But Sir, Sir...
It was one of
Gelert's Hogweed's, Sir...
;D
My dad is good at mishearing lyrics. Some of his misheards are truly baffling. Witness:
Genesis - The Musical Box "all this time has passed me by"
Dad's version "now let's turn the b@st@rd out"
Genesis again - In the cage "padding out leftover room"
Dad's version "99 luft balloons" (I think he was a closet Nena fan at the time)
And just to show that like father, like daughter ...
Yes - City of Love "Like a legend the man he sharp"
My teenage self heard "Like a legend the mongoose shark"
???
misheard:
"one-zero-zero, one-zero-zero-one, S-O-S"
"one-zero-zero, one-zero-zero-one, in this dress"
actual:
"one-zero-zero, one-zero-zero-one, S-O-S"
"one-zero-zero, one-zero-zero-one, in distress"
-- Rush, "The Body Electric"
On the dutch version of popidols, one girl sang:
Strong in his pants with my fingers :o ;D
Very, very stupid ???

What was the actual song then?
Nice topic by the way. I'm sure I will post here someday ;D.
I remember that I heard a very stupid line once, can't remember which one actually...

What was the actual song then?
It is Killing me softly from the Fugees, but I think it's not originaly from them. Maybe someone else can tell us that more precisely.
The lyrics like they should be:
'Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words'
http://www.stlyrics.com/songs/r/robertaflack8341/killingmesoftlywithhissong288482.html
Roberta Flack...
"Strumming my pants with his finger" is the popular lyrical misinterpretation...
...Fnarr, Fnarr ;D
...and they're running up that road
they're running up that hill, with no clothes on...
funny that the things people hear are often what they want to hear, and often in an.... erm.... sexually hinted way... :D
New York, London, Munich, Paris...
Everybody talk about...
Rolf Harris...
Is this a good example, Peter...?
Two days running that Rolf Harris gets a mention in a Prog Rock forum - is there no end to this guy's popularity ;D
(rumours that he's currently working on a 'wobble-board' version of 'The Gates of Delerium' are said to be unsubstanciated at the time of going to press...)
;D

Incidently, a 'wobble-board' version of "Supper's Ready" was scrapped due to time restraints. ;D

Apparently, this was a thinly-disguised excuse by the suppliers of said 'Wobble-Board', vis Messrs Wickes, Homebase, Sue, Grabbit & Runne...
The real story is that, after literally months of recording, every single piece of raw-material, from Hardboard through to 10mm MDF that was supplied, spontaneously imploded during the 9/16 section....something to do with progressively-algorithmic harmonics, not to mention the Help Desk being inundated with questions as to whether a Gabble-Ratchet was 3/8" or 1/2"...! ...er it 'sez 'ere...
Letters were immediately dispatched to owners of new houses, warning them of the danger of playing Progressive Rock, lest their walls and floors collapse.
To date, the only reply received, was a question from "Mrs. Royle" of Liverpool, asking whether "trouser-chuffs" at irregular intervals would reproduce this catastrophe....
Prog - Bringing The House Down, somewhere near you... ;)

It should be noted that Mrs. Royle was sent a reply to her question, detailing that trouser-chuffs at irregular intervals will only reproduce this catastrophe if the air around the immediate area is moving in presicely 11/16 time.
