I certainly share you guys' enthusiasm for this band. They have a sure sense of melody, and are very original and varied  *horns*

Problem is I still havent found any of their albums in Cop  >:(

Searching for good prog in Cop is like looking for intelligence in a blonde ... except that Ms 007 is blond - hm  ???

;D

Nicky.

Actual CDs of Night and Tick Tock (their two most recent and consensus best albums) are extremely hard to find.  Supposedly Racket Records had them for sale for a while, but then they stopped (ran out?).  These were the first two albums I ever bought as Amazon downloads.  I would've liked to have had the cover art and info, but the music is must-have in any case IMO.  Also, if you buy the DL (which typically is also less expensive than the disc version), you're allowed to burn them to CD for personal use.  I guess you need a credit card to do Amazon though?  I think it may be a bit easier to get some of the earlier albums on CD, but I haven't heard them, and from what I hear, they're not as good as the last two.  I think it was Tom who said Bravo was good although not up there with Night and  TickTock.  I may give it a try if I can find it since the last two are so good that even a step down from them may be well worth having.

If ever stuck without working plastic, a good way around it is to give some cash to anyone you know who isn't in such a position.  Then get them to send you an Amazon gift certificate to that value.  Job done 8)

Good idea.  Not a problem for me, but I believe it might be for our shy and retiring friend from Denmark.  ;)

Strange.  Two different prices and no indication what the difference is.  It also said "pre-order," which is odd.  Budgets being tight lately, I don't think I'll buy a CD copy when I've already got them Amazon DLed and burned my personal copies.  Note: mistake to watch out for when burning Night and Tick Tock - don't choose an option that leaves space between songs.  They're clearly intended to flow directly into each other.  I burned them with the 2 sec waits, and it's noticeably annoying -- I plan to reburn without the gaps.

Anyway, thanks Mad.  Maybe Nicky can make use of that.

I really really like Volte-Face.   *horns*

You know what's really annoying?  When a piece of code you're testing does absolutely nothing.  >:(

That sounds like the best code to me. If it does something it is likely to go wrong.  :P

While that's certainly true, if nothing goes wrong, there are no clues as to what to fix, and since I didn't intend for the code to do nothing, there must be something that needs fixing.   :-\

I'm playing this too but for the first time.

I find the guitars in Time Flies very reminiscent of the guitars in Animals

Yes indeed, I think that track is exceptionally well put together.  The acoustic strumming at the start clearly tips it's hat in the direction of Animals, then the electric that's layered on is a distinctly gritty PT trademark.  Then there's another burst of Floyd-esque guitar after the "And laughing under summer showers, Is still the way I see you now" lyric.  And other bits, like the wailing solo around 7 minutes in.  Awesome.

Having now played the album four times I'm starting to understand what makes it tick, it's looking very promising indeed *horns*

I just read this in an interview with Steven Wilson:

"Time Flies is supposed to be about me, my childhood, what formed me and also what formed me as a musician. The musical references in it relate more to the music I grew up with. So you hear a very deliberate reference to Pink Floyd for example. The first album I ever bought was Animals. There's a riff in there that's very similar, just different enough to not get sued. There are also musical clues as well as lyrical clues to me growing up and to what created me as a musician, what created me as a person."

Good observation guys! 8)

If the Pink Floyd boys know much about Steven Wilson, I'd think they'd be flattered rather than want to sue, particularly since he openly acknowledges them.

I imagine Racket Records will be getting another order from me soon.  It appears I now "get" h-Marillion.   *horns*
