Now I played it thru and listened intently.

Science, Remembering and Ritual are very enjoyable. It's very expansive music, things take time, sometimes it quietens down, and then it builds up. One of my fave moments is the end of Remembering, quite an apotheosis.

I agree, Paxi, that the first 2/3 of Ancient is not particularly enjoyable, but then comes Steve's fine acoustic guitar passage, and the very melodic passage with Jon singing. On my cd-player, I can't ff, so it would have been useful, as bonus material, instead of the two studio run-thrus, which are useless to me, to have the last third of Ancient.

Maybe Iggy can tell us what we should hear in Ancient - possibly with more than three words ;)

But all in all a very gratifying and repeatable album *horns*

NP  Bal-Sagoth:  The Power Cosmic

Just finished:

Gazpacho - "Demon"

First spin. Very recognisable. A bit heavier perhaps. Not bad at all of course. Needs more spins to say if it's a real winner.

I agree this album needs more listenings. At first listening I was even disappointed. But trust me, after more listenings the puzzle pieces fall into place and the goosebumps show up ;).

Needed to rock out, therefore:
jp: Threshold - March Of Progress
np: Ayreon - Flight Of The Migrator

Arena: Live Recorded: 2011/12 Tour

Music is great as usual, but don't get a real live feeling because the tracks were taken from several gigs which results in many fading out/fading in :-\.

Now playing:
IQ - "Dark Matter"

I have three IQ albums: "The Seventh House", "Dark Matter" and "Frequency".
I'm really looking forward to the new album.

Of the albums I already have, I think I like "The Seventh House" best. But "Dark Matter" is a very good second place. "Frequency" is a very nice album as well, but in my book is definitely the least of these.

I was wondering, where to go from here? Of course I just have to buy the obligatory "Road Of Bones" ;D, but then? "Subterranea" and work my way backwards? Or start with the first?

I'm actually ashamed for having to ask this, since I love "The Seventh House" and "Dark Matter" so much. I know these albums inside and out. But I never actually listened to the rest much.

I would recommend backwards, 'Subterranea' and 'Ever'.

I would agree. But the 2 outstanding tracks for me that you haven't got The Narrow Margin and the Last Human Gateway.

So what is the absolute best IQ album then?

For me the top 3 are Subterranea, The Seventh House and Dark Matter but I think Teunis may disagree  :)
