Simple question, hopefully also a simple answer. ;)
What was the first song you've played in 2009?
Any song, doesn't matter what genre.
Mine was: Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence. And with that i mean the Score version.
After that, that would be the second song ;), i've played Octavarium, also from Score.
Now, show me yours....eh...
:-[ ;D
Alright then! ;D
The first song I played was "This Train Is My Life" by Marillion.
The second was "Shadowplay" by Edenbridge.
There's your simple answer.

OK, my first song, in fact just a moment ago, was Scar Symmetry's Deviate From The Form, the last song on Pitch Black Progress.
The second song was The Illusionist, the first on PBP.
Two supertracks *horns*
I'v had PBP lying on my computer table for over a week now, and I just start it without thinking about it - and that doesnt look like it's gonna change for a while 8)
Guys, this is some sob of an album ;)

Angra Rebirth 1st 2 tracks
I havent played anything yet but i have to travel later so will have my mp3 player with me. I quite fancy some Pink Floyd!
Yesterday I didn't find time to play music due to family visits ;). Played some music from bands that sent a friendship request on MySpace, not really exciting. Now playing my first album. What is better than to start the year with some Arena?
Pepper's Ghost it is, Bedlam Fayre *horns*.
My first song of 2009 was Scorpions' instrumental Coast to Coast. And then I played Wishbone Ash's Argus for the first time since I received it on the last day of 2008.
As you can figure, I am still in my 70's trip ...
First song of 2009 would have been, This Is England - It Bites.

Good pick from a very good album that needs some spins to showcase all its qualities.
My very first song of 2009 was an epic from German band Versus X, The Pulse of Earth. It's a perfect time to sit and hear a new stuff ::)
Epics are always nice to start a new year.
What is the length of the song?
I can see how "length" can be important in some connections ;D but I'v never understood all this raving about track lengths or long epics. Usually if a track or epic is long, it's divvied up into sections, and in other cases, seperate tracks segue into each other, and there's not much difference. And if it's a coherent album with one or several connected themes, the entire album is in some sense an "epic".
Anything I'v missed ???

No but the fact is that it's easier to write a short song than an epic. ;)
so therefore if the epic is written with good care than it's, for me that is, more interesting than a shorter song.
But....
However there are exceptions to that rule.
Even a short song can be written in an epical-way, like for instance Troy of Sinead O'conner, or Skin Game of eh...guess who?
Or plenty of others to choose from.
Capiche? ;)

Capiche? ;)
Think so, Måd ;)
OK, valuable point you got there 8)
Nicky.
Well, my last.fm account says:
1. Pendragon - If I Were The Wind
2. Pendragon - Faithless
... and the rest of Not of this World
But I do remember, faintly, singing some karaoke at my friends place... and after that singing loudly some prog with my bands bass-player ;)
So, if that counts then it was probably Queen - Don't Stop Me Now or Scorpions - Wind Of Change.

Not saying anyone here in the Room does this, but to some people a long song is automatically a good song. I hate that attitude! >:(

My first song in 2009 was "Knowing Me, Knowing You", by ABBA, as the whole family was doing Playstation Singstar after all the rockets had been fired :)
And what lovely music that band created thence ;)
