Title: Christmas Album?
Post by: kmorse on Thu, 2005-11-24, 17:57:21
What would an Arena Christmas album consist of?

Maybe one selection could be

"Guide me to the Mistletoeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

Okay, it's Turkey Day here in the States and I had some time to kill.

Oh, please, no Christmas album :-X Although I believe Arena could do something very special. it's just something I can't connect with progmusic... But maybe I'm wrong...

(BTW, overall... I hate christmas songs... Specially when you are hearing them before Sinterklaas (http://shattered-room.net/index.php?topic=494.msg9839#msg9839)...)

Have you ever heard Jethro Tull's Christmas album? It's not too bad. It might be more aimed at the market in America, where we've just made a complete hash of Christmas. Today is the day we call "Black Friday" because many people have the day off and they start their shopping. And now some of the big retailers are staying open the day before, which is a national holiday, to get a jump on Black Friday. I don't go near the stores this weekend except to buy groceries.

Zwarte Piet is a rip-off from an old Norse mytholgie thingy, which the katholics used to give base to Saint Nicholas (Same as putting the christmas event in place of the shortest day celebration and thus cutting of heathen festivals. But we are getting waaaay offtopic here)

There, that's the spirit. On the other side of the holiday thing, it's no secret that Arena's lyrics touch on religious topics, too. Clive could have a field day with this.

Do me a lemon!  A christmas album??

Right.

Arena are a rock band, yeah?
<Yes, KBM, they are!>
Good.  Now realize that making a christmas album will make our beloved Arena look like some shite boy band!

I just know the guys wouldn't do it! 8)

with sounds of a pinball machine in the background going, ' bing bing bing bing , tilt! tilt!'

Mmm... a Christmas album? So many possibilities... maybe just some small changes and we already have the material...?

From Songs, perhaps..... 'Valley of Three Kings'

Or from the Visitor.....'Pins and Pine Needles'
Come to that we could lighten up the tree theme for 'The Christmas Tree'

Of course From Immortal we could keep the snow and Ice image by changing the first track to 'Frozen'

Just a few thoughts.... A handfull of sleigh bells should do the rest... ;)

An Immortal? Christmas

Song List:

"Frozen"
"Waiting for the Sled"
"The Flutterby Man (a song about Santa)"
"Ghost (of Christmas Past) in the Firewall"
"Climbing the Chimney"
"The Santadrome"

I'm stuck on the last one. I need help. Maybe I need help on these others, too!

There has to be a song about John's bicycle in there somewhere, too. Maybe "Climbing the Net" should become "Riding my Bike"

No for that we will use riding the tide. In that case we don't have to worry about the lyrics :P

Sung to the tune of "Solomon."

With apologies to Clive .... :-\

In the distance
Barely in sight - patiently
flying t'ward me
All red and white - dressed up so fine
It's Kris Kringel,
Santa, St. Nick - just take your pick
Driving reindeer, through the night clear
Were you good or bad - even a tad?
Now is the time to decide ...

Generally Christmas-themed songs make me cringe!  Too many Last Chrismases, Merry Christmases, Blue Christmases, Rocking round the Christmas trees, Driving home ... etc ... just add nauseam, three egg noggs, two drunken proggers and an alarm call to the fire brigade (Xanxa's burned the turkey!)  :D

But these re-writes of Arena lyrics are truly grinspirational!  Keep 'em coming!  8)

I know you'd write something for the occasion, Clive.

ARGH!!
What am I saying??

No. Too many christmas songs in the world.

Matt, come on... it's christmas!  **Pleeease?**

...

*With a cherry on top?*

......ok.  *Yay!*

But, if you do, write a new song.  And if you must cover a song do something like Greg Lake's - "I Believe In Father Christmas".

So is the '10 Years On' album considered as the Christmas album, or should we stil bug Clive to write a True Trans-Siberian Orchestra-ish christmas album? :)
