earlier today a bit of Devin T and Royal Hunt.

Hey, I discovered Royal Hunt a few days ago! Stunning! I think it was the album Paradox, with DC Cooper.
Man, that boy can sing! 8) Great music! And of course it reminded me a few times of Amaran's Plight. :D

At the moment, I'm listening to nothing... :(
Almost finished doing schoolwork... After monday I have more than a month to listen to all kinds of music non-stop!! ;D ;D ;D

Truly a stunning track.  *horns* *horns* *horns*

dream theater-Peruvian Skies. The 1st time I saw DT was 12/02/1992 and they were playing in a bar in Jax called Shades(which is no longer)The place held 200 max and I had never heard of them before. They blew me away. James was singing, and Kevin was on the keys. Portnoy was just incredible. People just stood and stared. The band was 5 years ahead of their time for Jax folk. Actually the "Bold New City of the South" has never caught on. No offense to any fellow Jacksonville people, which I am sure are not here on this forum.

Aswas, I like you man! ;D *horns* Keep doing these sort of posts! It's very interesting! :)
People should tell more anecdotes about what they're playing, music is an experience.
You're very passionate about music Aswas, I like that.

And what's your take on recent Dream Theater albums?

Now playing: Nothing yet... :D Just starting up WinAmp! ;)

Jordan really added alot to DT when he joined in 2000. Musically John and Jordan really click. They feed on each other. You can hear it and see it in the live concerts and dvds. Portnoy feeds them all. Train of Thought was pretty dark, but had some excellent tracks. Octavarium the title is a great epic. I had to get used to Portnoy chiming in more on Chaos. But that is what makes prog. It is a challenge, there is alot going on. You just can't sink your teeth in every song immediately. I listen, learn, and adapt to the changes. Nine times of ten, it comes up a winner. Pound for pound, as a unit, they are one of the most musically proficient, and talented bands to date. Chord patterns, changes, drum patterns. Sorry for the long response.

Hi Aswas it's good to have new members.

I see you are a Rick Wakeman fan  *horns* excellent.

Just played: King Crimson - Islands

I know, should really listen to DT Black Clouds/Silver Linings that is waiting for me, but early Sunday morning I wasn't in the mood for it and needed something more mellow ;)

You're right about Octavarium Bupie, the first six songs are a nice series of concise songs, especially like These Walls. Acually, the title track still hasn't fully clicked with me yet, need to revisit that one more.

Sorry for the long response.

If we made that a habit, I'd have to say it several times a day (like in this post)  ;)

Nice post, Aswas, thanks.

Glad to see that you're also a DT-fan and -cognosciente  :)

So, what do we do with Greenie  ;D

My guess is that Portnoy's playing reminds him of boat propellers. Let's tell him that it's exorcism of boat propellers, maybe that'l convert'm  :D

NP  DT:  Scenes  (on repeat, second run)

Yup, great stuff. I like the story too - theosophy put to dramatic music. All the guys are in top shape  *horns*

Bups, I understand what you mean with "excessive noodling". Question is whether it isnt after all part of the drama .....  ???

Sounds like when Zep played first time in Cop - 1969, shortly after Page and Plant met - at the Radio House in Copenhagen  *horns*

Percy was still a teen then, if I recall correctly  :)

I have the concert on dvd. One can get it at Amazon. A stunner !!!

Long live Modis !  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fa/Jacksonville_Skyline_Panorama_5.jpg

"Downtown Jacksonville has a memorable skyline with the tallest building being the Bank of America Tower, constructed in 1990 as the Barnett Bank Center. It has a height of 617 ft (188 m) and includes 42 floors. Other notable structures include the 37-story Modis Building (once, with its distinctive flared base, the defining building in the Jacksonville skyline), originally built in 1972-74 by the Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, and the 28 floor Riverplace Tower which, when completed in 1967, was the tallest precast, post-tensioned concrete structure in the world." - Wikipedia, Jacksonville

As PH mentioned I came across him in Amaran's Plight. Then again with Edenbridge. He is also in Silent Force who are currently on my Spotify which is a very impressive application/music repository as long as you don't like popular prog  ::).

No Pink Floyd, no Yes, no Iq, no Arena but loads of Ayreon and a fair bit of PFM which I will probably listen to next.

NP  Scenes  (on repeat, third run)

Yup, growing for sure  *horns*

There's a passage where, in the background, there's a woman who, in my mind (not necessarily objective), is having an orgasm. (I won't tell you guys where it is - but I'm sure all roomies will soon be tuning in to Scenes.)  :P ;D

Probably that's what she had, in the story, with Julian, shortly before she was making similar sounds in her death throes. This sounds harsh, but guys, this album is harsh. As a proggie, one has to get used to this sorta stuff, or leave (man, Nicky, you really are harsh today, but isnt that so, guys ?).

Interesting juxtaposition  8)

What's also interesting about this album is that it isnt clear whether Nicholas was Victoria or the killer and suicider. At least, I havent figured it yet. Any'o you guys who have (references please) ?

If I go insane, senile, Alzheimer, or sumthin like that, promise me, guys, to put me in an asylum where they play DT the whole day löng, so I can be aligned with my condition  ;D

Good to see you're really getting into Scenes, Nicky! And now you've found a good reason to revisit it! ::) (and gave me one too ;) )
I haven't completely figured out the story line either, something I want to do some internet searching about.

A candidate for my favorite Arena song.  I was always a little puzzled why folks didn't rave about this one more.

NP: Martin Orford - Classical Music and Popular Songs

I've decided I really don't care for the title of this one (although the music is fine).  I'm thinking of editing it in iTunes to have some more appropriate name, like Ki or Tick-Tock.   ::)

Well, I haven't found a better place to do it, so welcome aswas, from me as well.  Always good to see a new member who's not an ad for male enhancement (we get the occasional spam-bot).  Since you're on this side of the pond too, I'll have to get you a set of keys to close up the room at night if you're here last.  One in a while I might make utterly ridiculous claims about what we do over here just to confuse the silly Europeans.  If I give you the Secret American Handshake (TM), just nod and play along, ok?    ;D

That one you guys put out about George W Bush actually being the president was a classic.  There are still some folk over here who believe it! ;)
