Hey folks, long time no see... hardly any <serious> music listening possible at my side atm...

Just stumbled over a bookmark for progstreaming.com, clicked it, saw that Threshold have a new album released, and....

Wow! What a great album. Catchy from the beginning. Clearly Karl Groom's production, if I'm not totally dumb many sounds are similar to Arena's :) But really, this is a rocker!  *horns*
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

Neal Morse's "Momentum" (I know I'm going to like it, but perhaps not as much as "Testimony Two" or "Sola Scriptura".)
It's definitely a grower. Yesterday evening I watched 'The Making Of'. I have been listening the album several times now, but watching the DVD really helps to appreciate the album even more I can assure you, cool! It's released for a week now, time will tell but I'm inclined to say that I'll like Testimony Two more in let's say a year or so ;).

Arjen Lucassen's "Lost In The New Real" (I found out that I'm not really a fan of his voice after one and a half hours of (otherwise nice) music.)
Hmm. Heard this one also on progstreaming. Will not buy it, maybe I'm a bit Arjen-tired or so :-\.

Just played: Asia - XXX
'I will surrender my heart to the sky
Oh, our love doesn't end here, it lives forever on the wings of time'

Toto - Wings of time (Kingdom of Desire)

Iggy

NP Threshold - Dead Reckoning.

erik

NP The Gathering - Disclosure - I Can See Four Miles

Also on progstreaming.com 8)

Brilliant album, previous album The West Pole passed me by after Anneke's departure, but this is really good! >> add to shopping list

Yeah, I thought so too. Didn't have any time to watch it though. But perhaps tomorrow.

That's exactly my experience. I get a feeling I've heard it all before. But I don't give up on him.

Today I listened to "Momentum" and "Storm Corrosion" (got my dad interested in that one). Also It Bites' "Once Around The World", which is extremely catchy and so much fun.

Just wanted to play Arjen's album on progstreaming, but it's not listed (anymore)? Maybe Arjen didn't like the idea of his album being freely available, albeit only streamed...
Don't really know about the legality of that site, now that everybody talks about copyright and such...

PS: Just watched the teaser video on Arjen's website. And the first thought that crossed my mind was: He doesn't seem to like his own voice too much, otherwise he wouldn't put it through a voicecoder that often. The second thing was, that maybe he didn't want to pay Metal V.I.P. cheques any more :P

It's very legitimate, Peter.
No music is played on that site unless the artist and/or the record company approves it.
The 'mastermind' behind progstreaming is also a reviewer for the Dutch equivalent of the DPRP site, meaning it's only written in Dutch.

The music will be available for a brief time, mostly a month or so, and because new albums are added to the site, the older albums will disappear in time.
It would take a huge space to keep all the artist on the site, forever. ;)

Em,
artists and record labels, even big record companies, have absolutely nothing to say in that direction. Every country has an institution that has been fully legitimized to do the exploitation of music rights in that country, be it radio airplay, live performance, TV broadcast, internet sale and: internet broadcast, or any other means of distribution. In Germany, that institution is called "GEMA", Clive can sing a song about them, as he has to pay fees every time he comes to Germany, even though he only plays his own songs. I'm too lazy to do a search right now for the name of the dutch analogy, but there is one, I'm sure. So, if progstreaming.com doesn't pay fees to them, they will surely get in trouble sooner or later.

Oh, and if you know the DPRP guys, give them my greetings, a few years back I did the forum stuff for them :)

I think you are revering to BUMRA STEMRA.
They do the same thing as GEMA.

I must admit, I don't know anything about that matter but like I said, I do know that the albums are air-played on Progstreaming, for a limited time, like for instance the Transatlantic live album was only a week, and the artist give them their full cooperation for it.

Will do!

If I'll see/hear/read them. ;)

They do indeed pay the fees to BUMA, this was mentioned explicitly in an interview with the initiator in the last issue of the Dutch magazine iO Pages.

The site is intended to be able to listen to recently released albums to decide if you like them enough to buy them, so the rotation is six weeks or so. The idea is that prog albums need more than one listen and in its entirety, not just samples, to make a good judgement.

I think this website is a very good idea for both listeners and artists in this digital age *horns*

That's good to hear. Then hopefully they will be around for a while.

Don't play this one that much... And to be honest, this album has the right to be played. It's actually really good.
I wonder if they're ever making a second album.

Oh, and hi, Steve Jones.  I hope your appearance wasn't just a one-off.  The biscuit banter is sadly lacking without you.
