To my ears, Octane is without question my favourite ever Spocks release.

Just getting into it. Terrific album. I'l probably like it as much as the self-titled  *horns*

NP  Spocks:  She Is Everything  (on Octane and repeat)

Tres romantique !  (Bups)

I like Dillinger and heavy stuff a lot, but this here is what really melts me  :) :) :)

And with his wonderful solo, Alan rises up to Gilmour and Mitchell class  *horns*

Yes, Nicky, I agree, great song and great guitar solo  *horns*  but I have trouble with the album as a whole. Surfing the Avalanche, for instance, does nothing for me  :(

NP Magenta - Metamorphosis

I think that I'm gonna love this one soon  8)

Agree. A Flash is a marvellous suite (i refuse to call it an epic  ;)) but Surfing is definitely the weakest link. Shame.  :-\

Indeed a heck of an album. One of the highlights this year already.  8)

Leeland - Sound Of Melodies

Very melodic christian pop-rock. The music sounds OK so far. Reminds me a bit of Muse in some places, especially when the (very nice but also very poppy) voice goes up Bellamy-style. And I thought I just heard a synthesizer!

I was always a bit reluctant towards christian rock, since it's most of the time very crappy. But this is much better than that.
Still no Neal Morse though...

Right, Bupie. Occasionally the Spocks go haywire with some crazy piece that's simple in structure and very noisy but probably fun for them, just like Is This Love? on SB. After a few listens, one can just skip them. (I'm always close to my skip button.) They're prob better live.

Almost all groups have pieces or passages like that, Arena being one of the few exceptions; their albums are very tight with no fillers.

NP  Spocks:  Feel Euphoria

Nice, but almost loungy. They obviously made this album to please - well, understandably, as they didnt know whether or how they could/would continue after Neal's departure.

In my mind, SB is clearly the best Spocks album yet - most edge and memorable passages - with Octane being between FE and SB.

Anyone disagree ?

Well, I only have V and Octave, which are indeed very different but have their own respective merits. At the end of the Day, for instance, is a great epic, in the vein of Transatlantic.

NP Magenta - Blind Faith
     Dream theater - Blind Faith
     Toto - Gift of Faith

It's Faith's party time !  ;D

Perhaps disagree isn't the word, we're only talking about personal tastes after all, but my leanings are certainly different at the moment.  As I mentioned on another thread, Octane is out in front for me, with Feel Euphoria coming second.  Now, I've only recently got hold of Feel Euphoria (so I'm still getting to know it) but it's really grabbed me by the Ernies so far.  Who knows?  This one might be elevated to all-time favourite status before long. 8)

It's interesting how perceptions vary, FE sounds more 'edgy and memorable' to my ears and SB a little more 'almost loungy' as you put it – but that's just my mood this month (I'm playing a lot of Queensryche and Dream Theater at the moment) and SB might well leapfrog to the top with my next mood-swing. :)

Anyway, I'm really splitting hairs here, as I think all three albums are absolute gems from a bunch of guys who're really at the top of their game at the moment.  I think SB is a brilliant album and I've got hundreds of other CDs that don't even come close to it.  But currently I think the other two are even more brilliant...  *horns*

Caïro - Conflict And Dreams

How would you characterise Cairo, Mad ?  You think somethin for me ?

On Amazon, the reviews differ a lot, which is usually a good sign for me.

NP  Spocks:  Feel Euphoria  (on repeat)

But I must say that SB makes me feel more euphoric  ;)
