NP  My Dying Bride  YouTube Mix  8)

Jonny M plays keys on Evinta :)

Rather monotonous to my taste, so I'm not apt to buy an album :-\

Anyone into My Dying Bride ?

Moon Safari - "Blomljud"

Very nice.

They sometimes remind me of A.C.T.
And sometimes of Yes.

Occasionally i am yes

Like gods of the sun
A line of deathless kings
For lies i sire

Are all listenable

Funky, I posted a link to Bal-Sagoth The Hammer Of The Emperor earlier, but it seems that you (and everybody else) missed it ;)

I think that once you hear this piece, then you'll know what I'm talking about - mindblowing *horns*

By the way, did somebody listen to the new A.C.T. ?

PP Yes - Talk

I am beginning to understand why it is so much praised here.

NP Karmakanic - Who's The Boss In The Factory

The epic Send A Message From The Heart is a clear winner. I find that there is a strong Transatlantic vibe in this one.

OK, Thanx for listening, Funky. It's difficult to get people to try out something as progressive as Bal-Sagoth, even people who like to consider themselves prog ;)

"Cheesy" is the immediate reaction by everybody. (Paxi also used this word earlier, and it's often used in the Amazon reviews of the Sagoth albums.) We obviously have to protect ourselves against something so far-reaching ;)

Sagoth is to my mind the most advanced (ad)venture in Progworld. It is so because the best in Western music has been combined with the finest in English language, literature, and mythology. The Bal-Sagoth Hexalogy is a torch of both art and learning *horns*

I'd say, start with the second album in the Hexalogy, Starfire Burning Upon The Ice-Veiled Throne Of Ultima Thule - or just Starfire, as the guys call it. It is gratifying in itself, and then you can follow the gradual progress of Sagoth by getting into the albums in their proper order.

As the lyricist Byron Roberts wrote to me:

"Bal-Sagoth is right where it should be... in the shadows, still proudly in the underground that spawned us, hidden from the mainstream; a rare gem to be discovered by those with the willingness and the patience to seek it out! In many ways, a sublime clandestine cult band shrouded in arcane shadow and secrecy."

Very true!

Maybe some of you will join me now in this great adventure .... 8)

I'm listening to all of my New Species sampler discs on shuffle in WinAmp.
First one is:
The Opium Cartel - "Ardor"
Mariner, Come In

This is actually pretty good! Very dreamy. I remember Teunis mentioning them. I might want to check up on them further. Especially since the members are from highly regarded scandinavian prog bands.

The second:
Traumhaus - "Das Geheimnis"
Wohin Der Wind Dich Trägt

This is not bad either. The current Spock's Beard drummer Jimmy Keegan is drumming on this. It has pretty nice German vocals.

The third:
XII Alfonso - "Charles Darwin"
Leaving England

Nice acoustic guitar. Pretty folky stuff. Some Mike Oldfield influences I guess. I like it. This seems to be a concept double album about Charles Darwin. Interesting.

The fourth (the one I'm listening to right now):
Kaipa - "Vittjar"
Our Silent Ballroom Band

This is an edited version, because the original is more than 20 minutes long. Well, I'm pretty much a fan of Kaipa (old and new), so this is perfect.

These samplers might come in handy after all. 8)

Nosound - Lightdark

I hope you have the number 5 because it has two huge tracks :

Unitopia's What Kind Of World which is just unbelievably good  *horns* I can't understand how this one did not make the cut of their Artificial album (it's only a bonus track)  :o My fave prog song of 2010 !

Phideaux's Tempest Of Mutiny which is a great track too.

And a few others are worth hearing on this sampler  ;)

NP Royal Hunt - Paradox

I have all twelve New Species samplers (assuming there aren't any more yet).
The two tracks you mention are pretty good. At least, the Unitopia one, fantastic song indeed! The other is one I haven't listened to yet.
But the strange thing is, in my collection these songs appear on the very first New Species.
New Species V also has a few brilliant songs.

You should  ;)

I have got mine as free CD when ordering on progrock.co.uk. They are called Classic Rock Society New Species. I'll check again but I am pretty sure it's number five.

NP The Pineapple Thief - Introducing The Pinneapple Thief

Rather pleasant but I would not categorize it as prog rock. A mix of Anathema, Porcupine Tree, Coldplay, Muse, etc.

Bupie

I checked and you are right : it has no number so it is indeed the first New Species.

NP Eloy : Reincarnation On Stage

Another interesting discovery -since I don't know Eloy at all- on progstreamingclassic.

JP- Demon - Gazpacho there is something about this group that I love. They are doing a special in London with several other groups on 15th April but I may need to go to Leamington on the 14th to see the normal concert  >:(. It will be a 4 hour round trip. hence the  >:(
