Bups, I'v actually been thinking about getting an album by SA. I was considering Unia, as I heard that it was supposed to be a bit proggy. But would you recommend Silence instead ?

I tried out a couple of cd's by Children Of Bodom, but gave'm up, as it was too much power metal and not much prog, bit like Dragonforce  :(

I'd like to have some Finnish metal, but till now I havent found anything that really grips me. So I'm putting my stakes on SA  ???

Else I'v been listening to my usual suspects these days: Priest, AIC, PT, City Boy  *horns*

Guess I'm rather non-Roomy with this stuff (with the exception of PT).

Yes, I would pick Silence over Unia anytime. Ecliptica, their debut LP, is good too but it's pretty much the same speed metal all the way through and Tony Kakko's voice is less mature. Plus, I find that there is an epic (but not prog) feeling to some of the songs on Silence, especially The Power Of One. Reckoning Night would be my second choice from the albums I know. I still have to listen to Winterheart's Guild and The Days Of Grays.

But I remember that you told once that you don't like Blind Guardian at all. I only have one live album form Blind Guardian but I find some similarities with Sonata Arctica, so ...  :-X

Looks like I should get both Silence and Unia, as they seem to be quite different. Thanx, Bups  :)

But I remember that you told once that you don't like Blind Guardian at all.

Well, like has different grades and shades.

My fave groups currently are Judas Priest, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Queensrÿche, and Nevermore (going east-west). I enjoy virtually everything that they'v done. Sometimes I spend days just listening to one of these groups.

And then there is a manifold of listening styles, depending on my experience and mood, recommendations, and of course, whom I'm together with.

Some groups have turned me off several times in succession, and those I give up, like Nightwish, Lacuna Coil and Dragonforce. So it takes a lot to get me back to them.

Other groups I can have problems with, like Between The Buried And Me, but I can also hear that they have something special about'm, so I return to'm once in a while.

Blind Guardian I listened to several times a couple of years ago. They didnt do much for me, but since I have several "friends" who like'm, I wanna return to'm.

Same thing with SA:  They havent yet really gripped me, but since several of my friends like'm, I'l try'm out  8)

NP  Communic:  Conspiracy In Mind

Fine group, one that Roomies should go for  ;)

Norwegian melodic metal group, a lot of folksiness, remind me of Wuthering Heights and Pagan's Mind, and Oddleif Stensland is an excellent singer, I prefer him to WH's and PM's. Interesting lyrics too  ;)

Blind Guardian - Live

Still not convinced but maybe their music is too complex or sophisticated for a perfect live rendition ? PLus, I am not a big of Tolkien or heroic fantasy so I guess it doesn't help.

Apart from Nicky, has someone listened to their studio stuff ? Mad, Tom, Funkster, Peter ... ? Some albums seem to get a lot of praise, especially NIME.

Anubis Gate:  Andromeda Unchained

Impressive !  Some of the best Scandinavian melodic metal I'v heard  *horns*

Remind me of Mercenary, Andromeda (  ;D ), and Seventh Wonder.

Mad, you like these guys, dontcha ?  ;)
