Talking about well thought thru and composed music:

NP  Sieges Even:  Paramount

German perfectionism combined with a helluva lotta genius  *horns*

And Arno is a great singer. He sure commands English. One of the absolute best non-English singers  *horns*

Wonder what he and Markus will dish up in SubSignal.

"SubSignal, the new band of former Sieges Even members Arno Menses (vocals) and Markus Steffen (guitars), have signed a worldwide record deal with GoldenCore Records/ ZYX Music! The first result of the new collaboration will be SubSignal's first album entitled Beautiful & Monstrous, which is set for a tentative release in late September 2009. The CD will be recorded during May under the direction of co-producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner, who is known for his work on Sieges Even's 2007 release Paramount. The album will have an approximate playing time of 60 minutes. The first edition comes with a stylish digipack cover and one bonus track. SubSignal define their music as progressive, melancholic, cutting-edge, emotional, blended with a good portion of melodic heaviness. The band will celebrate their live premiere at the famous Night Of The Prog Festival, to be held on July 11 at the Loreley, Germany. A full tour is planned for Autumn/Winter 2009/10." - subsignalband.blogspot.com/2009/04/subsignal-sign-with-goldencore-records_22.html

The jury's still out on this one.  It's certainly not bad, but I don't think it's destined to be one of my favorites.

Last week i listened to it a lot and i must say that although it's not a classic, it isn't bad either.
Songs like Ryker Skies, The Province, Stronger Than Fiction really stand out.
I do like it more then i did in the beginning though.

I actually like it far better than Dark Matter and maybe it'll even surpass The Seventh House as my favourite IQ-album. I really like it a lot!

Oh well, opinions... :D

at least it didn't take 30 years to play.

NP Darktown - Steve Hackett.

A very peculiar album imo I have listened to it several times but am still not sure about it.

I really like the Golden age of steam though.

I need to get more solo Hackett.  The good news, sort of, is that I never got around to buying more than one or two of them on vinyl, so I can pick most of them up on CD without feeling like I'm double paying.

NP: King Crimson - Red

This could lead to an expensive bout of King Crimson purchases.  I find this album mostly fantastic, although 'Providence' still sounds like they left the studio with their instruments still plugged in, and someone let a bunch of hamsters run around on top of them.  Some good guitar/bass does creep in there in the second half, but a good bit of it (like -- and I know this is heresy -- a couple of the instrumental parts in the second half of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) could have been dispensed with without being missed.  Come to think of it, I'm halfway contradicting something I just said in Nicky's thread -- that Genesis does almost no noodling.  I think what I just mentioned is what makes it "almost" rather than "none at all."

Good album, crummy title.  I guess it could be worse.  He could have called it "Supertramp."   ;D

Who cares about album titles, as long as the music is good (and it is on that album) I don't see a problem...

I've always enjoyed names and the process of naming things, but of course you're right as far as the music goes.  I *do* like Supertramp even though I think their name is pathetic.  Mostly my comment was just random banter cause that's what Roomies do!   ;D
