Kind of I'd say. :o It looks like he goes from the dot of the 'J' down to the bottom and then up again to start an 'E' which looks like a combination of 'B' and a dropped 'E' somehow. Isn't that weird I tried to describe that. :-\

Anyway, This is worth an YAY indeed. I remember that when the Xbox 1 was just released there was a problem with the power supply cable... Afther a few hours playing on your Xbox, there was a chance that there would start a fire hazard in the cable. The only good part about that was that you could order a new (and better) cable for free.
What do you mean by "We did test the wires before releasing the Xbox *slams himself on his forehead* :P

Well, I don't wear glasses, I wear contacts. ;)
Star Wars was not my cup of tea either, but I've seen episode 1, 2 and 3 and it wasn't really that bad, but it's just good for a once-watch-it-then-dump-it.
Another thing you're gonna hate me for: I think Lord Of The Rings (the movies) was a bad movie. The story can be told in less than 3 hours, but somehow they managed to get 9 hours out of it... (My family liked it though, except for my mother.)
I actually never watch movies, you know. I only watch detective series (not CSI). And I follow the news! :P
Ahh yes, YAY for detective series! *horns*

Yay for your B5 dvds! I'm right in the middle of a rewatch myself (up to the middle of season 3,
Sic Transit Vir). It ranks alongside Farscape as my favourite sf tv series ;D
Farscape rules too, but it was never on dutch tv (to my knowledge) so I only know a few episodes. I'm now at season 2 epi 20: The long, twillight struggle

No indeed it sadly wasn't. :( I saw a few episodes on the BBC and wondered why nobody here in the Netherlands picked it up to broadcast it. It's an amazing serie.

That's made me feel quite sad - it's a wonderful series, once you get past the earlier episodes where it was still finding its feet. Some of the acting in it is quite astonishing (particularly Ben Browder and Claudia Black) and Scorpius is the best sf villain on tv ever ;D
Ah,
The Long Twilight Struggle... marvellous. The bombardment of the Narn homeworld is so sad, Londo watching from his ship...
I forgot Firefly, too (how could I??) - fantastic, criminally short-lived series followed by the equally brilliant Serenity movie 8)
So a big yay for Firefly as well (he adds, desperately trying to stay on topic :D ).

Farscape
Today i, inspired as i was ;), started looking on the internet and in the big city (Utrecht), for some DVDsets of
Farscape, but sadly it was nowhere to be found. :( Even when i asked for it, some shopkeepers started to stare at me as if i was telling a ferytale. I hate that. >:(
Still no succes. I wonder if there are any... :-\

*Fairytale...

Ahum...
But that's a very sad story maddox!
By the way, I'm glad I know a shop where the shopkeepers know every Prog band. ;)
Oh shit, you weren't talking about Prog bands... You were talking about, what is it again, scifi series.
Don't know anything about them... Sorry :P
Today a YAY for me because:
- I bought Neal Morse - Testimony (Special Edition)
- I bought Neal Morse - Testimony Live (DVD)
A not-YAY for me because:
- The first disc of Testimony Live doesn't work. (The second disc works though.)
Oh and both discs work on a DVD-player in a pc, but without sound (and the first disc only works when it wants to).
Tuesday I'm going back to the shop and kill some guys get a new Neal Morse DVD.

I always lose... Recently we've gone bowling and I was in a team where I was the loser and my girlfriend was the winner! How nice is that! She's good at everything by the way. She plays better guitar than me, which frustrates me a bit, 'cause she got her guitar a year after I got mine. I fail at anything I can get my hands on except for the exams of the past weeks and of course the fact that my girlfriend is my girlfriend.
In fact that makes me a winner!

Yay, Holland beat Ivory Coast and gets through to the second round. It was very tough, but the three points count :).
2-1 for Holland...
We need more if we want to beat Argentinia for example.
If they play against Argentina like they played the first half, they will win *ola* And what an amazing free kick from Persie!
In the first half they had a lucky ten minutes in which they scored their two points. Even Ivory Coast is too strong for Holland...
But alright, a YAY for Holland then.
Hmm first half was a lot more fun to watch than the seconds half....
The seconds half we were only on the defensive side...It was more luck that Ivory Coast didn't score...
But ok....a tiny YAY for holland.... ;)
YAY FOR PENDRAGON, They were awesome last night.

My youngest turned 4 ten days ago and he too starts school very soon, on September 12th!!

Yep, in Holland children are allowed to go to school at the age of four. You don't have to 'cos at five you must but it's recomendable.
They can even go to school at the age of 3 (class 0) to get the feel of being at school. Ussually half a year before they actually have to be in school.

*peuterspeelzaal*If not: I didn't know that. :-\

No, it's a real "kleuterklas" but then for kids below the official age to go to school. That's why it's called class 0. My niece went there before the vacation, and now she'll go to 'real' school, starting in class 1. Some kids of my colleagues had the same thing.

Her view has been modified by constant playing of Arena CD's......Remember this,
QuoteYesterday mum dad and myself went out for a meal with our family. when we got in the car dad had arena on normally mum turns it off as soon as we get in the car but we told her she couldn't this time and told her it was only a short song (13mins odd ) lol then the worse things kept comming out of my mums mouth, i couldn't believe what i was hearing "it is depressing music you two are sick for listening to it, it deppresses me" then came the big debate me and dad against mum. i can fully understand and accept that she doesn't like the music but to be rude to us is very unfair.

To me the eyes are a very important physical aspect of a person, but still the overall appearence, the way a person radiates their personality outward from the inside out, and makes them attractive eventhough other people might not see it that way is what most important. But in Cheryls case I just completly fell for her personality, the way we agree on almost everything and understand eachother when we don't agree, our humour, our serious talks, the way it makes me feel when she calls me Moosey ;D YAY!

After I had my "havo-diploma", my plan was to get a "vwo-diploma", but I got really bored and now I stopped.
I already have a "havo-diploma" so it's just a matter of time before I'll do another study.
At the end of this month I'll do a short 5-month-based study in which I'll try to search what's best for me.
To seek my purpose in life! ;D
Sorry for those "dutch words" there, I don't know how to translate it properly.
It's indeed hard to translate. You'd have to explain our education system first before you do that!
So let's start, and correct me when I'm wrong :D
All kids go to basic-school until they are around 12. In their last year they have to make a big test which shows what school would fit them best. Ofcourse the parents and teachers have a say in this too, so if the kid has a bad day, they will take that into account.
After that the kid will have a couple of levels of education to choose from, depending on the abilities of the child. Those next education vary from 4 to 6 years in duration, depending if the child doesn't have to redo a year. 4 years for "lower" and "medium" (together called VMBO) and 5 years for "higher" (HAVO) and 6 years for VWO (about the same as HAVO but a year longer), Gymnasium and Atheneum. After those you can choose a study that will prepare you for a job, those also vary in years, depending on the type of study and the level. And you can do more than one.
That's about it I guess.

YAY for democracy and welfare state - Christianity in practice.
I consider the Scandinavian system to be the best in the world. What do you guys think?
Our fine prime minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen has just set elections (l, not r, Paco) for November 13.
For me, it's a choice between the Liberals and Social Democrats. We've had the Liberals for some years now, and they're very responsible with regard to foreign policy and have gotten more people into jobs, but they have also let the class differences become bigger. I find our present premier better than the SD leader, but we might need some more charity again in the Danish society.
Nicky.
Sorry, I don't really know much about the Scandinavian system... all I know is that there are some strange and funny people living there! ;)
Yeah, particularly the German tourists who come here during the hahaha summer haha, I'm laughing haha so much haha that I can't haha write hohoho (now thinkin of Sinterklas).

So we had our elections in Denmark today :)
I think it's a great occasion. Think how far we've come from the Stone Age, where guys banged each other on the head to gain power, and prob the one who ended up having the power wasnt the wisest.
Parents take their kids along, so the kids can learn to cherish democracy. Everybody's happy and smiling, not worrying too much about the drama coming after the votes have been given.

The Royal House is only expensive to our society.
Aw well... we can't always win...
Same thing here in DK, Paco.
I'd prefer a president, in the German tradition. They'v had some excellent presidents, who'v said some valuable things now and then.

Sure you don't mean our chancellors? Because the president of Germany has mostly representational functions (like for example the queen in the Netherlands and the UK) - the chancellor is head of the government... (at least if what I remember from my school days is not completely wrong)

No, I dont confuse chancellors and presidents, just like I dont mix you up with Cruella (entirely).
That's just the thing: A president should be able to rise above all party politics and nitty-gritty of practical politics and express some higher perspectives. And I find that the German system has allowed that, and German presidents have been some of the few statesmen in the world who have said some real interesting things :)

You're right.
Mad, Appy and me are Sickos, but although Nicky is still an imperator, he deserves to be called sicko indeed.
Well, you guys might be called "sickos" on this forum, but I think Nicky's a sicko in real life... that's what makes the difference! ;D
We'll need to get a new tittle: Veterinarian. We don't want a sick pony on our hands :o
I bet you're pretty happy about spelling that word right, now, aren't you? ;)
Congrats, milady! :)

Whaddaya know bout my reallife ?
Maybe I'm a longterm married man with two well-brought-up kids, living in a big mansion with an immaculately kept garden, I get outta bed every morning at 6 sharp, brush my teeth thoroughly, bath, drink my mug of coffee (no more cause that's unhealthy) and eat my two cheese breads, bind my tie properly, put on my bowler hat, and walk out the door at 7.30 sharp, take the bus, enter the main door of the firm at 8 sharp, breeze past the secs, "Mornin' Wilma", "Mornin' Elsie" (I drop the "Good" cause that's funky), go into my office, do precisely 20 cases, eat my three sandwiches at 11.30 sharp, do another 20 cases, leave the office - sorry, the main door - at 4 sharp, take the bus home, Mrs has supper ready at 6 (nice that she's so punctual (too)), I tell the family what we do with the dumb lazy unemployed proggies - oh, that's so funny - but then we have the blue ponies who sell lots of fine wheel locks, and the pac(o)asses who take loads and loads, then we watch the 11,067th installment of Family Moderob - great to recognise oneself - then at 10 sharp it's bedtime (gotta be fresh for tomorrow): a kind nightynight kiss for lady (no dirty stuff, cause that's dirty and a waste of time, as a young chap named Paco once told me), so zzzzzzzz ...
... or
maybe not ? ;D
But thanks for the compliment, Bluey ! That's all I wanted to say really :P
Nicky.
I'll opt for "maybe not"! ;D
By the way, my days of selling wheel locks are over!! *ola*
Thanks Nicky, that was for a GREAT laugh!! :D :D :D :D

Quote from: Appelmoes?? on Tue, 2008-03-25, 18:44:08Same here :) I even annoy my colleagues to death with the whole "als mij/dan ik" thingy :D
Well, not me... I'm from The Hague and there I was raised in an environment of people who talk like that. Sometimes I say "als mij", although on paper (or computer) I'm (mostly) always correct.
My spoken language is not flawless, since I am a bit of an uncertain(?) person. Uncertain is probably not the right word. Sentences are abruptly ended halfway through for example... Sometimes because I don't know what to say, or I don't find the correct words. Often I begin faltering. Strange enough, I think this has to do with perfection. I want to use a certain word, but don't know which one, there are other words I can use, but they don't really 'fit'. They match some conditions, but not all, you know...
But when typing or writing there's much more time to think about it, and then I'm almost always totally correct. And then orthography is VERY important in my book.
(I try to be as perfect in English too, but of course I realise it can't always be realised. And people like Nicky make me feel much more uncertain about it too...)
Picky Nicky >:(
But don't worry Paco, people will always be picky, just like you're picky in dutch :)

I know what you mean, Paco - or you could say, I "invented" this problem ;) - and let me tell you that it helps to concentrate on what you're saying while you're saying it (instead of thinking how you could possibly say it better/in more adequate words). It's always easier to "say" something right in writing, but when speaking I usually have the problem that my mouth is always at least half a sentence ahead of my brain, which often results in the classical "D'oh! Did I just say that aloud?!" situation... (Embarassing, but after a while you'll get used to it. ;D)

I'm not really thinking about that just now because I've been tied up with studio re-wireing, and writing new music. As a result I haven't played it at all so far this year. Learning that was just a bit of fun, really! However, I'll look into it. ;)

I noticed that too, that we agree on Going For The One but not on the albums before. That's quite a statement (http://shattered-room.net/index.php?topic=1238.msg29599#msg29599) you made, to discard those as "of historical interest only"! :o Classic albums with classic songs, timeless, not historic! Yay, I was watching a tv-program about the succesful European (soccer) Championship of Russia when I heard this familiar bit of music. After a lot of thinking I knew it: I just heard the piano-bit after the intro of Opeth's Heir Apparent on national television!

Two things:
1: The assumption that the week is going fast is a false one because there are only 7 times 24 hours in a week. Nothing more, nothing less.
It's only your mind that is playing those tricks. Busy week, in your case school, lots of other interesting stuff, maybe sports and then the day or week is done in a flash.
Trust me: don't want to depress you, but it will get worse. ;)
Like me: two kids, demanding job, household because ms. Mad also does some work and my off-home activities like Snooker for instance.
That's why i say that everyone should make the most of today. Make the best of it. 8)
2: Maybe it isn't a false idea after all.
Because after the Tsunami/flood of 2004 it has been proven that the earth is spinning a bit faster than before the big flood.
Maybe just maybe that has got a bit to do with it.
Linky. (http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2005/01/66174)
i agree with Maddox.
The more you do the faster the time goes. Shame it doesn't work the other way.

Yeah I know... I was just (trying) asking if anyone has the same experience. I remember when I was younger, (10 or so....) that everything was going sooooo slloooooowwwwww.... And indeed, when you're having fun, things were going fast. When things weren't that much fun or even boring, time was slow.
But now I feel like time is going fast, even when I'm doing boring things. This is very unhandy, since I have to remember a lot of things for study. Sometimes I have a feeling as if I cannot get a 'grip' on things. Time goes too fast, there's no time to evaluate or reflect.
I hope you guys know what I mean... It's difficult for me to say these things in a (somewhat) foreign language...

Yay!
Well, let me explain: Last week, when rehearsing with my band we wrote this new song. The only problem with it was that the transition from the intro to the first verse wasn't so good. But now that problem is solved. I just wrote a really nice riff (if I may say so myself) which fits perfectly in between the intro and the verse and makes the transition really smooth! 8)
So...Yay! *horns*

That was a surprising wording, Iggy ???
Pour down your throat ? - or what ?
When it comes to beer, I would prefer a Blue Chimay anytime. Ever tried this Fire of Life ?
Nicky.
I have had some Chimay but not Blue.
Into a glass not my throat, although it didn't last long.
Try the Blue Chimay, Iggy - great stuff *horns*
Hm, now I'm confused again. Why is it so important to pour the beer "as fast as you like" into a glass ? Does that second or so make a difference ? Does gravity play tricks on you in London ?

Have you never had to order Guinness in a pub?
First, I don't go to pubs. Second, I don't go to English pubs. Third, I don't drink Guinness (not out of principle, it's just not common in Denmark).
So I really don't have the faintest idea.
Please explain, Iggy ???

I don't have much connection to Belgian culture - where is their prog e.g. ? - but their beer - yummy *horns*
We're actually not doing that badly in Danmark. I'm not thinking of the classic Carlsberg and Tuborg pilsners, which are good for a hot summer day, but not for slow pleasure.
I recently stumbled over some excellent beers from the Danish Ørbæk Brewery on Fyn (Funen). Particularly their Barley Wine is terrific (12%), in league with the Chimay beers. Also their Red is great, and some others that I can't remember the names of now.
So if you guys have the opportunity, try out an Ørbæk beer (the "Ør" pronounced like "ear" in earnest, "bæk" like "beck" in beckon). Highly recommended, YAY !

The closest I can think of is Floor Jansen. After Forever is hardly a progmetal group, but could you imagine her taking over lead vocals in DT, SyX, or Arena ?

Now it occurs to me that "trait" would be a better word.
Iac if you compare Jamie to Russ Allen - DT and SyX are quite closely related - I'd say that Russ is more masculine, and more convincing as frontman/lead vocalist.

From Wiki - Manowar: In 1984 the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on 2 occasions. They also hold the world record for the longest heavy metal concert after playing for 5 hours and 1 minute in Bulgaria in 2008.

A derby is a (footbal) match between two clubs from the same town/village or region. In our case it was from the same town. Always special matches because some players of the opponent are on the same school or even class. It's always nice to win the match, because you have to hear is for weeks if you lose the game ;D.

Good old Arthur. I never could figure out why he wanted to marry Liza Minnelli.
I may not make it to a pub today as I've got some serious sleeping scheduled and then an engagement later this evening, but I did sample a couple of six packs of the 250th Aniversary Edition Guinness. I'd forgotten that line until recently -- always thought it was really nifty. For those that don't recognize the quote, it's from a Crash Test Dummies song. With Nicky, I assume it's a parable since he may be a lot of things, but subtle isn't one of them. ;D

I guess I sometimes am pathologically serious. I only have two settings: totally serious and very very silly. Very very silly is usually more fun, but I do understand that sometimes it's enjoyable to take something you like seriously, and when you do, you'd like people who have similar tastes/opinions to take it seriously too. I suspect part of the reason you don't always get responses is simply that some of these folks actually have busy lives (clearly I'm not one of them except in isolated bursts), so they may not spend as much time soaking up every detail the board has to offer. Or maybe they're just not quite as addled as we are. There's a reason some of us are labeled "Sickos." ;D

If it had been a babe who said that, I would have let it go, but since it's you, Cap, gotta be honest and say: YAY for Greenie (I know, he already disabused you) !
We gotta keep him misdirected (not ss) so that he can keep spending time in the Room ;) *horns*

Flying to South Africa in a week for a business trip
YAY!!!!!!
I've just come out of the studio after spending the afternoon and evening recording 2 keyboard parts for somebody's song.
I ended up recording one part 6 times using 6 different sounds, and the other part 3 times using 3 other sounds.
There are 3 orchestral sounds,
a synth pad,
and my really cool sampled Mellotron sound,
Harpischord,
Grand Piano,
and the mighty Minimoog.
Then I constructed a 'Synth Orchestra' using 4 of my synthsizers.
It was great fun!
Yay!!
*horns*
:) :) :)
*ola*
Did sound like a lot of Yay's are in order. Synth pad, harpsichord, mellotronishness AND orchestral wonders... a magic mix, if you ask me.

At noon, a workmate, slightly interested in prog rock, tells me : "Yesterday, I saw an IQ CD at the FNAC (big French music store). IQ, it's a prog band, isn't it ?"
- "Yes. What CD was it ?"
- "I don't know. It has fishing monks on the cover and it's a special edition with a DVD. They sell it 4 €. But there is only one copy".
"Fishing monks ?? 4 € ?! Hum, let's visit IQ's website"
After a brief checkout, I realized that he was speaking about Frequency SE. And I had not bought nor listened to it yet.
- "So, is it good, should I buy it ?" he added.
- "No, no, DON'T !!! I am going to buy it and I will lend it to you." So I immediately ran to the FNAC and, after a desperate search in a chaos of thousands of various cd's, I finally found it ... just in front of a documentary DVD of the making of Magenta's Metamorphosis, that was on sale for 6 €.
So YAY for me who got the whole pack for 10 €. Life has its tiny nice moments, sometimes.
Nice story. You won't regret your purchase. 4 € is an unbelievable price :o, enjoy it!
Good bargain, Bupie. ;D
Well done!
Holidays until 23 August, a big YAY for that *horns* 8).

Yay, Kamelot are releasing a new studio album in September, Poetry For The Poisoned - nice metal title :)
I'm sure stoked about it. It's long time since Ghost Opera, which I consider a real masterpiece - unique and mature *horns*
Bassist Glenn Barry left, and they got their first bassist Sean Tibbetts back in the mix. Let's hear what he's up to :)
Also got my focus on an Iraqi metal group called Acrassicauda. They were featured in a unique metal dvd Heavy Metal in Baghdad. They got a pretty interesting story to tell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrassicauda ::)
They just released their first studio album, an ep, Only The Dead See The End Of The War 8)
Hey guys, there's a lot going on in metalworld ... or is the hammock too comfortable ? ;D

Kamelot album any good Nicky ?
Actually, Funky, I'v only heard a few samples from Poetry, not enuff to form any opinion. It seems rather dark ... but that's the way Kamelot have been developing over the past years. Ghost Opera is very dark too. They probably lost some sanguine fans on that account (like Mad). But for you, Funky, with your caliginous mind (like mine), GO, and probably Poetry, are perfect choices ;)
