One of their live albums, Strangers In The Night, is considered as one of the best hard rock albums of all times.

OK, Bups, you convinced me too:  I have put SITN on my SL, and if I find a UFO album at the library, I'l take it out and give it a some runs  :)

I think this collection of 70's classics fits well into Room taste:

In my opinion you should listen to the whole album.

Too late now, cause I'v delivered the cd at the library. But I'l keep your comments in mind, Mad  :)

Played:

Judas Priest:  Nostradamus

Hardly a day goes without me playing this monumental work, my "fave album currently".

Michael Romeo: The Dark Chapter

A well-known name. This solo album is from 1994. It's not a Zero Order Phase, by far, but it has a lotta melody and nice twists and turns. Unfortunately MR didnt include a real drummer, and I find his drum programming drab. (In contrast, Jeff Loomis had Mark Arrington on drums, a fabulous drummer.)

That's great to hear! I didn't know you liked Foo Fighters and Muse! 8)

Oh yeah, Foo Fighters are amazing.
I've been buying their albums ever since the first album of FF which basically was more intended as a solo album of D. Grohl.

QuoteI have the perfect solution for you: Get iTunes! :P

Absolutely not!

I'll just check in here, so nobody worries we're losing another person.  I haven't been listening to much at home due to my playing Oblivion on the new PC instead, but I've been driving all over the place lately, and my travel rotation is currently this:

Transatlantic - SMPT:e
Anathema - A Natural Disaster
Phideaux - The Great Leap
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
Phideaux - Number Seven
Phideaux - Chupacabras

You may note a pattern there.   ;D

NP  MullMuzzler:  Keep It To Yourself  (on repeat)

An album with a guy who sings some nice ditties  ;)

The record company didnt allow him to use his own name, therefore MullMuzzler:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MullMuzzler

Anyone here heard this album, or MullMuzzler 2 ?

Not surprisingly, lotta melody, harking back to I&W, even some Kevin Moore-ness (so Deenie  ;) ), but also very special touches, not at all regular stuff. You hear the DT-thingy, but Jamie was clever enuff to include some guys who are quite different from his DT-buddies. These are Mike Keneally, Mike Mangini, Matt Guillory, and Bryan Beller, all excellent and interesting musicians  8)

As many others, I initially had problems with his singing on the DT-albums, but KITY has convinced me that Jamie is a very exciting musician !

Batman writes nicely in his Amazon review of Tim Donahue's Madmen And Sinners (my bolds, nb): "James LaBrie sings quite differently from his role in Dream Theater and what's so interesting is that whenever LaBrie takes part in a side project (Frameshift, Ayreon, Mullmuzzler), he has so much to offer. His singing style shifts from dark soothing vocals on "The End" to a really aggressive style on "Master of the Mind" or "Million Miles". You've never heard him sing the way he sings in "My Heart Bleeds" or "Children of the Flame". It's a pity he is severely criticised by most of his own fanbase for not sounding 'harsh' enough, but at least he has got a 100% James LaBrie voice that is instantly recognisable. Instead of sounding like another dated Halford, Dickinson or Kiske clone, he sounds like himself -- the one and only James LaBrie." - http://www.amazon.com/Madmen-Sinners-Tim-Donahue/dp/B000778J6S/ref=pd_sim_m_5

I'v added the two Mullmuzzler albums to my SL  :)

Absolutely recommendable to all DT-fans  ;)

@Nicky:

I have a pro and a con on Mullmuzzler.

When it comes to singing, James sings better on the mellow tracks of DT, so therefore i must say that his singing skills are better on the Mullmuzzler/solo albums then on DT.
But music wise the songs and music on the solo albums tends to be more in the vein of James' first band, Winter Rose.
Not very my cup of tea however very enjoyable from time to time.

I quite like Mullmuzzler I; it's very special, and a real grower. I think that Jamie wanted to create something different from DT, and different from anything else around, and in my mind he succeeded  *horns*

He writes in the liner notes that he worked a long time on it, and I have the impression that the other guys involved took him seriously and put in a lotta effort.

Another + for me is that Ms 007 likes it  :-*

It appears to me that he's especially popular with the ladies, altho it's the men who shout about that he's not "harsh" enuff  :(

NP Gotthard - G.

Swiss hard rock : crafted with care but not very innovative ...

Manatee

I finally got around to playing:

Phideaux - Fiendish

Not bad, but I don't think it's as innovative and exciting as some of the later stuff, especially Doomsday Afternoon.  Of course, a few more plays might change my opinion.

It'll probably be at least a few more days until I do much listening to music on my computer due to transfer/dying old computer/laziness issues.  Perhaps I should move some more of my new stuff into the car since that where I've been playing the most music lately.  Notably, I haven't really given the new Devin Townsend enough plays to form a valid opinion, and I still have one old Phideaux album that I haven't played at all yet.

Surprisingly enough, not very much like Fates Warning, despite the presence of Jim Matheos.
In fact and i think that has something to do with the cooperation with Mike Portnoy, it reminds me of Dream Theater.
It's not an album though, at least not in the way it should be.
There are only two songs on this EP, Relentless (length 12:25) and Cheyenne (length 15:36).

Two outstanding songs of mr. Arch but i must admit that i sometimes have troubles with his singing. It's very high. Don't know if that's the right description.
Somehow it's a shame that we don't hear that much of him, because this EP is really good.
But on the other hand it must been said that Ray Alder, as you undoubtedly know is the current singer of Fates Warning, is quite better. More technique.

I can't imagine an album like A Pleasant Shade Of Grey would be better with John Arch on vox.

No.  Sometimes I really enjoy listening to Phideaux, and sometimes I really really enjoy listening to Phideaux.  Then again, despite my fanaticism, it's all still relatively new to me, so I may get my fill eventually.  ...but not yet.

The one before the debut.  Supposedly much of this material came from an earlier project of his.  This one's pretty nifty in any case.

John Bonham's son did something with pretty much everybody ... including of course an excellent album as a drummer for UFO  ;)
