NP Apollo 18 - TMBG.

These guys always cheer me up.  :)

It's hard to be down with a birdhouse in your soul.   ;)

NP: Abigail's Ghost - Selling Insincerity

On a faux-related note, I got my brother to download the live version of Signify yesterday.  He belongs to some sort of download club that gives him 30 songs per month for 40 cents each.  Sadly, they didn't have any of the truly awesome PT albums beginning with In Absentia.

I believe in this case, Mr. Obama went to the U.N.

Picking up a copy of 'Voices in My Head' on the way, no doubt ;)

I would have gladly had Amazon send him a copy with my compliments if it meant not having to spend several weeks to drive 8 blocks.   :P

They saved the best song on Selling Insincerity for the last.  I suspect I may like the newer album better -- it's supposed to have more serious guitarage  *horns*

NP: AC/DC - The Razor's Edge

I rarely get past Thunderstruck, but the guitar on that song is really cool.

But what do you think about Selling Insincerity as a whole? You don't sound very convinced... :'(

I didn't dislike it, and I definitely liked a few songs, particularly Mother May I?  I've only heard it once, so it may well be a grower.  I heard 8 songs on MySpace, and I suspect I might like some of the harder rocking songs on the other album more.  No need to panic.  It took me quite a while to fully appreciate Porcupine Tree, and now I think they're genius.

I agree.  I played part of it again, and Cerulean Blue is now standing out to me as well.  Once again, it appears Tom will be saved from autodefenestration.   ;D

I took Iggy at his word and played all the way through Selling Insincerity again turned up very loud.  That did the trick.   *horns*

I must admit I was somewhat distracted while listening to The Incident the first time through, but I liked the sound of it.  Happily, a reviewer who claimed they had gone back to the spacey, less hard-rocking style of their early albums appears to be full of shite.  While I've never heard a *bad* PT album, I've found that some of the early ones have things that can (maybe even should) be skipped, while the newer ones are strong throughout.   *horns*

Always.  Night and Tick Tock just boggle my mind they're so good.  The copies I burned to CD  have taken up permanent residence in my car's CD player.  I'm sorely tempted to try an earlier Gazpacho album, but it's pretty much a certainty I won't like it as much based on everything I've heard and read.  Question is, will it still be good enough that I won't be disappointed since I already expect that?

NP: Devin Townsend Project - Ki

I've come around to thinking this does indeed match the quality of his other offerings.  However, as I've said, his prospects for really releasing 4 of these in 2009 look grim.  Personally, if he gives us one quality one per year for four years, I'll be satisfied.

And even if he did manage to release them, chances are the US release dates would spill over into 2010 ;D

Even worse, so would the Canadian date since I think North America gets abused as a unit in this regard.  That of course being absurd since Hevy Devy is from up there.

NP: Marillion - Happiness is the Road - Volume 2, The Hard Biscuit

I may need to apply the Iggy principle to these albums.  They don't sound bad, but I'm not really getting much of it yet.  On the other hand, Marbles is fully established as a top-shelf recording now.   *horns*

Funny, I just made reference to them on the game thread.

NP: Marillion - Marbles

1. Really loving this album now.  2.  Thank goodness I listened to the Recent Shunner of Biscuits and got the Rackett version because Ocean Cloud is indeed the best song on the album.  I particularly like the passage where the guitar suddenly gets loud and weird, which happens to be on as I type this.  I just noticed it leads into a few seconds that sound like they could be on The Wall.

Yes, one of the epicest epics of all time.  Just my pint of seawater :)
