Video Clips?

Hey! ;D

Why doesn't Arena have videoclips? I'd like to see some visuals with the song! :)
Maybe this is a bad example but: Porcupine Tree has videoclips and even Dream Theater has them.
(There's a full Blackfield-videoclip downloadable from the official Blackfield-site ;) ).

Arena's dark songs would make GREAT videoclips! :o

Is this a good idea Clive? 8)

Clive

It's a great idea... but sadly we're back to budget.
I hope there will at least be another DVD out next year, which will capture the flavour of this latest tour.... if there is any good footage from the special Dutch gig with John and Paul, then maybe we can include some of that as well... no promises though...;)

PH

It's great to hear that you think it's a great idea. ;D

Which song would you like to make a clip for?
Maybe one of the Contagion album? Or The Visitor? Immortal? perhaps?

I'm looking forward to the DVD! :)
I've never been to an Arena gig and I really want to see what it is like!

Psst, that would make a great topic: What song would you like to see a videoclip from and how should it look?

Well, actually that can be discussed here too, right?

So in that case, go ahead!

Saryna

Shattered Room to me would be an excellent choice, because it goes through so many mood changes.  Showcases every part of the music, bandmemberwise as well, if I remember correctly.  Solomon?  I've never seen them do Butterfly Man but from the sounds of what folks described it would be a good visual feast.

Yes, and I'm sorry they did not dvd or video any parts of this tour.  Maybe they did and are just keeping it under wraps until they can actually sit down and look at it.  Good visual bands like Arena should be documented.

PH

I heard they had a video played during the contagion tour with Painted Man?
What was it like?

keyboardistmatt

They had videos playing for most of the Contagion set. ;)

They really showed a video based on the Pepper's Ghost figures??
How cool that is.
Tell me, what could you see then?

Hehehe I love it when it says that. ;D

Maybe we can do something like Marillion did/does(?)
We donate some money and the band can make a video clip.

You need a new tag below your user name, which could be "Topic-digger" or so :)

Any idea, how much a video would cost? This must be some 10-20000 Euros or so, methinks... With around 40 halfway active forum members, that would be only 500€ each :D
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

If you consider making a video to promote the release of Ten Years On, you could pick Smoke and Mirrors (or maybe Chosen) because of its radio-friendly length and take a lot of the Smoke and Mirrors DVD live footage for the video. You would just have to add a few images of members of the band (if you don't want to pay actors) in Pepper's Ghost's like suits and this is done. Would it still be up to 10 000 or 20 000 € ?

But maybe the band doesn't have the rights to use images from the Smoke and Mirrors DVD for other purposes ?

Ahh cool, another geuzennaam (honorary sobriquet Wolters' Dictionary)! :D

On the subject:
Marillion did a film which costed 100.000 pounds. That's not much for a full-lenght movie.
Say that Marillion's movie is 60 minutes and that Arena will make a videoclip of 3 minutes.
5000 pounds. Let's say that the band will take care of 2000 pounds.

3000 pounds left.

Let's say that 200 people are interested and will be willing to pay for it.
Than you'll have to pay 15 pounds.

Of course I'm sure that it's not that easy, but...

Peter

Hmmm, makes me want to try out the effect of maling all registered members. Usually I hate it when forums mail all their members, but for very special things, this might be a measure.

On the other hand, we don't even know if Clive and the guys are even willing to do such a thing, right..
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

PH

Indeed.

If Clive wants to do it he could put a comment about it on the Verglas web. With a bank account number. ;D

It's just an idea I'm sharing. It would be cool and I think it's possible.

I hope Clive is lurking the forums every now and then and can post his opinions, ideas and all that.

bluepony

Couldn't help it... had to give this thread another 'kick'...  ;D

A video clip from ANY Arena song would make such a great difference to all that MTV crap!!

I'm not sure if that work that way. It could very well be that there are standard costs (producer, editor etc...) that are higher than those 5.000 pounds. Marillion could have started with 10.000 and then run up to 100.000 because the film lasted 60 minutes.
