NP  Zucchero & Paul Young: Senza Una Donna

An old classic, that still holds strong, that I listened a lot to back in those days, and that has some real nice ... hm, I won't say more (gonna have Bups all over me  :o ), but also a guitar solo that kicks ass, yeah, and even some coool sax.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiUn8RwpcfY

As woodfit wrote under the YouTube: "Classic ... it's a cliché, but they sure as hell don't have talent like this any more.

X Factor ?? what a crock of SHIT"

True, those were the days when they could make tasty sensual vidoes - mmm  *horns*

Curious, it reminds me of 10cc's I'm Not In Love - another great classic  8)

Maybe I'm just more talkative than you, Tom  :)

I think that's true. Not that you talk too much, it's more that I just don't. I guess I'm somewhat more reserved, introvert than you. :)

QuoteBut that doesnt make me less intelligent  :P

Are you sure? :P

NP: Nevermore - The Obsidian Conspiracy

I have to say, putting this album away for a while was a good move. I'm listening to it now for the first time in months and I actually think that it's pretty good. Even the vocals... :D

That can change. When I was your age, I was very introverted. I felt very much alone with all my stuff  :(

I'm actually still a very private person, like I'm very selective with whom I socialise with, but when I like my company, I can be quite social. Hm, guess that means that I like the Room :)

Yeah, but I wouldnt mind you guys sharin a bit more, like often you mention that you'r listening to somethin interesting, but I miss what you like about it or find interesting ;)

Nevermore are definitely one of the most exciting groups around, and all their albums are great in one way or another, but somehow Obsidian doesnt grip me as much as some of the others  :-\

I remember reading an interview with Jeff Loomis, where he said something along the lines that with Obsidian, he let Warrel take over some more. Well, Warrel is by all means a great singer, but I think that most of what I find exciting with Nevermore is due to Jeff.

NP  Extreme:  III Sides To Every Story

One of my pantheon groups, another one that could merit some more attention in the Room  ;)

So far III Sides is my fave of Extreme  *horns*

Just to make it clear: Extreme has nothing to do with extreme metal. The name comes from "ex-dream", and they'r more bluesy, blended with some Queen influence, and some exquisite guitar by one of the finest guitarists around: Nuno Bettencourt   8)

Jonesy turned me onto this group - missin him  :'(

Mad, how are you with ZH ?

Nicky.

Quite good, actually.

I've kept thinking who it was that recommended the band to me, but I actually think it was you when you were talking about Suspyre and Zero Hour!

From their albums, I like the albums The Towers of Avarice (based upon the silent movie Metropolis) and Specs of Pictures Burnt Beyond best.
They've never been a band that wrote too many long songs (on Towers there is one, called Demise and Vestige [15:47]), so the average amount of time of their songs is about 5 minutes.
Quite a good, yet underrated prog-metal band that can be compared to Suspyre, Dream Theater and Fates Warning but with more power than the latter.
Suprisingly I must say that the singer reminds me of Ronny J. Dio from time to time.

I must admit though that although I do like the band, I hardly ever play an album of them.  :-[

NP> Radiance ~ The Burning Sun

This might be interesting for Nicky and Funkster.
The other usual suspects: Hmm, I don't know, it's quite fushion-ish thrashy math prog metal, maybe the name Cynic could be a good keyword.
With Mats Léven (Amaseffer, ex-Therion) on vox.

Mystery ~ One Among the Living

Neo-prog with a Jon Anderson clone on vox!!!  :o
And JJII on bass (special guest). ;)

The other special (well known) guests are Daryll Steurmer (Genesis live-band) and Oliver Wakeman (doesn't need an introduction).

First spin, but I like it.

Edit:

Funny, I just read that the singer (Benoît David) is more than a Jon Anderson-clone.

He is actually the new singer of ... Yes!

Replacing the former Yes singer...yes, indeed; Jon Anderson!!  :o

The first song is a demo version of Space Oddity with only acoustic guitar and vocals, i.e. without that seductive spacy synth, so that song can be skipped after one listen  :-\

I actually think it was you when you were talking about Suspyre and Zero Hour!

OK, so you were awake  :P

Quite possibly it was my mentioning of Zero Hour. I saw them at Headway, in your capitol, and they simply blew the roof to smithereens. Man, was that a great concert  *horns*

I can imagine that if one hasnt seen them live, they can seem a bit monotonous, but for me, when I play'm on my hifi - loud, of course - I relive this fantastic concert  8)

Suspyre otoh can hardly come from me, as I only know'm vaguely. I played a bit of A Great Divide a while ago, but I simply can't remember what they sound like. Have to get back to them - thanx, Mad .....

Sounds promising: "Suspyre's sound is heavily influenced by a wide variety of musicians and bands, including Dream Theater, Opeth, Symphony X, Igor Stravinsky, Mahler, Mozart and Bach." - Wikipedia, Suspyre

Hey Tom, where are you ? Where are you ? Where are you ? Where are you ? Where are you ? Where are you ? Where are you ? Where are you ? .....

I'm right here!

Last weekend I was having a Lost season 5 and 6 (tv-show) marathon together with my girl, my best friend and his girlfriend so basically all I did since friday-evening was watching tv. But it was worth it, we had a good time and now we finally know how this mindboggling series end. 8)

Then I logged in this morning to see that Mad got mad or bored and posted a helluva (;D) lot over the weekend so it took some time before I caught up with everything. But here I am, one the first day of my two weeks off from work!

Mad, thanks for reminding me about The Shadow Theory. I heard some clips on their MySpace some time ago and really liked what I heard... And then I forgot about them again until you mentioned them! :-\

NP: The Dear Hunter - Act III: Life And Death

This is a band I stumbled across as recently as last week. The Dear Hunter is a progressive rock project originating in Providence, Rhode Island. It began as a side project of Casey Crescenzo, formerly of post-hardcore band The Receiving End of Sirens. The band's sound is not unlike that of Casey's former band, but with more alternative and progressive rock tendencies and a wider variety of instrumentation.

I think there is something in this band to enjoy for everyone in the Room. They are truly unique, I can't think of a band that sounds like The Dear Hunter. I hear a mixture of so many different genres when I listen to this band: Progressive rock/metal, rock, pop, experimental, ambient, jazz, you name it and it's there.

Check out this song if you want a sample of what they sound like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fANJSsFQfi4&feature=related

NP Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing : Live in Germany

2 CD's live album from the Communiqué period. Rather intimate mood, a worthy addition to the more flashy Alchemy. A must-have for the fans  8)
