And K.K. has left Priest, which means that I won't be seing him with the band at Copenhell  :'(

But also a bit'o good news (Wikipedia, Judas Priest): "On January 27, 2011, it was announced that Judas Priest was in the process of writing new material; the band also clarified their plans for the future, saying that '...this is by no means the end of the band. In fact, we are presently writing new material, but we do intend this to be the last major world tour.'"

NP  Nachtmystium:  Assassins  *horns*

These guys don't seem to be in divorce mood  :)

Looks like Tom shares the associations that occurred to me whilst listening to Nachtmystium (Amazon, Assasins):

"What if Pink Floyd made a black metal album?

July 13, 2008

By Tom (real name) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Assassins: Black Meddle Pt 1 (Audio CD)

What if Pink Floyd made a black metal album? Sounds like a ridiculous question, the music of Pink Floyd and black metal have nothing in common. That's what I thought until last week. Boy was I wrong. This is my first exposure to Nachtmystium, and in general, I don't really care for most black metal music. I dislike the basic feel of black metal, it's typically too harsh, and the lyrics are just too ridiculous for me. That's an unfortunate stereotype I guess, and I think that this album is going to be the catalyst to expand my musical interests into the genre a little more.

But as for this album...all I can say is WOW! I bought this after it was announced that they would be opening for Opeth in the fall, and seeing very favorable reviews on several websites. I have lsitened to it at least 8-10 times since last Tuesday.

The album starts out with a mellow, mostly instrumental track (One Of These Nights). Reading the title gave me images of the Pink Floyd track One Of These Days...and after listening to it, you realize that the band definitely had this song in mind when they recorded their version. By no means a cover, but a very distinct influence

The next track, Assassins, is a great catchy song. I find myself repeating the chorus over and over again, and it instantly got added to my metal playlists on my iPod.

The rest of the album ranges in style from electronic, spacy instrumental passages, directly out of the Pink Floyd song book to riffy, heavy, and ultimately very catchy metal. The typical (IMO) black metal vocals are there, but are never felt as harsh or too extreme.

The album ends with three tracks, the Seasick trilogy. The first two parts are instrumental, very mellow and moody, then finished up with the third track, emotional and driving and just really gets you fired up."

Regarding Roy Kahn, I have read that he part ways with Kamelot due to medical reasons.
It seems that the dude doesn't feel okay.
I didn't know about Jeff Loomis/Nevermore, might be a shock to some. Or more.

Didn't know about K.K. either actually.
That surprise me a bit.
Maybe the innitial plan of the Priest was to end the musical life but then four of them decided to write new stuff and that wasn't what K.K. had in mind, so he quits.
Just guessing.

About the Black Meddle album pt I;

Looks interesting, thought black metal. ... head first into youtube then.

Didn't know about K.K. either actually.

Well, I know that Glenn and K.K. have had a härd time together goin wäääy back. It stands to their credit that they stuck together and thus strengthened the sound of Priest  8)

These guys are dead serious about their music. Not many people know that  :-X

As we know, Rob was a bit more flippant, and he went off on his winding ways in the 90's and early 00's. Let's be honest: Not much came of it  :(

He realised that his place was in Priest. So, eventually he returned, and then they made their groundbreaking Angel Of Retribution, and of course, the epic Nostradamus  *horns*

Meantime Ripper had taken over Rob's post, and Priest made the sadly underrated but amazing two albums Jugulator and Demolition, and Glenn released his two formidable and highly spiritual albums (from which my quote is taken) with friends outside of Priest  :)

I know I'm repeating myself, but with you guys  :-X

Btw, Mad, have you gotten into Priest's Nostradamus ?

Remember, you'r a real proggie. That commits  ;)

I'm actually not really all that surprised about Jeff and Warrel splitting. When you listen to Jeff's ZOP, and then to TOC, it appears (to me iac) that Jeff has given up a bit, and left the floor to Warrel. These two guys are very different: Warrel is weird - and I love him for that - while Jeff, yeah, how about: one of the most amazing guitarists this planet has ever borne  *horns*

And about Roy: Well, if it's health reasons, then it's understandable  :)

I havent yet heard Poetry properly, but I hold all their other albums with Roy in very high regard  *horns*

:P So many bad news. I hope at least that DT won't announce that Mike Portnoy is leaving. What ? He did ?

For Kahn, I read somewhere that it could be due to religious commitments.

Apart from that, beware Nicky, it seems that you are dangerousely flirting with AOR territory those last days  :)

The band AOR turned out to be a disappointment to me. OK, I tune down my expectations when listening to "adult oriented rock" bands, but this band was really bland  :(

It's real confusing that AOR stands for both "adult" and "album" oriented rock, cuz these are really two very different kettles of spinach. E.g. there's talk about Nachtmystium's Assassins being album oriented, which I too experience, whilst it's by no means the sorta "adult oriented rock" you'd hear on ordinary radio channels.

NP  Anthrax:  Sound Of White Noise

Not either "adult oriented rock"  ;) *horns*

Even though I haven't been in much of a metallic mood lately, I still find this fantastic.   *horns*

Fact is, I haven't been listening to much music lately until the past few days, which is partly why I've been so quiet.  I'm still around though.  Amazingly enough, I've been listening to a "classic rock" station in my car somewhat, and I find that I've avoided it for so long that I'm actually enjoying some of it again (Led Zep, Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Who).  I'm still ready for some new prog though.
"What is that sound?  It's confusing, and boy is it loud!"

Skyforger is a superb album and a new one is out shortly  *horns*

Yes please do! :) Scar Symmetry's Holographic Universe is (imo) a masterpiece but the last one - I don't even recall its title - was so so... :-\

Pretty good album by the mighty Evergrey. A return to form after the last two albums, and it even features audible keyboards again! :o :P

NP  Avenged Sevenfold:  Nightmare

Man, what a marvellous album  *horns*

I wouldnt say it's transforming - transforming albums imo are Arena's The Visitor and Contagion, DT's albums from Awake on, Priest's albums from Jugulator on, and a few more, albums that really change yer life, I think you know what I mean  ;) - but there's a tremendous variation in styles and moods - keeps ya alert - M. Shadows is a truly gripping singer, and of course Mikey's drummin - man, never a lazy moment, always to the point, and well peppered - and tremendous guitar runs, both single and harmony, everything done tight and tasty.

I think this one could become a Room staple  ;)
