- Some Arena related artist like The Urbane, Solar, Nolan & Wakeman and Landmarq maybe?
And then the rest.

I listened to some more music and the list goes on and on.

I now have to buy these too:

Dream Theater - Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory
Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
Threshold - Subsurface
Threshold - Replica
Definately the The Urbane albums and the N&W ones.

But that's absolutely too much albums for me to buy... So I have to spread it over the whole year...
Or you guys can donate some money over to me, that would be a lot quicker.

OK, I added Neal Morse's Testimony (Special Edition), Dream Theater's Awake and OSI's Office Of Strategic Influence (Special Edition)

Dream Theater doesn't release any special editions eh?
Neither does Arena, however my Pepper's Ghost was a limited edition, but I don't know the difference...

I updated my list, now everybody can see that I actually listen to more bands than it looked like at first sight.

I still plan to make my CD's-I-own-list larger by adding some Marillion (Anoraknophobia), A.C.T (Last Epic), IQ (The Seventh House, Dark Matter), Frost (Milliontown), Landmarq (Anything with Tracy on it), Nolan & Wakeman (Both CD's), Shadowland (All three), Solar (Dark Places) and The Urbane (Both CD's and in the future all three of them)...

Why don't you already make a list in the Your Listening Profiles subforum (http://shattered-room.net/index.php?board=8.0)?
It doesn't have to be the CD's you own, just what you're listening to. ;)

I forgot to mention that Ayreon - The Human Equation was on my wishlist too, but it isn't anymore, 'cause I bought it just today for only 10 euros (w00t!!! *ola*)

Alright I've bought something else...

When I was on holiday in a really small village (Gerolstein) I heard Ray Wilson will be playing in that small town!
Of course I went there and on the entrance I saw the Ray Wilson-poster and next to it was a doorbell with "Paco" written on it! (That's my name for anyone who don't know already (or didn't care))!

I had a wonderful evening (my dad also!), they played a lot of Genesis material and also his own stuff. I've gotten a strong sympathy for this man, he's great!

Anyway, I bought three CD's at the gig for only 30 euros. Namely: Ray Wilson Live, An Audience And Ray Wilson (Great acoustic live CD) and one of his Stiltskin band: She.

"She" is great, a great addition to my collection.

A week later I bought Milliontown (Frost) in Cologne!
That's also one hell of a CD, it's really really GREAT GREAT GREAT! Nice artwork also, thumbs up!

Oh yes, I had a nice holiday! ;D

A new EDIT here ("so fast already?" yes! ;D).

Yesterday I decided I really needed the Smoke & Mirrors Limited DVD, so I ordered it.
Along with Songs From The Lion's Cage, N&W's The Hound Of The Baskervilles and The Urbane's Neon.
I wonder when I'll get these! Anyone who knows?

Furthermore I went to a famous local Progstore in my town and next week I'll come back to get my Calling All Stations and two Ray Wilson albums (I love that guy (Ray Wilson that is... (Well... OK, also the shopkeeper, he's cool))).

Ray Wilson - Change (Special Edition)
Ray Wilson - The Next Best Thing
Genesis - Calling All Stations

And since I got my order last saturday I'll add those also:
Arena - Songs From The Lion's Cage
Arena - Smoke And Mirrors DVD (Limited Edition)
Nolan & Wakeman - The Hound Of The Baskervilles
The Urbane - Neon

*Checks date of last addition*
7th of August....
Almost a month between then and now.

Anyway, my wallet and I went to the shop and the poor thing had to vomit some cash because I just NEEDED the Dream Theater Score DVD.
And then I bought the CD with it...

I hope my little wallet will ever forgive me, every once in the month that I feed him I take it away right before his eyes.
And after every CD/DVD I buy I feel guilty.

But I care for little Wallet, I promise (once again) that I won't buy anything this month!

Hey I've got a great idea! Let's make a deal! You guys (and girls) will sponsor me and give 1 euro a week. If I haven't bought anything between now and next month I'll double the amount and I'll give all the money to a charity fund!
If I have bought a CD/DVD before the 'deadline', I won't double it but (of course) still give it to a charity fund.
We only have to think of something that will help me not buying anything...

That was a very impressive list, PH, I really must say. Already beforehand, I had experienced that you know a lot about rock (out with one of my rare compliments, so enjoy it fully for a moment).

You think you could cut the list down to 20 groups, maybe even with fave albums ( ), in a provisionally prioritised order?

Thanks beforehand (and a cold beer from me next time (let's see, how many do we have on the list now?)), Nicky.
Title: Re: PH's CD list
Post by: PH on Sun, 2007-05-13, 20:19:35
Thanks for the compliment!
Sure Nicky! I will make a top 20 of favourite bands with their best albums in my opinion.
But it would change every time! ;D

But here I go!

1. Arena ("Contagion". "Pepper's Ghost" and "The Visitor" share a second place, but to be honest I love all the albums and this is a temporary order of albums)
2. Genesis ("Selling England By The Pound" followed by either "Wind and Wuthering", "A Trick Of The Tail" or "Foxtrot")
3. Dream Theater ("Octavarium", followed by "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" and then "Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory")
4. Neal Morse (The whole catalog in backward order starting with "Sola Scriptura")
5. Porcupine Tree ("Fear Of A Blank Planet", then either "Deadwing" or "In Absentia", then either "Stupid Dream" or "The Sky Moves Sideways")
6. Kino ("Picture")
7. Frost ("Milliontown")
8. Ayreon ("The Human Equation")
9. Transatlantic ("A Bridge Across Forever")
10. A.C.T ("Last Epic", closely followed by "Silence")
11. Threshold ("Dead Reckoning")
12. Spock's Beard (Either "Spock's Beard" or "Octane" and then "Snow")
13. Nolan & Wakeman ("The Hound Of The Baskervilles" very quickly followed by "Jabberwocky")
14. IQ ("The Seventh House" and then "Dark Matter")
15. Muse ("Absolution")
16. Shadowland ("Ring Of Roses")
17. Pendragon ("The Maquerade Overture")
18. Blackfield ("Blackfield II")
19. Pure Reason Revolution ("The Dark Third")
20. OSI ("Free")

21. Satellite ("Evening Games")
(Just for the sake of it)

Looking back on that list I'm not really happy with it, 'cause I love them all actually.

Just take the top 5 of it and it's better, the rest is more equally.
But then I wouldn't do Kino and Frost justice.
Maybe a top 7 or so...

I dunno, don't really like top lists. ;) ;D
Title: Re: PH's CD list
Post by: Nicky007 on Mon, 2007-05-14, 09:55:51
That _is_ a very impressive list, PH. I'm particularly impressed because of your tender age (ooh, too many compliments, I'm already beginning to feel ill).

Some of the groups, I don't know that well (Ayreon, Nolan & Wakeman, Shadowland, Pendragon, Pure Reason Revolution, OSI), but this gives me extra motivation to get to know them better.

On the other hand, I'm missing some of the GOPs (Grand Old Prog groups), but it's understandable that they haven't (yet) arrived on your list, as you didn't grow up with them, as I did. These are particularly Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. (I know that many would not characterise Beatles as a prog group, but in my eyes, they're one of the most prog, as they started the whole rock project (Elvis and Cliff weren't yet rock).) It could seem surprising that Genesis made it to your list (even on top, which they certainly merit), and not the other three, but my guess is that you haven't yet listened taht much to the latter.

Floyd being one of the major influences of Arena (arguably _the_), I would think that they would be an obvious choice for you. I consider all their studio albums to be masterpieces (apart from the film soundtracks), but Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Dark Side, Wish You Were here, and The Wall, are in my eyes the most lasting.

Nicky.
Title: Re: PH's CD list
Post by: PH on Mon, 2007-05-14, 11:24:44
Thanks Nicky!
Pink Floyd is very good too, I just need to delve deeper into it's music, instead of discovering new bands. :D

And if you like Arena (and you do!) you NEEEEEEEED to listen to Nolan & Wakeman and Shadowland.
N&W is some sort of Ayreon (but you haven't listened to Ayreon yet, bugger...), it has Clive Nolan and Oliver (son of) Wakeman on keyboards. A lot of guest appearances, but Tracy Hitchings and Bob Catley are on both recordings.
If I'm not mistaken a third album is on the way (could be a while before release though) about Frankenstein(?).

Shadowland is Clive Nolan on keyboards AND VOCALS!!! Karl Groom on guitar. Ian Salmon on Bass.
To me it sounds like Arena Light. Arena No Sugar. Arena No Bubbles. It's Arena but in a stripped way.
You will like it I think.

Ayreon is Rock Opera. A whole lot of famous and favourite guest appearances (Fish (vocals), Damian Wilson (vocals), Clive Nolan (Keyboards), James LaBrie (vocals), Mikael Ackerfeldt (vocals))

Pure Reason Revolution is like Porcupine Tree (I think). Also some Pink Floyd influences. Overall, very clever music, a young band with a lot of talent, I'm very curious about a new release!

OSI is Kevin Moore, Mike Portnoy and Fates Warning guitarist, forgot his name. Guest appearance by Steven Wilson on the first release.
A lot say that the first is better than the second, but I like the second album more.
This band is heavily (heavenly) Moore influenced. Don't search for Dream Theater here.

Pendragon is like Marillion, with a mix of Arena (Nolan on keyboards) and the singer (which is Nick Barrett the guitarist) has a very clean and neat voice!

Check them out! ;)

I've ordered Jabberwocky. What can you recommend of Shadowland?

> but you haven't listened to Ayreon yet

Nope, but Human Equation is on its way from Amazon. I was long reserved about Ayreon, as I'm usually not so hot on groups where people come and go a lot. (But I guess with all you Flying Dutchmen in the Room, I gotta get to know Ayreon.)

> Pure Reason Revolution ....

Got em noted now.

Thanks for the other tips too.

I've just listened to Kamelot's Black Halo, but Kamelot don't do much for me. Not like SyX, who I really enjoy. It's funny, they're often compared, but I for me there's a world of a difference, SyX have that special: magic.

Well... all three of them!
But I think you better start with the first one which I think is the best: Ring Of Roses.
Maybe it's totally not your cup of tea, it has some pop influences and it's... well... I cannot really tell... But I like it anyway. Maybe you should hear some samples first.

And Jabberwocky is good! But if you don't like it, try The Hound Of The Baskervilles, it's heavier, a bit less "romantic", more depressive and aggressive.
And if you do like Jabberwocky, try The Hound too, you won't be disappointed anyway!

Ayreon is all about coming and going of people, but it's all centered around one man: the genius Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Somehow there's a certain atmosphere that every Ayreon album has. So, although every album's got other people on it, but it sounds strangely the same (same quality etc) as the other albums.

I agree totally! ;D Symphony X is soo much better. I especially like those segues in between songs. They're brilliant and of high quality. And the songs itself are of course also brilliant!
Have you heard the solo album of Michael Pinella? The keyboard player of Symphony X? I think it's genius!

You definitely should give Ayreon a long try, nicky. I'm not really objective but it's marvellous.  :D

For Ayreon, considering Nicky tastes, I would go with Into the Electric Castle first.

For Shadowland, I only know Ring of Roses and Through the Looking Glass but I consider the former much better, including a GREAT song : Jigsaw. Plus, TTLG reminds me of the worst album of my favorite band (hello Teunis, are you there ?).  >:(

But all of you, and PH first, should go and listen to The Reasoning right now !!!  *horns*

ToT is indeed very heavy. Sometimes even too heavy for me I think. But I can appreciate the fine moments on that disc too! *horns*
Systematic Chaos is not really that much of a heavy metal album, honestly. True, it has its heavy moments but there's a good bulk of symphonic candy on it!!

PH, people are calling you heavy, but to be real heavy prog, you need (beside DT & Threshold) stuff like Redemption, Zero Hour, Steve Vai, Michael Harris, Thought Chamber, Tool, Aghora, all top notch.

Well, I tried Tool once, but that was surely too heavy for my liking.
But I will try the rest (some previews of Thought Chamber were very good!).

Tool are very prog, and their music has many different moods, i.a. a very Floydian mood that I like e.g. on tracks 3 & 4 on 10,000 Days. But there's a heap of stuff that goes into a Tool album.

> ... some previews of Thought Chamber were very good! ....

Angular Perceptions has become a cult record, and that's well deserved: It's great. I'm not much of a fan of Enchant (they lack"melody") but Ted Leonard is real fine on this one.

Aghora are still rather unknown on this side of the Atlantic. They have arisen out of the Florida scene, and have combined their instrumental and vocal proficiencies with a strong dose of Hinduism, resulting in some very special moods. They're programmed to play at ProgPower Europe, and as they're really into it currently, I'm sure their concert will be a blowout.

If you find Tool too heavy then maybe you should give Dead Soul Tribe a try. A bit softer than Tool but very good indeed.

Just a suggestion.  :) ;)

Too me DST is also very heavy, big wall of sound. I saw them live when they toured with Threshold, and I wasn't very impressed. I also got the album " January Tree"  (or something like that) and I feel the same: Big wall of sound, too loud, not enough melody and variaty in the songs. Compared to Opeth, another "hard & loud"  band that is. Opeth has some very cool acoustic parts in their songs, and the occasional ballad, and their sound is very original.

But it's all a matter of taste anyway  :)

I'll try them all.
But: Try before you buy! ;)

Today my CDs I ordered were delivered! Yahoo!!

I added to the list:
RPWL - World Through My Eyes (Special Edition)
Solar - Dark Places
The Tangent - The World That We Drive Through (Special Edition)
Neal Morse - Testimony Live (2 DVD)     -- THE BEST LIVE DVD I'VE EVER SEEN!!! --
Kaipa - Angling Feelings
The Jelly Jam - The Jelly Jam     -- don't know this album but it was just 4,99 euro and John Myung plays on it, so this is the first I'm gonna play now. --

Oh, I also got a free single with my order just like the last time (Ryo Okumoto).
This time it was Spock's Beard's Skin. Haven't heard it either.

I also bought (but didn't add to the list) Happy The Man - The Muse Awakens, which I'll give my dad 'cos he liked the music very much.

I've added the years of release for each album, and the country of origin.
And I've made the name of the band/singers bold to make it all a bit more oversee-able. Or something like that, you know what I mean...

Sweden and UK dominate my collection, that's very interesting to see.

Interesting, PH.

Really impressive collection for a 19-year old.

However, I would say that you're definitely missing some great American music. As you don't seem to be so much into superheavy stuff like Zero Hour, I'll stick to less heavy, more melodious stuff: Redemption, Fates Warning, Stride, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Chris Cornell, SyX, Rush, Psychotic Waltz, Steve Vai. These are all faves with me.

And how about focussing on some German groups? They're up to it too.

I've tried Redemption. But I guess I haven't tried hard enough. They have "it", you know. But today I'm much more in a soft mood, add a headache to it and you'll know that I can't listen to (the song on ProgArchives of) Redemption for more than a minute... I'll try later on though and I will check their website.

Fates Warning... Well I like the guitarwork of Jim Matheos on OSI. But Fates Warning's discography is very variated. You pick one album and it's heavy as an elephant, while the other is as progressive as... ehmmm... anyway... I need the time to dive into it. Maybe the albums with Kevin Moore first.

Stone Temple Pilots... NEVER heard of them. ;D Checking them now on Myspace, but to be honest I'm not really that impressed. But who knows...

Pearl Jam? Hmm... no.

Chris Cornell. Don't know him. But Myspace gives me some sort of singer-songwriter guy, with a nasal way of singing. Again, I'm not really impressed... :-\ Sorry.

SyX? You mean Symphony X? Or Styx? I really like Symphony X! V: The Mythology Suite is amazing! I still need to find it somewhere, it's a worthy addition to my collection. Is V their best effort? I've heard their new one, and it's ok too, but Russell Allen sounds so different on that one... Symphony X is an interesting band that I absolutely like.

The first thing I heard of Rush was Snakes & Arrows. I instantly liked it! So this band is on my "to do" list. My dad knows some good albums too and he will guide me through it. ;D Of course I need to hear the obvious albums like Moving Pictures and Hemispheres or something...

Psychotic Waltz, isn't that with Buddy Lackey a.k.a. Devon Graves? I like his work with Ayreon so much that I tried Psychotic Waltz, but the ugly cover paintings reminded me so much of the Heavy Metal in its truest form that I hestitated. I'm not sure about this band. What is their main vision? What do they want to express? Can you recommend me an album?

Steve Vai is a Petruccian guitar player eh? Hmm... Recommend me an album and I'll check it out.

Quote from: Nicky007 on Tue, 2007-06-19, 12:20:24And how about focussing on some German groups? They're up to it too.
Like?
Sylvan? Yeah... I don't know, I listened to some of it, and it certainly isn't bad. But still I just know that if I'd buy an album of Sylvan it would gather dust in my collection 'cause there's so much better things out there...
I like RPWL's World Through My Eyes and it's German! I've listened to Eloy and I liked it a bit. Everon is quite good too. Neuschwanstein is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! And I've heard some of Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream. And they all had the good and the bad songs.

Thanks Nicky!!

PH, I forgot Stride earlier. They're definitely something for you. I placed a link to their song Imagine on YouTube under the thread "Best prog singers" a couple of weeks ago.

Then there's Michael Harris. He's made several excellent soloalbums, where he explores a multitude of different genres. His Orchestrate is fun, as he lays a foundation of an electronic symphony orchestra and lets his guitar play on top of that. Thought Chamber is Harris with Ted Leonard and the equally crazy bassist and drummer from Haji's Kitchen. They've put out Angular Perceptions, a masterpiece.

With Fates Warning, you simply have to get A Pleasant Shade Of Grey. This is a masterpiece that is just as necessary to a proggie as the Bible is to a Christian (and being both, you need both).

Re Stone Temple Pilots, I can recom "Tiny Music. Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop" as a starter. There are lots of nice songs on that'un, sort of Beatles with a grunge flavor.

Re Chris Cornell, he's one of the finest singers ever, but his voice first came to full expression on his first soloeffort, Euphoria Morning. The captain likes it, so that should be a good recom.

With Steve Vai, a good place to start is Fire Garden. You find everything there: great guitar playing, nice melodies, great rhythms, deep thoughts about life, fun, and a lot more. Steve has said that FG is his personal favorite. It probably is the most encompassing of his albums.

Pearl Jam are more of an acquired taste. Bare and honest music. I'm very fond of their most recent self-titled album.

Psychotic Waltz are a bit old now and rather suave, but their four albums are quite special and there's a lot of melody to be found. I like Bleeding a lot.

SyX is short for Symphony X. I see you know them well.

Re German music, well, as I already expressed here, Christ 0 easily tops everything krauty that I've heard, but I think Sylvan and RPWL are fine too, and several other German groups. They're definitely getting there.

PH, I can't quite guess what you mean by "it".

In any case, Redemption's Fullness Of Time (their second album) is a true masterpiece. Nick & Co. just got everything together in a real good way on that one, and Ray sings like he's gonna die tomorrow. Rather heavy to begin with, but once you're in, it's addictive. I had it on repeat for weeks.

Their first album, self-titled, and third, The Origins Of Ruin, are excellent too.

Don't know how I should make that more clear...

I wanted to know how much studio albums I have and from which year.

1969: 1
1973: 1
1974: 1
1975: 1
1976: 2
1978: 2
1985: 1
1992: 1
1994: 1
1995: 2
1996: 1
1997: 1
1998: 1
1999: 5
2000: 3
2001: 3
2002: 4
2003: 8
2004: 6
2005: 10
2006: 7
2007: 6

So for me it seems that my top 5 list of best prog years is as follows:
1. 2005 has given me 10 studio albums
2. 2003 has given me 8 studio albums
3. 2006 has given me 7 studio albums
4. 2004/2007 has given me 6 studio albums
5. 1999 has given me 5 studio albums

How many studio albums catogorized by country:
Sweden has given me 14 studio albums
UK has given me 32 studio albums
Netherlands has given me 3 studio albums
USA has given me 18 studio albums
Germany has given me 1 studio albums

1. United Kingdom (this is also Stiltskin (half UK half Germany), Blackfield (half UK half Israel), The Tangent (half UK half Sweden)
2. USA (this is also Transatlantic (half USA quarter UK quarter Sweden)
3. Sweden
4. Netherlands (this is also Stream Of Passion (half Netherlands half Mexico half Sweden)
5. Germany

So most of my albums come from the United Kingdom.

Prog is probably UK USA and Sweden 'cause nothing else comes even close.
Very interesting to see, if I say so myself. ;D

Still, don't forget that this is very subjective.

I like that album very much indeed. In fact I love ALL Genesis albums. The problem is that I won't buy them 'till the remastered CDs (with the extras) come out. But I like the MP3s on my harddisk! :P ;D

Yeah, it's good. But I think I like Octavarium and Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence better.
This Systematic Chaos is somewhat like Train Of Thought... It's good, but a bit too dark and although it is there: not to much symphonic influence for my liking.

All in all: There's too much metal on it! ;D

But I think overall it's a very good CD and a worthy addition to my collection, absolutely! *horns*

Added to my list is Transatlantic's Live In Europe DVD.

Unfortunately no special edition... but on the website it says nothing about a special edition. In fact the album in itself is special enough. Amazing music. I'm very happy to add it to my ever growing collection. It costed me 12,99 euro.

- Marillion - Script For A Jester's Tear
This is the "24 Bit Digital Remaster Plus Bonus Disc" (Market Square Heroes and Grendel included!). The booklet is fine too. Lots of texts that I will read on a dark winter night with a mug of warm chocolate. I know the music itself already (of course, I would say......... some wouldn't approve, but.........), but that was kind of low quality. Too bad we don't get to hear Mick's side of the story in the booklet... Pete gets to say something, Mark too. And of course Uncle Fish talks. But Mick? No way... (8,99 euro)

- Steve Hackett - Voyage Of The Acolyte
I'm now listening to this. And I really like it. Now that I have it on CD, I'm gonna play it in the car with my parents in it. ;D My dad wouldn't mind that much I think. (7,99)

In total this costed me 29,95 euro!

Unfortunately no special edition... but on the website it says nothing about a special edition. In fact the album in itself is special enough. Amazing music. I'm very happy to add it to my ever growing collection. It costed me 12,99 euro.

Since i happen to have the special edition i can tell you how special the special edition is.  ;)

-The artwork is better/prettier.
-There's a Documentary on it which can only been seen in your computer.
-There's an interview with the band members in it with some very nice background info.
-There's a short biography of each band member. You know, which artist influenced them, what kind of music they like.

Overall, a nice special edition but not one that shakes the earth.  ;)

Well, in that case, it's kind of OK.
I think I need to get off with the idea that "special edition" is the best.

Anyway, today I bought some cds again.

- Hidria Spacefolk - Symetria
- The Tangent - A Place In The Queue (special edition ;))
- Sylvan - Posthumous Silence

Added Falling Into Infinity (Dream Theater) to the list.
Also italicized the albums that aren't studio albums. (like DVDs, Live albums and singles/EPs)

Universal Migrator added! 8)
Now I still need Actual Fantasy and Star One's Space Metal and Ambeon's Fate Of A Dreamer. (And of course 01011001!)
And I also want Steve Thorne's CD's and perhaps a few Magenta CD's and Satellite of course.
Too many wishes and not enough money. ;D

Imo the least best Ayreon album. Arjen never wanted it to an Ayreon album, but the record company made him use the same name, because they wanted it to sell aswell as The Final Experiment.

Ooh, two opposites :) I would get those two before you get Actual Fantasy. Personally I don't really like Ambeon, but that's just because of the style of singing Astrid uses. Musically i's as solid as any other Arjen-album.

Yeah, it also doesn't take part of the Ayreon story. A very interesting story by the way.

Yeah I see what you mean. Astrid has a very nice voice, but the way she "breaths" the lyrics... if you know what I mean...

Hi there !

I'm from Norway and I see that you've listed Magic Pie as from Sweeden, but they're from Norway.
Otherwise I have much the same cd's that you have, but I can recomend :

Castanarc - All albums but start with "Journey to the east"
IQ - Subterranea,  The wake
Flower Kings - Retropolis, Welcome to the world of adventures
Jadis - More than meets the eye
Threshold - Hypothetical
Big Big Train - Bard

best regards gwaihir

Yeah, I guess I need them eh? It's Progressive Monuments.

I actually don't really like The Flower Kings that much... Paradox Hotel is one of the purchases I most regret... But I've heard Roine's solo album (The Flower King) and that's actually quite good! So if Retropolis and Welcome To The World Of Adventures sound more like The Flower King, I might check them out!

So how's that new album then? The 2007 album I mean. Of course I will give them a try. Heard so much good things about them recently.

Thanks for the recommendations Gwaihir! I appreciate it!
It would be cool if you could give a bit in depth information about the recommended albums. Why do you recommend them?

Furthermore I wish you a warm welcome and I hope you'll stay with us here in the room. Most of us are a nice bunch of people. Some are... a bit... strange... But nice too. ;)

Blackfield - NYC: Blackfield Live In New York City DVD added!

I won this in a competition on DPRP.net ;D

I also edited the first page. Now a shopping list is added. The list is somewhat short at the moment, because I cannot remember all that I want to buy...
01011001, Star One and Subsurface are "on order", which means I will get them at the end of January! ;D

I just heard about the competition between Nicky and myself, so I better get this one going.

I did an edit on the first page of my Listening Profile.
You can see I made a shopping list.
1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade.
1st grade is the most high on my shopping list and 3rd is (obviously) the lowest on my shopping list.
Of course there may be some shifting between the three grades.

Anyway, I put Porcupine Tree's "The Sky Moves Sideways" on my shopping list, 1st grade. Because it's so awesome! 8)
And some others, but you have to look at it yourself. Perhaps you can give me recommendations?

Since you're so Nordic oriented, how about Winterstrain, Circus Maximus, Beardfish, Seventh Wonder, and Katatonia ?

And I still think that Eleven and Chris Cornell would fall in your taste.

And Ten, of course ...... but I guess there's something seriously wrong with them, which I havent yet perceived, so I continue to live with the illusion that they're one of the greatest bands around ...... ::)

Yes! My Fish era Marillion is complete! ;D

Marillion's 1987 - Clutching At Straws (2 CD Version) is added to the list! You can congratulate me now.

I see that the second disc is filled to the brim with previously unreleased material. Is it good?
Wow, I'm excited! I'm gonna play this one soon! 8)

But not now, because I also bought:

The Tangent's 2008 - Not As Good As The Book (Special Edition).
In the bus on the way home I read a part from the novel and it was so funny. I'm sure some fellow-travellers have been looking at me like "Why is he smiling? What's so funny? What is he reading?".
I'll quote a bit, but before that, let me tell you that the main protagonist is Dave. He is going to his favourite record shop "Virgin Records":

His wife would never know. As far as she was concerned, he was at work and that was it. The trouble was that a friend of the family had started to work recently at the local Border's bookshop where he had normally bought (and subsequently sneaked into his collection) a CD.... ('Oh - I've had that for years,') and he didn't want reports of his illegal buying activities causing embarrassing pauses at any forthcoming soirees or nights at the pub.

So brilliant! ;D
And it only gets better and better! ;D
Sometimes very recognizable, things like repairing a CD shelf etc. etc. This man lives for his music collection it seems. And that he only listens to his favourite music in the car or on his computer, while downstairs he has the best of the best HIFI system one can dream of. But he's got a family and they don't like his music.
Hahaha! This book is written for a prog fan! There are so many things that you will remind you of your own self! :D
And I'm only just in the second chapter!!

Now to complete my collection, I only need "The Music That Died Alone".

You're on to a good thing. Seasons End is about as fantastic as an album could ever get.

If you're into lyrics, you have aquired one of the purest gems I've ever encountered. I always used to say it was an album full of "once-in-a-lifetime" lyrics. By that I mean lyrics so good any lyricist can only expect to write one such throughout his career. The single's lyrics are clever and better than most singles, but perhaps no sensation. The rest, however, is.

Indeed. I don't care whatever people have to say about H era Marillion, I really like this album!
The Uninvited Guest sounds very Fish era though. H even sounds like Fish in some places here.

In fact, on Seasons End, the main body of the lyrics is written by John Helmer, a lyrical genius of rare qualities. He's got this ability to think up intriguing plots or twists, and the core idea of what the lyrics are about often - alone - blow my mind. I realize I am lucky to pick up on all this, and he might not talk to everyone else the same way. But then, that's how it is with all art, isn't it?

You mentioned "The uninvited guest". That one is full of clever and strong lines, in addition to being a great idea to begin with, and a bit mysterious to boot.

My favourite, and one of my favourite lyrics ever, is "Berlin". That is a haunting, terrible and beautiful story, and as well written as can be. And the setup... the roundabout way in which it is told... I don't know... It just... well... blows my mind.

Ah, and of course, the opening track. Let me get one thing clear immediately: I don't know what that is about, and I don't want to know. It's just so wonderful and mysterious and a pleasure to read and listen to. I don't always have to know what lyrics are about. When I feel, like in this case, caressed by the words on multiple levels and strings inside, and the obscurity of the sensation adds to the experience, stripping it naked might do more harm than good.

Just flow with the words, and make up your own pictures as you go. Wonder about what's not clear, enjoy the realization when it becomes clear... I hope you'll pick up on some of this, and maybe some bits I didn't connect with. The world of lyrics is an underrated and underestimated place. The whole point to the music lies there. Without having that story to tell, the music wouldn't make sense, let alone the singer.... It'd all have to be rearranged into instrumental pieces. And still, they'd need some kind of image or vision to play out, or it'd be just playing for the sake of moving fingers.

So there... 8)

;)

I've ripped all my albums to my pc and after a little calculation I came to know that:

I have music with a total of 5 days, 22 hours, 38 minutes and 52 seconds playtime.

And in 128 kbps that's 7,66 GB.
Exactly enough to put it all on my MPIO MP3 player which can hold 8 GB (7,74 GB to be precise).

I say "ahem", Mad  ::)

But do Yes know ?  :D

Reminds me of the following great joke, which is supposed to be authentic:  A few decades ago, the Oxford philosopher JL Austin was giving an address to a large audience of his fellow philosophers in New York. In the course of this address, which was about the philosophy of language, Austin raised the perennially interesting issue of the double negative. "In some languages," he observed in his clipped Oxbridge diction, "a double negative yields an affirmative. In other languages, a double negative yields a more emphatic negative. Yet, curiously enough, I know of no language, either natural or artificial, in which a double affirmative yields a negative." Suddenly, from the back of the hall, in a round Brooklyn accent, came the comment: "Yeah, yeah."  - Jim Holt: "Stop Me If You've Heard This: A History and Philosophy of Jokes"

Now that you'v strained yourself intellectually, here are three jokes of a quite different "nature" (more "roomy"), from the same book:

A woman flies into Boston, eager to enjoy a plate of the fish for which that city is famous. "Where can I get scrod?" she asks the driver as she gets into the cab. "Gee," he replies, "I've never heard it put in the pluperfect subjective before."

And the one about the successful diet Bill Clinton went on: "He's lost so much weight, now he can see his intern."

Angry guy walks into a bar, orders a drink, says to the bartender, "All agents are assholes." Guy sitting at the end of the bar says, "Just a minute, I resent that."'Why? You an agent?" "No. I'm an asshole."

Too bad man. I'm actually glad I didn't pre-order it to be honest. I also still don't have the album but it saves me a lot of frustration I guess. Here's what John Jowitt says on the Frost*-forum:

QuoteWe're clearly having some problems with orders taken by the CRS which haven't been passed on to us. This obviously means you don't get your goodies, and we don't get paid for providing them, so both of us lose out. I'm sure this is a case of cock up rather than conspiracy, as are most things in the world except for the continued lack of success of my favourite football team, but anyway...

If you have made an order through the CRS (or any other) and you've not heard anything, please PM TLD in the first instance (now SHE's organised!), or me if you are at all worried by the status of your order.

Apologies for any problems - please get in touch and we'll sort it - these problems will not arise with the Frost shop over which we have full control.

JJJ

Hope this helps in any way.

Yeah I know... I've been reading the Frosties* forum for quite some time now. Terrible.

My order was:
- Experiments In Mass Appeal
- Tour CD
- T-Shirt Milliontown
- T-Shirt Milliontour

I received:
- Tour CD
- T-Shirt Milliontown
- T-Shirt Milliontour

ARRGGHH...

I sent a PM to TLD there and she sent one back.
She made an apology and posted EIMA yesterday, along with a free beanie hat. ;D

So, I think I should have it Tuesday or something.

I need the beanie, since it's gonna get frosty...

Next on the Marillion list are "Holidays In Eden", "Brave" and "Afraid Of Sunlight".

And finally, after a year, there they are! 8)
I'm looking forward to "getting into" Brave. It's always a struggle, I know. (Strange enough, this sentence makes me think of another Marillion song... can't put my finger on it though...)

And also Electric Light Orchestra (the (in my eyes) three essential albums) is added to my ever expanding collection.

The song that you are referring to is on Marbles but isn't any of the following:

The Invisible Man
Marbles I
Genie
The Only Unforgivable Thing
Marbles II
Ocean Cloud
Marbles III
The Damage
Don't Hurt Yourself
You're Gone
Angelina
Drilling Holes
Marbles IV
Neverland

So, which one is it? That's up to you now...  ;D

Alright. I've finally updated my list! ;D

In one and a half year I've bought quite a few albums.

Here they are:

- Arena:
Pride (finally my Arena studio album collection is complete!)

- Dream Theater:
When Dream And Day Unite (haven't really played this one that often yet.)
A Change Of Seasons (great song, for the rest: don't listen to it much.)
Black Clouds And Silver Linings (the special 3 CD edition!)

- Guilt Machine:
On This Perfect Day (really nice music!)

- IQ
Frequency (good, but not better than "Dark Matter" and "The Seventh House".)

- Kaipa
In The Wake Of Evolution (perhaps Kaipa's best.)

- Marillion
Somewhere Else (the title track is one of my favourites.)

- Porcupine Tree
Up The Downstair (second PT album and really spacey.)
Voyage 34: The Complete Trip (even spacier.)
The Sky Moves Sideways (best old PT album in my opinion!)
Signify (nice songs on this one. I guess this album is a grower.)
Nil Recurring [EP] (no weak song on this one.)
The Incident (to me it was a bit of a disappointment.)

- Silhouette
Moods (the brother of my dad's colleague plays bass)

- The Tangent
Down And Out In Paris And London (still have to get into this.)

- TransAtlantic
SMPTe (couldn't do without this one really! A musthave!)
The Whirlwind (best Neal Morse related album in four years.)

- Vangelis
Blade Runner [OST] (the 30th anniversary edition. BEAU-TI-FUL!)
1492: Conquest Of Paradise [OST] (a classic!)

- Ray Wilson
Propaganda Man (nice songs.)

- Steven Wilson
Insurgentes (very challenging music. Really worth it!)

Try the following moderately heavy melodic metal bands and artists, all pantheon with me: Shadow Gallery, Dominici, Symphony X, Queensrÿche, Circus Maximus, Seventh Wonder, Subsignal, Sieges Even, Robert Plant, Explorers Club, Dali's Dilemma, Stride, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice in Chains, Jerry Cantrell, DeadSoul Tribe, Arcturus, Down, Enslaved, Extreme (ex-dream), Pearl Jam, Judas Priest, Them Crooked Vultures, Tool, Vanden Plas, Adagio - should keep you occupied for while  :)

Yes and Pink Floyd are more symphonic and adventurous.

Which ones, Paxi ?

Well, I've listened to:
Shadow Gallery's "Tyranny" and "Room V".

I had a Symphony X period. I listened a lot to "V: The Mythology Suite" and "Paradise Lost".

Queensrÿche was one of the first Prog Metal bands I listened to. Actually, I discovered Queensrÿche and Dream Theater almost simultaneously. At first I liked Queensrÿche a lot more, but in the end Dream Theater won. I listened to "Tribe" and "Operation: Mindcrime II" and I'm sure I can still sing along to a few songs of the "Tribe" album. Quite catchy stuff actually. 8)

I was blown away by Seventh Wonder's "Mercy Falls" initially. But I never took it deeper and there was so much going on that year.

Regarding Subsignal, I am still in discovery phase.

I was listening to Explorers Club even before I joined this forum (even before you Nicky?). This because I was enjoying Dream Theater so much, I wanted to listen to anything related to that band. "Age Of Impact" was nice, but at that time, John Petrucci's solo album and the Liquid Tension Experiment albums made more 'impact'. Besides, their second album "Raising The Mammoth" had two lenghty songs and I was not ready for that. But I think I just have to get back to that one.

Tool is an odd one. Some bits are really cool, but most of the time it leaves me cold...

That leaves:
Dominici, Circus Maximus, Sieges Even, Robert Plant, Dali's Dilemma, Stride, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice in Chains, Jerry Cantrell, DeadSoul Tribe, Arcturus, Down, Extreme (ex-dream), Pearl Jam, Judas Priest, Them Crooked Vultures, Vanden Plas and Adagio.

Some well known names to me, and some lesser known names. Well, I guess I have some homework to do.

I don't think it'll come with age, Nicky. I just don't like it. I already loathed "we all live in a yellow submarine", we had to sing it in class. Same for "Yesterday". I've heard a few albums, and it was all the same to me. Nah, I didn't like it. Sorry guys!

Yes and Pink Floyd are more symphonic and adventurous.

Zep created a musical revolution with their first two albums, I & II, as big as Floyd with The Dark Side Of The Moon  *horns*

Like so many lesser groups (Priest at the time, Maiden still), they could'v continued milking the cow, putting out the saaaaame ooooold stuff again and again, selling millions of albums, and rocking the arena crowds (not Clive & Co.  ;D ). Nope, that was not Page & Plant !  Instead they metamorphosed completely with their following albums, always experimenting, always exerting themselves to express blues, folk, and rock in new exciting shapes  8)

So talk about being adventurous  ;)

But OK, such are Floyd and Yes too  *horns*

Good comparison, Paxi, I just had to remove the "more"  ;D

Quote
I listened a lot to "V: The Mythology Suite" and "Paradise Lost".

That was their transitional period: Up to V they were very classical and symphonic. With PL they started getting more metal. Their latest, Iconoclast, is a fabulous, real heavy and raucous album  *horns*

In this world there are two kinds of people; on one side the people who like the Rolling Stones and on the other side the people who like the Beatles.

No true Beatles fan can do anything with the Rolling Stones and visa versa.

Granted, they made some obscure and meaningless songs but to me The Beatles are essential in any collection, regardless if you're a Rolling Stones fan or not.

Yeah, I remember when I was young, the world was divvied up like that  ::)

However, I'v liked both groups since I was about 15, or more precisely: I like Beatles, Rubber Soul - Let It Be (last released studio album), and Stones, December's Children - Beggars Banquet.

There are of course some great songs on albums outside of these periods, but the latter are imo the golden ages for these two great groups  *horns*

It consists of a double live cd called "Genesis Classic - Live In Poznan", along with a dvd with some songs of the same concert. Also a cd of Stiltskin called "Unfulfillment".

So that's three cds and one dvd for the ridiculous price of 19.99 euros!!

So that's three cds and one dvd for the ridiculous price of 19.99 euros!!

Whaddaya think of that?! ;D
Not bad at all  ;). Really love the Genesis album 'Calling All Stations' with Ray on vocals. This album is way too underrated!

I now also added all the samplers I got with magazines etc.

Today I got another one: "CRS presents: New Species, Volume 2".
With an Arena track 8)

I'm also going to update my wishlist now.

I added three new cds:

Anathema - "Falling Deeper"
I love this one to bits. Couldn't find "We're Here Because We're Here", but If I could, I had bought it too. Can't wait for their next one.

Gazpacho - "March Of Ghosts"
Didn't have the opportunity to listen to it as a whole, but it's one of the few albums I bought on the basis of small bits of good ratings, samples and one full song.

Devin Townsend - "Terria"
(only 7,99 euros)
Secretly I know Mr. Townsend already, but this is the first physical album I buy. I remember seeing this one on ProgArchives being rated as his best album.

One could certainly make a case for that.  It includes my favorite song of his, "Earth Day."  Eat your beets!

Today I bought two new albums:

It Bites - "Map Of The Past"
which sounds really nice on first listen. 8) It is It Bites' fifth studio album (or Kino's third...) and their first concept album about, well, the past actually.

OSI - "Fire Make Thunder"
more of the same... which I like! ;D Still, I think with this album they stopped adding new things. "Free" was quite different from "Office Of Strategic Influence", and "Blood" was even a little bit further away. This one is in the same line as "Blood". I think it's a grower.

I also bought my first replacement.
Porcupine Tree - "In Absentia" needed a replacement since it doesn't play on my cd player anymore. I was lucky to find this one for only 5 euros. ;)

If you don't have more cd's lying somewhere else, you seem to have about 150 cd's in all. You can be happy that you'r not as crazy about music as I am. I have about 1300 cd's, collected over eight years. And I wonder how that's possible. I havent had a proper job in all those years, and I havent had any money  :o

I think I need to update that photo now. Since the shelf is getting rather full now. And I have been listening to Prog for seven years now, but I'm also still a student.

Anyway there's a lot of music coming up. And I'm being mr. Buy-a-lot lately...
Today I bought a 3-in-1 Anathema package: "Judgement", "A Fine Day To Exit" and "A Natural Disaster", for only 16 euros.
The only downside is: no nice booklet or anything... just three discs in a slipcase. But I couldn't resist.
Also bought "Hindsight" for 9 euros.
I'm really getting there I think.

Kaipa - Vittjar
Threshold - March Of Progress
The Flower Kings - Banks Of Eden

These three were added to my collection today.
Kaipa and Threshold were absolutely required since I am a big fan. I love Kaipa's playfulness and Threshold is always catchy.
The Flower Kings is a different cup of tea. I only own "Paradox Hotel" which isn't really bad, but I don't play it very often. Besides, if this album wasn't only ten euros, I wouldn't have bought it.
Now I have "Banks Of Eden" which is said to be one of their best, and I am very curious since I love really EVERYTHING Roine is involved in, except for his main band...  :-\

If you try anymore Flower Kings the try Space Revolver which is my favourite FK cd. I think I have Vittjar on the way but have never clicked with Threshold but I only own Hypothetical and Extinct Instinct

Well, I am actually a big fan of Roine Stolt, and his album "The Flower King" is on my "to buy" list for as long as I can remember. If I can find it. I've been told that the two subsequent albums ("Back In The World Of Adventures" and "Retropolis") are kind of the same, so I think I'll go for these albums.
Still, "Banks Of Eden" got rave reviews and I am very curious.

Going to play Threshold first though. The last two studio albums were really good.
"Hypothetical" is really good, but Threshold really did it for me with "Subsurface" and "Dead Reckoning" (also their fanclub release "Replica" is better than it suggests).

Yesterday, I ordered six albums. These were:

- 1973 - Tubular Bells
- 1974 - Hergest Ridge
- 1975 - Ommadawn
- 1978 - Incantations
- 1979 - Platinum
- 1980 - QE2

They are all part of a collection box called:
"Mike Oldfield Classic Album Selection (Six Albums 1973-1980")
And all of them have been recently (2009-2012) remastered.

I'd rather stick to studio stuff first Nicky.
I do have a couple of live albums in my collection, but most live stuff is DVD stuff actually. Some exceptions are:
Arena / Smoke And Mirros live disc (came with the live dvd)
Dream Theater - SCORE live disc (because I was really into Dream Theater at the time)
Kaipa - live disc (came with the boxset I bought)
And various Ray Wilson live cds. That's because there's much Genesis material on it and because I want to keep that special evening alive back in 2006.

Most of the time I don't play live cds at all.

Re: Mike Oldfield

I really would like to have the remastered versions of "Crises" and "Discovery". There are some amazing songs on those albums.

Hahaha!
Actually, I removed my video games to another cabinet.
I moved a few of my DVDs to the lower right shelf.
Now there's more room for music!

For example: In the upper photo, the great orange packaging, which is TransAtlantic's "The Whirlwind", has been replaced by "Storm Corrosion" in the lower photo.
In the lower photo, "The Whirlwind" is moved quite a bit to the right. Which means there are more discs.
And the empty space in the up-right corner is filled with great cds now.

And on top of that (and on top of the shelving unit) there is more nonsense stuff.

So, yes... it's... a bit different... :-\

Today, two cd's arrived on the doormat:

Roine Stolt - "The Flower King"
Finally!! After spending months (actually years) looking for it, I found it in print at the Free Record Shop internet store (http://www.freerecordshop.nl/muziek/flower-king-roine-stolt-5052205006030). It was only ten euros! You don't hear me complain, but surely, this album is a lot more worth than that!

It's still there, so if any of you Dutchies don't have this album yet, spend ten euros on this cd now and get it tomorrow!

The Tangent - "COMM"
For only ten euros I couldn't resist. Their music is really an acquired taste and I don't expect to like it a lot (same with their two preceding albums) but on the strenght of "The World That We Drive Through" and "A Place In The Queue" I'm certainly gonna try!

I expect Porcupine Tree's "On The Sunday Of Life" soon, to complete my collection. Not really a fantastic album per se, but I already have every other Porcupine Tree studio album (including "Nil Recurring", "Voyage 34" and "Recordings") so I figured "what the heck".

Indeed, a masterpiece!

Spock's Beard's "X"
Gazpacho's "Bravo", "When Earth Lets Go", "Firebird" and "Missa Atropos"

Glass Hammer's "Culture Of Ascent"
No-Man's "Together We're Stranger"
Squackett's "Life Within A Day"
Frank Klepacki's "Infiltrator", "Viratia" and "Conquering 20 Years"

Disorder -> order -> disorder, and you got yerself a bottle of splotch, and a big beaker so that you can drink it in one gulp  ;D

OK, Paxi, let's take a look at your new purchases:

Haken's Aquarius is a supergood choice, this band is one of the most exciting around  *horns*

I'm also very happy that you'r getting well into Yes. These guys have done (and still are doing seemingly) some unbelievable music and lyrics, and they'v had an influence on all serious musicians that goes far far beyond their sales numbers *horns*

I havent heard Spock's latest - which I definitely will - but I'm severely impressed by everything from Snow onwards, at this point very much prefering the D'Virgilio era  *horns*

All these three groups are pantheon with me  8)

I'm also impressed by Steve Hackett's stuff. He isn't pantheon with me .... but that's probably cuz I havent delved deeply enuff - yup, even I havent been all around  :-[

Gazpacho and DeeExpus are a bit light for my taste ... but OK, definitely fine groups  :)

What I'v heard of Glass Hammer - I actually have their Inconsolable Secret - is rather New Agey to my taste, but their Perilous looks interesting, and I'l check it up .....  ;)

Marillion - yeah, OK, nice music ... but why did they have to become so middle-aged  :-\

The other stuff I have on my To Check list .....

Yeah, OK, Paxi, you aint doin too bad  8)

... but if you'r enjoyin DT, Haken and Opeth, you could very well do some RH, SW, CM, Anthriel and Eumeria (just to mention five great melodic prog groups ... and we'l wait with the ruffstuff)  ;)

Actually, the bottle is something my mom brought home when she returned from her holiday in Curaçao. I don't think I'll ever drink from it, since it smells funny... The big blue beaker is where I keep all my stuff that doesn't belong anywhere but I cannot bring myself to throw away.

It's definitely good stuff. These four albums anyway. I really like "Fragile" and most of "Close To The Edge". It's must have material. Especially considering most of new Prog bands are build around the fundaments of bands like Yes.

Too bad D'Virgilio has left the beard. I really like his drum playing and his voice. I like both eras of Spock's for different reasons. 2013 is gonna be an exciting year. I already preordered the new SB album. This time I won't miss the special 'preorder only' bonus track. "Their Names Escape Me" was a really nice (and very different) song and I should hit myself on the head for not having preordered that album...

DeeExpus is not much lighter than anything above.
Gazpacho might be light in instrumentation perhaps. But not light in lyrical contents and (musical) ideas. It's not 'in your face' but it's great evening headphones stuff.

I need to get Seventh Wonder and Circus Maximus into my collection in physical form. ;) Just haven't found them in the shops yet, or I was busy with other bands. One of the 'bad' thing about CD's is that you don't get the full Yes experience. The Roger Dean covers were awesome and the majority of the Yes Albums were gatefolds as well, which doesn't really translate into the CD world.

One of the good things is that you can easily take the music to lots of places. For example: the car. Or when you rip it to mp3s, well, anywhere really! But indeed, the album cover experience is not to be underestimated.

Yes are one of the few acts from the late 60s, early 70s that are still doing exciting stuff and continue to push their boundaries. In fact I can only think of Judas Priest who also still are at it. Fly from Here is a super album, and real edgy, one of their best imo  *horns*

And these are guys in their Viagra age  ;D

Stones have been doin the same stuff over and over again (hm, this phrase reminds me of somethin  :P ) for the past 40 years, and Genesis are a total sellout - sad  :'(

One of the good things is that you can easily take the music to lots of places. For example: the car. Or when you rip it to mp3s, well, anywhere really! But indeed, the album cover experience is not to be underestimated.

Before you were born there was a medium called cassette.  ;D ;D ;D ;D But your point is well made.

Opeth - "Blackwater Park"
Mystery - "The World Is A Game"
Neal Morse - "Neal Morse"
Neal Morse - "God Won't Give Up"
Neal Morse - "Songs From The Highway"
Rick Altizer - "Scripture Memory: Pop Symphonies"

These were added lately.
I must say, "Scripture Memory: Pop Symphonies" by Rick Altizer is a really fun album!
Also bought the Neal Morse autobiography. Probably will read it in one go.

Good stuff there, Paxi  8)

It may come as a surprise to you, but I actually have 4 Neal Morse albums - Testimony, One, ? and the great Sola Scriptura (big Martin Luther fan, me) - and some five years ago I listened quite a lot to'm  :)

Mystery I still have to get into - but will, no Mad promise  ;D

And I'm happy that you'r getting more into Opeth - super group, one of my real faves  *horns*

So, on the metal front, guess it's: Opeth, the two DT's, Threshold, Haken, and Riverside, huh ?  Got some other great metal groups waitin for ya, just check out my pantheon list .....  ;)

If I would rate those four albums now, it would be like this:
1. Sola Scriptura
2. ?
3. One
4. Testimony

You see a pattern? Go get the remaining albums man!!

Actually, only "Lifeline" breaks that pattern. Perhaps it should be considered as his best Singer/Songwriter Pop record instead of his worst Prog album.

I encountered something I haven't seen before...
I can't add anything to my original post anymore, because there are too many characters in it. ;D
So this is it. Here ends my cd collection! I won't buy any more cd's now! There's no more place on the internet!

And... more than three years between this and the last post... What happened with time? Something wrong? ;D

The original limit was 25000 characters, I raised it to 50000 now. Long live the Listening Profiles.

Yay! I have added Neal Morse's and Riverside's latest albums immediately!

Thanks Peter!

A perfect excuse to buy more albums again! ;D

Thanx from me too, Cap :)

Makes life easier for me too. My LP is spread over five posts cuz of the previous character limit; now I won't need to spread more - postwise - at least not for a while ;)

Still updating my CD list (https://shattered-room.net/index.php?topic=632.msg11215#msg11215).
There were many albums missing that I actually have bought but never added to this list. I think I fixed most of it now. :)
