Anyways, thanx for the info.  8)

John Mitchell is an excellent singer. Listen to Kino or The Urbane and more recently It Bites!

Hmmm this sounds very promising!

John M sounds VERY different from his Kino, Urbane and Frost vocals. A bit more Ray Wilson-ish. Very funny to hear, actually.
And the lyrics he sings are also very different from what he would normally sing.

And to hear Paul Wrightson is really cool, I haven't heared anything by him except for what he did by Arena.
Once again the lyrics he sings are also very different from what he would normally sing with Arena.
And the way he sings with much less drama.

All good!
I REALLY look forward to this!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Why is it unlikely?
They did it with Arena's 10th birthday.

Yes, and I'd love them to do it again. Did you read the biography?  ;)

I think 23 minutes for an unrehearsed encore is something different than an entire tour....
But I would really, really hope that the Reunion was the last step to reconciliation between them.

I've heard Blind Ego a couple of times now.
And although I REALLY like "Moon And Sun", "Open Sore" and "Forbidden To Remain", I have still to get myself into it.
It's totally NOT what I expected. And in fact, I'm a bit disappointed. But maybe this album is a grower for me.

Actually, some songs are better when you listen more to it.
Still I prefer the ones with Paul on it.

To be continued...

Hi all,

I saw Paul yesterday on Heathrow-airport checking in to his flight to Hamburg for the first gig. Regrettably we we in a different line (coming back from South-Africa), so I couldn't say 'hi' to him.

John Jowitt and Paul Wrightson had their first gig together with Blind Ego yesterday. Any reports?

What a funny coincidense, I mean, London Heathrow isn't exactly a small airport...

Are you going to see Blind Ego together with Sylvan next saturday in 'De Boerderij'? I know I will! :)

For anyone still in doubt: reports from Germany mention an Arena-song will be played.

I think it's great that John and Paul keep the heritage as well....

It was really nice to see them play. Paul sang the John Mitchell tracks as well. I though he did pretty good on the Queensryche and Deep Purple track.
He put on some weight and a beard, but it was good to see him after a 9 years absence. Loved what I heard as well. Kalle told me he's writing a second album, and I'm looking forward to that. They really seemed to enjoy themselves.

Blind Ego were great but they did no Arena stuff. Cant remember the set list at all. John did play guitar as well as sing and he was great as always. So weird to see him and John J and Paul on stage together. I met Paul afterwards for the first time and he was very sweet and humble. Not at all how i expected him to be.
Met Company Croydon and Tina (i think..sorry) and HelenDo. (I hope you got home ok Helen)
It was a really good night. Even the support band were ok
Had no idea what Blind ego were like but i was impressed and now at last have the album. Hope they do some more stuff together!

First time online after a few days away.....

The Blind Ego gig was great. Good to see you again Bellanova. The set list was a mixture of RWPL tracks (the only one I knew being Roses) and tracks off Mirror. I'm hopeless at remembering  what's been played, but I'm sure it included:

Moon and Sun, Break You, Mirror, Don't Ask Me Why, Moorland & Obsession.

Amazing to see Paul Wrightson live at last. Great to have a few words with JJ & to meet Alan Reed.

I'm definitely intending to check out more RWPL.

He is from Scotland - I'm not sure where, but I understand he now lives in Tring! He was just there watching the gig. Obviously Blind Ego should have been supporting Pallas, if the Dome gig hadn't been cancelled. He was chatting to JJ (who I sort of know) & he introduced me to Alan. He seemed very nice.

Well, that's strictly limited to your husband or wife.

Ahh yes... Blind Ego.

Not everybody the Bible tells stories about stuck to the Ten Commandments, Paco.

Blind Ego is currently recording a new album. Paul Wrightson will add his vocals to this new album  8).

Quoting Kalle Wallner November 13th:
Today we start recording vocals! Paul Wrightson arrived yesterday... I'm very excited and looking forward to listen to the tunes with his amazing voice finally...!
Cheers, Kalle

November 15th:
Hi there,
great news!
Drummer Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura, Soulfly, Mix Hell) recorded one song for my upcoming Blind Ego album!
During his tour with Mix Hell he visited us in our FARMLANDS studios and decided spontanously to perform one of the Blind Ego songs. He definitively is a brilliant drummer and did an awsome job! Thank you so much, Iggor!
Cheers,
Kalle

Looking forward to this one, their first album 'Mirror' rocks!

Hey, that was an intriguing thought. I didn't know that you were that philosophical, Bluey.

Nicky.

Still struggling with the multi-quote, Nicky ?  ;D

Coming from a woman, doesn't this sentence include a parad ... Mmh, OK, I shut up too :D

Good question, PH. Well, sorry to deceive you with an unextraordinary answer but I just didn't notice the date  :-[

But date and Bluey are two words that go together well   ;)

Yes, message board, I know this topic hasn't been posted on recently, but that's no reason to make a second one for the same band.  :P

Inasmuch as I've been meaning to give these guys a try for a while now, they're another of those bands that it's nearly impossible to get a physical CD from here, and I've got a discount on my next Amazon download, I'm planning to buy the download of one of their albums.  Any opinions as to which one to try first?

As good a method as any unless the second is clearly better (since I won't buy the other if I don't like the first).

Editor's note: once again I typed this a long while ago, but I got distracted -- this time talking to a woman who doesn't obviously want me dead, which is always a nice change of pace.    ;D

Best album to start with?

Mirror is nice but Numb is insanely good, so that'll be my choice.  ;)

There we go, a man not afraid to take a stand.  Numb it shall be unless we get multiple votes for Mirror in the next day or so.

Though there are some extremely good songs on Numb, as a whole I like Mirror better.

I suppose it depends on your taste. Mirror is a more song-oriented (not unlike Arena), while the somewhat heavier Numb echoes Queensryche...

To make things even easier for you, I would start with Mirror.

I think Mirror is more diverse and - dare I say it - more prog. Although Numb has got some stellar songs, after a while the album started to sound a bit 'samey' to me. I think this is mainly because there are no keyboards present on this album.

On Mirror, there are actually three different 'types' of songs. There are the typical prog-songs, sung by Paul Wrightson, there are a few rockier tunes sung by John Mitchell, and there are a few instrumental songs as well. Because of this, the album doesn't sound quite as coherent as Numb, but it's great nevertheless and it's the one I would recommend to someone who isn't familiar with Blind Ego.

I hope this helps. :)

Tom

I agree with Tom. He has summed up the 2 Blind Ego CD's perfectly.

Yep, overall Mirror is the better album - it has more distinct songs whereas, like The Butterfly Man said, Numb is quite 'samey' although to be fair as it still didn't grab me after a couple of spins I haven't played it for a little while - perhaps I should give it another go tomorrow.
