Anyone else love this classic Iron Maiden album? I remember that they got slated for the use of synths on it, but for me its a brilliant ( and dare i say it ) prog-metal album. I have always had an affection for Maiden anyway, but this album was the pinnacle.

sorry to disappoint you, but Maiden is really not my style. In general I don't like bands/lyrics that trifle with 'devil issues'.

I think that on closer inspection you will find that Maiden do not trifle with devil issues. Ok "The number of the beast" went down that road, but in the main you will find that Steve Harris ( Maiden bassist and chief songwriter ) is searching for the truth of why we are on this mortal coil and where we are headed to. but heyyy this is all a matter of opinion and thank you for sharing yours. :)

Hi again Peter. Indeed "Brave new world" is a solid Maiden album. Give "Dreams Of mirrors" a listen if you have it. It kinda sums up where Steve Harris is at.

Mr Harris does seem to have a dream/deja-vu/reincarnation thing going. As a christian i don't agree with some of his lyrics, but boy is that man searching.
Harris trivia - did you know that Harris was heavily influenced by the earlier "Wishbone Ash" albums and that one of his favourite songs is "Suppers Ready" ............And no i am not Steve Harris. ;) ;D

I was reading a review of Maiden's "Dance of Death" album and came across a reference to the drummer being a "conservative Christian," and how that came out in some of the lyrics of one song.
I'm not a big Maiden follower, but it seems like that band got unfairly tagged with the Satanic label.
I may be wrong (it happens ;D ) but I seem to remember it was the "Somewhere in Time" album which got slated for the use of synths whereas "7th Son" was regarded as something of a return to form. Whatever, I've enjoyed all Maiden's output and hope they carry on well into the next decade and beyond.
The "Early Days" DVD really spells it out for anyone wanting an Iron Maiden history lesson.

To me he is actually the only link I see between Maiden and Prog, he could easily convince me on a prog stage.
Hogweed, you should try Dickinson's "Chemical Wedding" or "Accident of Birth", you might get into it, too.
And really Guys, "trifling with Devil issues". I thought, we are over this stupid 80's where people who have never listened to a single Metal album simply labelled every Band as satanic.
They were all shitfaced on stage, drugged as hell and many other things, but satanic ? Maybe only a few but Maiden definitely not.

Yeaaa i love "Accident of birth" and " The chemical wedding" great stuff. Bruce was at the peak of his powers on those two albums. I saw Bruce supporting Lynnrd Skynnrd in 1997 and in my opinion, the sheer depth and emotion of his material ( It was the "Accident of birth" tour ) blew the skyns away on this particular night.
Guess once I got my fill of Priest for a while, I should turn to Maiden. Never properly delved into'm .....
However, I think I know'm well enuff to be assured that they'r not "satanic" in any way.
I think more like Goethe's Faust, Cap, that if you want
knowledge, i.e. to be progressive, ya gotta strike some deals with mundane powers :-\
Honestly, I don't think that any of the groups we listen to regularly in the Room are satanic :)
