Touching video:

Iced Earth:  When The Eagle Cries

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o6xrSyhVhc

With the great Tim Ripper Owens.

One'o my pantheon groups  *horns*

Wiki, The Glorious Burden:  "The Glorious Burden is the seventh studio album by the American heavy metal band Iced Earth. It is a concept album, which explores various moments in American military history, such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolutionary War, and American Civil War. It also pays tribute to world events such as World War I, the World Trade Center attacks and the ravages of Attila the Hun.

This album features the debut of lead singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens, formerly of Judas Priest. The album was first recorded with Matt Barlow on vocals, but band leader Jon Schaffer was not satisfied with his performance. Due to the events of September 11th, Barlow became more interested in law enforcement than the music business, and according to Schaffer, 'Matt's heart was not in it and it showed in his performance.' As a result, Matt left the band and the album was shelved until a new vocalist could be found. However, some of Barlow's initial recordings remain on the record as backing vocals, and he is credited with co-writing two songs.

Tim Owens, who at that time was still in Judas Priest, was asked to do the vocals as a side project. However, he joined the band full time after Judas Priest reunited with Rob Halford."

I'v been tryin to find Mercy Falls in record shops in Cop, but havent found it yet. And that darn Uncle Rocky still hasnt turned up.  :(

I can hear that it's at least as good as the first two SW-albums, and that's sayin a looot !

And Tommy has more power in his voice. He sounds very comfortable with the band now.

Have to say that I liked the singer on the first album, Andi Kravljaca, a lot too  8)

I know that Mad likes Mercy Falls. Anyone else  ;)

Guys, give this band your support:

1) They merit it !
2) They deserve it !
3) They need it !

My belief is that cyclists don't have an unusually high rate of performance enhancing drug use compared to most other sports so much as it's tested almost to a fault in that sport, whereas it's checked now and then at best in most other sports.

Hmm, maybe you're right but it's the only sport where athlets themselves used to tell that drug use is a normal thing.

I, for now, still watch the TdF from time to time (mainly on climbing days) but have zero illusion about the "truth" of the performances  >:(

Do you remember Richard Virenque, a French famous climber who was convicted of drug use and sent off the TdF with all his team ... before coming back a few years later and winning a few "best climber" trophees ? If you do, enjoy this  ;D : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMaa9Ui8JS4

It's great! My only minor complaint after 3 listens is that the vocals are a bit too 'dramatic' at times. For example at the end of the first track. I can't really stand them (yet) to be honest but maybe it's just that I need to get used to them a bit more. I do like the somewhat heavier direction the band seems to have taken very much. It makes the music that little bit more intense. Also, the female vocals in Midnight Sun are heart-wrenching. I'm actually listening to that song right now and it gives me chills. All in all this album has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to listening to this album over and over again in the coming days/weeks/months. *horns*

Sorry Nicky, but Jeff Loomis' album has to wait just a little bit longer... ;)

As long as you get around to it eventually, Tom. ZOP is a bomb - for ardent proggies, too great to miss  ;) *horns*

NP  DT:  Black Clouds

Another bomb - just as good as ZOP  *horns*

These two albums have really been good company for me lately. I'v played a lot of other stuff too, but when I really need a lift, these two are the ones I put on my player  8)   (not simultaneously tho  :P )

Gettin into the Black Clouds' lyrics now. I'l jot down some notes at a point - but maybe I'l be pre-empted ?  ;)

Just:   Lisa Gerrard and Pieter Bourke:  Duality

If I'd have to conjecture what the sirens sounded like who tried to lure Odysseus, I'd say Lisa Gerrard's singing. Fabulous  *horns*

This album is very uneven, but when good, it's like the sorta vacation Greenie's been dreamin about  ;)

Anyone into these guys ?

Wiki, Duality (album):  "The beginning of the song Shadow Magnet will sound familiar to many because it influenced, in part, the music at the beginning of the Gladiator soundtrack (music by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard). The track Nadir (Synchronicity) was initially intended for use at the end of that film, however due to problems with copyright, a song 'influenced' by this track was used instead.

Tempest and Sacrifice were used for the Insider soundtrack."

Wiki, Lisa Gerrard:  "Lisa Gerrard is considered a contralto vocalist. Her vocals have been variously described as rich, jaw-dropping, unique, deep, dark and mournful. Her range spans from contralto to mezzo-soprano on such songs as The Host Of Seraphim, Elegy, and Space Weaver. On other songs like Sanvean and Sacrifice, Gerrard performs in the deep contralto range.

Like multi-instrumentalist Stephan Micus, Gerrard sings many songs in a language of her own invention that she has developed since age twelve. She thinks of it as speaking to God."

I agree. It's a very good album indeed.
Can't really say if the vocals are too dramatic or not.
Funny thing is, the beginning of Force Of Gravity (the song) reminded me of ... Dream Theater.  :D

I personally think it's way better than Presets. That one was a slight disappointment for me.  :-\
