Title: Reading Saturday 12 April
Post by: Jon Risby on Sun, 2008-04-13, 12:07:53
What a storming gig last night.  Great venue and the band were in top form.  Thoroughly enjoyed the gig - I'm sure there was a big smile on my face from beginning to end.  And thanks for the hat, Rob - my wife wore it with prode all the way home to East Kent!

Anyone out there want to put up the set list?

Great to see some new 'faces' in the Room after these concerts.  *horns*

Good that you two had fun over there, Jon.

Oh and welcome to the Room.  ;)

Does anyone know where I can find Pictures taken at the concert (if anywhere)?

Have to agree, it was a fantastic performance by the band. There were many highlights but "Moviedrome" was sensational, a 20 minute epic which held me spellbound and had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up ! This gig marked the last live performance of Solomon for a while, although I can understand why the boys want to give it a rest, it is a really amazing song (especially how they played it last night) - I hope it will be played again someday.

The audience obviously enjoyed  the gig, but the band seemed to be having a ball too, Rob mentioned that they had been nervous about playing at Reading but they seemed really relaxed once on stage.

The venue was excellent and looked to me to be almost sold-out, would be great if Arena go back there sometime - maybe next time Clive can have a blast on the pipe-organ  :)

Cheers CD

ps. I didn't write down the setlist, but I think it was the same as was posted for the Paris gig.

Oddly I thought the gig lacked a certain something compared to previous Arena gigs I've been to...

The band were top notch and truly excellent (John especially), but for the first half the atmosphere was lacking, the venue was good, so it must have been the crowd (and I include myself).

The whole sitting down thing made it seem very strange to my mind and I felt somewhat detached from the whole experience until they played The Edge of Despair. By the end it was great, but the first half felt a bit flat (though again I stress not the band). Suggestion for the future - NO CHAIRS, it's not a bloody classical recital!! (I did wonder how hard it must be for such talented musicians to play music with such feeling in front of a sitting audience).

What was pleasing to see was a full (or nearly full) venue for a bad who deserve wider recognition, less pleasing the lack of a tour t-shirt!  >: ( I did pick up the Caamora boxed set though which is pretty damned good and if you haven't got it is worth treating yourself to!)

It was a fab gig and the band were in top form - especially John & Rob. I thought it was a lovely venue, but agree that there didn't seem to be much atmosphere. I think the sitting down thing just killed the vibe. I was hoping Rob would demand we got to our feet much sooner!

Only my second Arena gig & its left me wanting to see many more.

Looking forward to Mick's Script this week at Riffs

Brilliant gig! Brought the whole family (inc. son (16) & daughter (14)) - all thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done & thanks to all. It just got better & better. I agree with other comments re: the seating muting the atmosphere a bit (although I was quite grateful of a seat as i was suffering from a cold!). The atmosphere during the last 2 tracks was electric & the band visibly responded to it. The venue was good although if we had been standing it would have looked emptier. I saw the band at the Boardwalk last year and although it was a great gig (my first Arena) I thought Reading was better although difficult to say why. Look forward to next gig - hopefully a bit closer to home (Brum) - hint hint.

I have absoloutley no idea if they're gonna play it, but I don't think Clive would be able to resist LOL.

I will be taking my camera and I'll definatley share the pics on here!!  8)

Right, just managed to copy those photos from my phone, and for the public enjoyment of all on the forum, here are the wonderful... low quality, blurry photos taken on Saturday 12th April 2008 at Reading Concert Hall where Arena played a spectacular gig (and I got to meet Clive in the bar pre-gig!!!! Top bloke!)

On another note, I promised some Arena photos from the Reading gig.....

:-[

My digital camera was dead on the morning of the gig, and I was leaving the house for Reading at 11.30... woken up by my cat at about 10am, got showered and stuff. About 10 mins before going to the train station, went and checked on the damn thing and it hadnt been charged. Oh well, I managed to take photos on my phone....... which I havent managed to even get off my phone and onto my computer. This I will try right now.

Just for the record, I too thought it was an excellent show, and the guys played a great set of songs. I would have posted sooner, but I've been busy sorting out the photos I took at the show.

Unfortunately my digicam had a fault where it wouldn't zoom in and out. So, all my photos were stage shots taken at 7megapixels so that I could crop the photos into closeups for better results.

These photos will be displayed shortly. :)
