Well, I'll say this: the boys truly do play their asses off.  I still think LaBrie can't sing as well as, for instance, me.  On some of the songs, that's not a big deal cause they cleverly only let him sing for about 2 minutes out of 16 or so.  Count of Tuscany is a great song, but I already knew that since it's what made me decide to take a chance on this.  Overall, I think I like it, although some of my reservations remain.  I am very impressed with the musicianship though.  Not surprising since I always knew they were talented that way.  The covers are fun, and ironically, even though I'm on a King Crimson kick lately, it's the first I've heard of Larks Tongues.  I have the instrumental disc on now, and, unsurprisingly, I like it since it removes the one thing I really didn't like about the band (unless you count the fact that Portnoy acts like he's from Long Island, which I guess is cause he is   ;D).  Oh, and the alternate album cover on Amazon (possibly for a CD single for Nightmare to Remember?) with the raven is really really cool.   *horns*

NP: It Bites - The Tall Ships

The latest experiment in whether John Mitchell really can do no wrong.  He really should pop in on the board here now and then.  After all, how often does an (undeservedly) obscure prog rocker get fanboys older than himself?

Note on DT (Devinless variety) - despite the fact that it was kind of a joke between Nicky and me, I think I might really like the instrumental album better than the main one.  Admittedly, I've only been once through most of the songs, but thus far I'd say Count of Tuscany is the only song, where I think the vocals add something positive.

I do hope that's a reference to the long stretches of Dream Theater songs that are strictly instrumental and not to some failure on my part to hear those around me.  Also, he'd better be using state of the art ear protection, or he'd be completely deaf after a few gigs with those guys.   ::)

NP: IQ - Dark Matter

P.S.  If I'd known manatees got this little sleep, I would've called myself "Bear" instead.
