I watched this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEgcunmLIZ4 on Youtube and it would be awesome to hear the story about this clip from you.

I also visited the Dragonforce homepage and there i found that you was getting kudos on helping out on backing vocals. Did you also contribute on keyboard?

Peter

Arriving somewhere, but not here....

PH

Redorded at Thin Ice studios in Surrey, UK...
Mixed at Thin Ice Studios by Karl Groom...
Clive Nolan - Backing Vocals

On the website "Through The Fire And Flames" is played. Very speedy and catchy refrain. Very funny to hear. :D

Clive

I have always enjoyed doing backing vocals on the Dragon Force albums... I've been there since their first demo....I knew the kind of BV sound they would need, and it worked for them.
I did some keys on the demo, but not on their albums...

Deenfan

Why not on their albums?

Are they all off their heads?

I can only guess they have a keyboard player in the band, but even so... toc, toc, toc... ;D

...Actually, Vadim Pruzhanov isn't a bad keyboard player. You should check some Dragonforce stuff out. :)

It probably falls into the Prog Metal category.

It's not bad. A bit of a "how fast is it possible to play a song" but the songs are good.

I can imagine theirs is a competent keyboard player. But Clive...

Too fast for me, actually. It's fun listening to it for the first two minutes, then it gets on my nerves. Too much double bass constantly laying a floor of "drrrrrrrr" might be technically challenging, but not to my ear. The tunes are catchy, though. I'd say: if they could play it in a more "civilized" style, I'd buy it :D

Dream Theater can be a bit like that though... ;)

Yup. "How complicated can we make this without losing the plot"?

I think they've lost it a long time ago. But "When dream and day unite" and "Images and words" are stunning albums with stunningly good song writing.

Peter

Yeah, let's go DT bashing :D  Fiddly widdly scream scream, widdly widdly moog moog scream, widdly wahh ROFL

Great contribution, Peter!

Without Kevin Moore, they can't be helped. Best lyricist is out of the band, the next best (John Myung) can't find his pen... And the rest are either gallivanting drunkenly about in Mysterious Metaphoria (Petrucci) or raging headlong into Plump Obviousity (Portnoy). -While wanting to take the band in this or that direction, trying to do this or that to get to some specific imaginary point, instead of just letting the songs come, and then perform them naturally...

Sorry, I got too deep to be funny after a while there... :-\

Peter

Many say, you either love 'em or hate 'em, which is probably true.

Deenfan

I don't know that mantra, there, to be serious for a second. Is that really true, ever?

I love two of their albums, I hate two of their albums, and I'm indifferent to the rest, leaning towards liking or not liking what I hear on a song by song or even moment by moment basis.

I think you can kinda like'em, or kinda think they're not very much to speak of.

But to make allowances, I understand the spirit of the saying, the point it tries to make: It's not mainstream, and it takes a bit of effort to listen to - something that seems to either end up very rewarding or very annoying. ;)

Great characterisation, cap. I think you hit the nail on the head. You have to consider though that Dragonforce is mainly for kids 15-25; kids dig the power stuff. Fuck civilised, they say. I agree too that if one goes to the trouble of really listening to DF's stuff, one can really hear a lot of music in it. Talented guys for sure. Once they've burnt some of their fuel, they'll be the next generation of Mitchells and Petruccis.

When I was about 20 I discovered prog, but I didn't like metal very much. But now I'm getting older I seem to be digging some heavier music too.
For some good reading visit:""Fluffy Kittens of DOOM"!

Yeah, I didn't mean to start anything ominous there... :-[  I do like them, and I have been learning some of their music... with the help of there manuscript books (!)  There are certain songs that I'm not even going to try though... (Stream Of Conciousness, for example...)
How the f*** can Jordan play some of this stuff??  Good technique, though!

Incidently, Peter, I was unaware they did any screaming...  ;D

And Jordan doesn't take his Moogs out on tour! ;)

At last the captain has realised what's great about Dream Theater (although the ROFL was his addition).

That post was from more than a half year ago. :D
You didn't even exist on the Shattered Room yet. ;D

Today I watched another tiny bit of my Neal Morse Live DVD (I always watch DVDs in parts, because the familiy doesn't like it... In case with Neal Morse it's three songs, four days in between, another three songs etc. etc.) but he's actually ROFL while playing guitar.

No he has the Korg Oasys. Got to play one yesterday. It is a big one.
Must be a Julliard thing, in re: to Jordan playing the stuff ;)
