuli - Tant que l'herbe est grasse

Thanks to progstreaming, at last I discover this French band highly praised by the prog community. As we say in French, "nul n'est prophète en son pays".

One Direction maybe ?  ;)

PH

Previously played:

Opeth - "Watershed"
This one isn't as special to me as "Blackwater Park", "Damnation" or "Ghost Reveries". But it IS a very good one.

Glass Hammer - "If"
This is actually a pretty nice album. It did take a few times before it finally opened up to me. Glass Hammer is another band that I just know I should like. Their new album is one I have to buy.

Now playing:
Nolan & Wakeman - "The Hound Of The Baskervilles"
This feels like coming home! I really like this album. It's a dream for every synth/keyboard fan. Some people would say that this is just too many keyboards. But it suits me just fine! 8)

A great album. "Seldon" is my favorite track - the organ work is immense and Ian 'Moon' Gould's vocal is perfect for this track!

NP Karmakanic - In A Perfect World

Very promising first listen 8)  Turn It Up could have received some airplay in other times ; this track has a strong Rabin's Yes taste IMHO.

The Butterfly Man

JP: Tremonti - Tremonti

Solo-album from Mark Tremonti, the guitarplayer from Creed and Alter Bridge. I think I mentioned this album in my previous life in the Room, but I'm not really sure. Anyway, it's still a fab album. Check out this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA9QXtZiGuU  *horns*

NP: Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition

Super album (especially when you're at the gym)!

One Direction maybe ?  ;)

:) guys. Guess I got around to saying what I thought was needed ;)

JP  Sagoth:  The Chthonic Chronicles  (sixth and last in the Hexalogy)  *horns*

"The Testament of the Winds:

Many thousands of years ago, they ruled the globe. But the pressing fist of great power carried a heavy price, and now their dominion has fallen beyond time and shadow. Look now, to the interior world.

Far, far beneath the surface of this coruscating sphere, at the very core of our mysterious globe, lies the true path to man's dark destiny beyond the heavens."

Then jumped back to the first:

JP  Sagoth:  A Dark Moon Broods Over Lemuria

Very interesting to go back to the beginning - after having been sent out into the stars - and the interior of the Earth 8)

Lemuria is far from being in league with the other five, but here and there there's some of the wonderful melodic symphonic stuff :)

JP  Manowar:  Warriors of the World

A lot better than their reputation *horns*

JP  Dyscaphia  on  YouTube

Not for (tender) Roomies. Harsh and shoutie stuff. Tarkan Alp is the singer in Kull, the metamorphosis of Sagoth, with the Maudling Brothers. He is the guitarist in Dyscaphia. Honors in history and philosophy from Sheffield Uni btw.

JP  Tremonti:  So You're Afraid  8)

It was Blackwater Park by Opeth but now it is Ecailles De Lune by Alcest which is nice

Dustwalker by Fen which i am sure Nicky would appreciate although maybe not in a Bal Sagoth way  ;)

Thanx, Funky, just read about them on Wiki: "Fen is a British black metal/post-rock band formed in 2006 from the Fens of East Anglia signed to the label Code666. Their Myspace page reports that they 'draw the listener into a windswept and desolate landscape, bereft of hope'."

"Bereft of hope" :P

It sounds to me in the vein of Immortal, who are pantheon with me.

I'v added Fen to my groups to check 8)

Funky, have you listened a bit more to Sagoth ? Tell me what you think.

My fave pieces (you can't really call Sagoth tracks "songs") are Starfire Burning Upon The Ice-Veiled Throne Of Ultima Thule (vintage Sagoth title ;D ), and The Hammer Of The Emperor. I'v posted links to them several times in the Room. I can hear them over and over again *horns*

NP  Black Sabbath:  Mob Rules

You'r right: fabulous album *horns*

Whether it's better than H&H, I can't say yet. I'v ordered the H&H cd, and I'l get MR as soon as finances allow 8)

Sabbath with Dio are very different from Sabbath with Ozzy. The Dio stuff is more melodic and enjoyable. Still, the early Ozzy albums have their special charm, and let's not forget how groundbreaking Sabbath were *horns*

Iron Savior with ... iron Savior !!

Decent Euro power metal a la Gamma Ray and although not normally my bag of metal it is decent fun.

Must be my age but the old cookie monster vocals are not ringing my bell anymore so nice to hear a decent singer give it some welly !!
