Sad news for any Magellan fans out here:
After the loss of his brother Wayne, who committed suicide while battling an incurable form of cancer, Trent Gardner, one of the Gardner-bros. suddenly passed away on june 11th.
Last thing I heard was that Trent was working on some ideas what should become a new Magellan-album.
He released some of his ideas on Youtube a while back but It appears that there won't be a new album after all. :'(
Gosh, that really IS very sad, tragic news :'(
Both brothers gone just like that, and so painfully :(

To answer Bupie's question: I may have commented on Magellan in the Room - can't remember it now - but actually I have only listened a couple of times to Symphony for a Misanthrope (2005). It didn't grip me much. I have also recently acquired Innocent God (2007). I only listened slightly to it, there were other albums that gripped me more lately ;) but on this tragic occasion I guess I should spin my two Magellan-albums ....
What I really CAN recommend is Trent's magnum opus: Explorers Club's "Age of Impact".
A terrific album !!! It has Master Petrucci on all tracks, and he is at his very best, James LaBrie on one track, D.C. Cooper on another, Billy Sheehan and Terry Bozzio as a power rhythm section on all tracks, and a whole list of further stellar musicians giving their best. This is a once in a lifetime gathering of musicians.
As I remember, there are a few Roomies who have realised the immensity of this album. But many haven't. This should be a Room staple - so here a warm recommendation to all :)

As for Magellan, I found the artwork of
Impossible Figures and
Symphony for a Mysanthrope very attractive and the latter has Steve Walsh on some vocals so I guess I will also check it out sooner or later.
Yes, very sad news.
"Test Of Wills" is a stunning album, IMHO.

One'o my fave albums. Start with the best track, nb 2: Fading Fast. Got one of Petrucci's best eva solos on that one, plus Matt Bradley sings a dream, and veeeairy atmospheric. No need to mention the power rhythm duo of Billy Sheehan and Terry Bozzio.
In fact the fabulous singing of Matt B - plus if I remember correctly, a tip from Mad - led me to Dali's Dilemma's Manifesto for Futurism, which was so good that it too ended up in my pantheon. Highly recommended *horns*
Sadly there was nothing more from DD nor MB, nothing remotely visible iac :(
Explorers Club's second and last album, Raising the Mammoth, fell way short of AoI :-\
