NP Porcupine Tree - Signify

I just sold back my copy. I am listening to it one last time before sending it to the buyer. I really like Dark Matter and Waiting but the rest of the album leaves me rather cold. I'll buy Stars Die to get Dark Matter again plus songs from PT's first period that I don't know at all. But it's very unusual for me to trade an original album for a compilation.

Actually, this ultimate listen at night with headphones was pleasant and the album is cohesive as a whole ... but it's sold.

Regret?
I know I would. I love Porcupine Tree and each album has something unique to offer.
The title track, both phases of Waiting and indeed Dark Matter. I also like the intro.

I'm in line with Paxi here: Re my pantheon artists and groups, I strive to get their entire catalogues, with very few exceptions (like I don't have a need to get When Dream And Day Unite). My pantheon groups are genius, and they'l have a good reason to release an album with exactly those songs they have chosen on it.

NP  Anubis Gate:  Andromeda Unchained  *horns*

I noticed that the AG albums, apart from their latest self-titled, have become rare and expensive in the Amazon network. I fortunately had AU, and I ordered the last copy of The Detached at an Amazon.UK shop for some 60 Euros, as well as the self-titled album for an ordinary price. If you guys want an album by this amazing group, then I suggest you be fast  ;)

I noticed it too but you can still find both of them at a reasonable price on Amazon France : 15 euros for AU and 25 for Detached. There is only one copy of each left though  :P

@ PH. Yes, a few regrets but not enough to lose sleep and I am happy to discover their earlier work through Stars Die, so ...

NP Martin Orford - the Old Road

I am more and more impressed by this one. Now I find it better than Classical ... 8)

Oops, I made a mistake there, I was thinking of $. It's more like 35 Euros, including postage. I could of course save some 7 Euros and get an entirely new copy of it at Amazon.fr, but I don't wanna create that inconvenience for others. But thanx for the tip, Bupie, I'l check Amazon.fr too next time  :)

Have you listened to Anubis Gate ?  I would consider them rather harsh for your taste. But if you play an AG album some 3-4 times, you could probably adapt to their sound  ;)

Gazpacho - London in preparation for Gazpacho in London.   *horns*

If I come into some money, I'll have to fly across the pond and demand that you folks take me to all these great shows you've got (here's where Nicky tells me I live right near Dream Theater, but I'd rather see Gazpacho  :P).

Recently Played:

Agents of Mercy - The Black Forest    a fine purchase.   *horns*
Discipline. - Unfolded Like Staircase    progtastic, will take many plays to fully comprehend, but of course, I like it that way.  They're kind of "angry symphonic" - no elements of Yes here
Sylvan - Posthumous Silence    so far I like the new one better, but this has all the earmarks of a grower -- if nothing else, there's lots more to figure out
RPWL - Beyond Man and Time    After just a few plays, I already like this a lot.  Will most likely be buying it.
Anathema - Eternity    This one has grown on me a lot.
Anathema - A Natural Disaster    The first one I bought and a winner.
Anathema - We're Here Because We're Here    Certainly a pretty album, but I think I may have preferred them a bit angrier/sadder.

I'm contemplating getting "A Fine Day to Exit" too.  "Judgement" is my favorite, but I just switched it out of heavy rotation in the car, so I'm trying to vary what I play a bit.

NP: Gazpacho - London   Enjoy, Iggy  ;)

JP: Jean Michel Jarre - "Equinoxe"

For some reason I always want to listen to JMJ when it's springtime and the sun is shining. The first couple of albums are top class. I'm thinking "Oxygene", "Equinoxe" and "Les Chants Magnetiques". After that, there were still some nice albums, but not really any 'gripping' ones. "Zoolook" is funny and innovative, but not 'fantastic', or anything. "Rendez-Vous" and "Revolutions" are 'more of the same'. Side one of "En Attendant Cousteau" is out of character and side two is boring (but excellent background dream music!). "Chronologie" is alright and perhaps the last JMJ album that matters (perhaps "Oxygene 7-13" counts as that, but I haven't listened to that one much.)

NP: Mastodon - "Crack The Skye"
A really nice album. 8)

I plan to, for sure. Why would it be too harsh for me ?

@ Teunis. I had not noticed those lyrics so far. For sure, Martin Orford is not a man of compromises. I know that there are many religious people in the Room so I understand that those kind of lyrics can shock you or make you angry. That is not my case since, to be honest, I tend to share Martin's opinion on that matter but I do respect (and sometimes envy) the true believers.

NP Flying Colors - Flying Colors

Freshly received from Amazon. Not exactly what I was waiting for but nevertheless very interesting. After first listen, I can predict that Shoulda Coulda Woulda will never be a favorite of mine. On the contrary, The Storm, if released in the early 80's, would have gained a lot of radio airplay and we could have watched the video countless times on MTV ...

No problem, as long as everyone accepts each other's opinion. Fortunately no flaming here in The Room ;D.
Little correction though: Steve Thorne wrote and sang the lyrics for this track ;).

It's a pity great bands like this don't get bigger crowds.  I guess it's nice to be one of the few who recognize their genius, but they deserve a better following.   :-\

On another note (I don't know whether these guys get more appreciation or not) -- has anyone else noticed that when one is listening to Riverside, there's a strong argument for them being the best band in the world?  :D  Last night I played a Riverside album, doesn't matter which one because, as usually happens, I ended up playing all of them.   *horns*

Also played: Pendragon - Pure

In this case, I'm in the same boat as Nicky, I think, which scares me.   ;D   This album convinced me when the previous material I'd heard had left me rather cold.  I need to check out "Passion" since apparently they're rockin' now.

It seems to be only Believe among recent albums that's deficient. I heard several real good songs from Not Of This World on YouTube, and I'm planning to get the album soon  ;)

I agree to a certain extent. When I saw Riverside they left me a bit bemused and a bit disappointed. They didn't seem to be as good live as they ought to have been. (It could have been just me though).

I have always thought the definition of a great band is that they are better live than in the studio.

It probably comes from all the Yes gigs that I have been to. They are so different live. What Gazpacho did in some of their songs is create a wall of sound but you could hear all of the different instruments/vocals and that I guess is what I find most enjoyable.

NP March of Ghots by Gazpacho  *horns*

I definitely would recommend Flying Colours - Flying Colours it is not really prog but it is good fun music.
