Hear what you can do with the Producer's disc out of the über-deluxe box set of Dream Theater's Black Clouds & Silver Linings.
I've copied this from the DPRP forum.
Hear and be stunned. ;D

I love it :) Forwarded it to at least 10 friends.
Actually, there's a long-sleeping member on this forum ,"Draddi", who is a die hard DT fan, and he laughed his a** off :)
In the end, even DT seem to be using the known mathematics of well-working harmonies. Haven't I already written that somewhere else... ??....
Brilliant the most amazing ( or scary) aspect is that they both work very well.
Listening to LaBrie over Astley's music you wouldn't know that it wasn't the original vocal track when you compare it to a whole host of similar pop songs of the day

Well, if they didnt, they would be more in the range of twelve-note composition (twelve tone music) - and that's a completely different story ;)
What makes DT so extraordinary is not that they master all the conventions and traditions of music (which they do), but that they go
beyond them while still retaining'm *horns*
The thing is that while Schoenberg & Co. were taking classical music in a speculative direction and thus in my mind losing the
music (emotion), blues, jazz, and later, rock musicians insisted on keeping the "music"; and now prog groups are treating us to all the wonderful classical stuff combined with the delicious raw gutsiness of jazz and rock 8)
Fun audio *horns*

Some might say that the drumming is way better than Portnoy's.
That the singing is way better than James'.
I'd just say good musicianship. 8)

Brilliantly played, just a shame about the cringe-making cheezy metal horns the bass player kept flashing...do me a favour....DT has always been about as far from real metal as Bon Jovi was!
Very good! :)
