Marillion - "Somewhere Else"

After "Marbles" this album felt a bit like a disappointment. But there are still a few nice tunes on it. The Other Half (which I'm listening to right now) is actually alright. It just starts in a very strange way. Most Toys annoyed me at first, but it's a nice rocker. And then there's the title track, one of my favourite H-Marillion songs! Very emotional.

NP Clive Nolan - Otra Vida

If you like Clive's more atmospheric, classical stuff like Strangers On A Train you'll enjoy this.

P.S. There are plans for a European release of this album, with English narration. Some more background info about the album:
QuoteClive's bilingual album 'Otra Vida', was released in  early 2011 in South America. The album featuring a well known Uruguayan singer Noel Calcaterra as well as Clive on keyboards and piano, Mark Westwood on guitars and bass, and Scott Higham on drums, was written on commission from a South American company in the second half of 2010. The libretto of 'Otra Vida' is based on Clive's original story. The narrative was translated into Spanish and recorded by another Uruguayan celebrity, an actress China Zorrilla. In result, we were offered  a unique album: a combination of Spanish spoken word and a set of charming fantasy-like songs in English masterly rendered by Calcaterra. At present 'Otra Vida' in its physical form is available in South America alone, however, the music can be purchased via ITunes and Amazon.

Clive: "I was given the opportunity to write and record an album to be released in Uruguay. The music is lighter than much of what I am known for, but there is an atmospheric fantasy flavor, and the melodies are strong and memorable. I developed a simple story for the project, which has been narrated in Spanish by the famous South American actress, China Zorrilla. I had the pleasure of working with Noel who came to England to record her vocals. The album has yet to properly reach the shores of Europe, but I hope something can be worked out soon".

It makes me feel the urge to listen to Princess Of The Night, my favorite Saxon song. But it will have to wait until I get back home. In the meantime :

Hmm. I didn't exactly find it typical IQ. In my opinion they have made big changes. Which, initially, I didn't like. The music is much heavier, yet it's also more atmospherical. ??? I had a hard time with the title song, because it builds up very slowly. Only Peter Nicholls' voice is typical IQ (and his voice is truly wonderful on this album!!). But I don't even have half of their discography, so what do I know. Perhaps it is typical IQ.
Anyway, I can say that the album is definitely a grower and might be one of my favourits after all! It seems there are not really weak songs on it.

I think I'm going to listen to it now! 8)

I really like this guys. Man, I really do. This might not exactly be 'prog' like in Dream Theater prog or Spock's Beard prog, but it's definitely catchy stuff!

I am beginning to understand why it is so much praised here.

?

I'm in my Jean Michel Jarre period. So heavy rotation for "Oxygène", "Équinoxe" and "Les Chants Magnétiques".
For some reason these albums are fantastic 'summer albums'.

Bupie

Well ...

I have gone past the so far, so good and my understanding of the praise is not achieved yet, so ...  :)

NP Styx - Paradise Theater

Far inferior to The Grand Illusion IMHO but still worth listening
