Zonder/Wehrkamp - If It's Real (On Spotify)

Collaboration between Mark Zonder (Fates Warning) and Gary Wehrkamp (Shadow Gallery). It's easy listening music, pop/rock, with beautiful guitar solos and catchy melodies. Do prefer a new Shadow Gallery album though ::) :).

Vangelis - "Nocturne"

I also listened a bit to Zonder/Wehrkamp but it didn't really do anything for me at that time. Perhaps another time.

Great idea! I think that's a pretty good album. Might be their most balanced album. And possibly the best as well. I see it as a perfect mix of "Milliontown" and "Experiments In Mass Appeal".
"Milliontown" was a revelation when it came out and I was absolutely in love with everything on that album. Black Light Machine is still a fantastic song. The instrumental Hyperventilate is very charming as well. The title song is not as good as I remember it if I'm being honest. There's still much to be liked there, but it goes on for too long I'm afraid. So "Milliontown" feels a little bit uneven now, thirteen years later.
"Experiments In Mass Appeal" felt, like the title says, as an experiment. I remember being a little bit disappointed. Dear Dead Days and Falling Down are pretty good though. The keyboard solo in Falling Down still gives me goosebumps, I like that sooooo much. And both Pocket Sun and Toys are nice too. (Remember that fan made video?) But all in all the album was a bit too noisy with Declan Burke screaming and not fitting in the picture (if you'd ask me) and I really missed the keyboards and synths of "Milliontown".
"Falling Satellites" has exactly that. The synths are back and it all feels very cinematic. The songs are short and precise. But still very proggy in a Jem and John kind of way.
Let's see how I feel about "Falling Satellites" in another thirteen years.

How do you rank those albums Teunis?

Now listening to:
Dream Theater - "Distance Over Time"
Not bad at all.

Haven't played the first two albums for a long time. Will play them soon to decide. Now I would have said:
1. Milliontown
2. Falling Satellites
3. Experiments In Mass Appeal
Like you said, 'Milliontown' was a revelation, it totally blew me away. That's why I put it on no. 1. To be continued ...  ;)

I have been listening a lot to Big Big Train's latest album "Grand Tour" the past weeks.
I think it's a wonderful album once again. Time for them to upgrade to Big Big Big Train.

And Fervent Mind's "Tranquilize" is also one of my most played albums on Spotify these days. I think their music is pretty unique.

Also today listened to:
Darkwater - "Human"
Pretty nice Progressive Metal album. I think Kamelot fans would like this. But I'll have to check with my brother to see if I'm right.

Jordsjø - "Nattfiolen"
Pretty nice 70's inspired scandinavic prog.

Vangelis - "Nocturne"
My turn to album when I'm in the mood for some ambient piano.

Arriving somewhere, but not here....

These days I'm listening quite a lot to the new Lonely Robot album. I think it's his best! Wow, I was really surprised because the two previous Lonely Robot releases where (good(!) but) a bit underwhelming to me. Not this one though. I was inspired to make a playlist of the best songs (according to myself) of these three albums (subject to change in due time):

Please Come Home:
01. Why Do We Stay?
02. Lonely Robot
03. Oubliette
04. Construct/Obstruct
05. Humans Being
The Big Dream:
06. Sigma
07. In Floral Green
08. The Divine Art Of Being
09. The Big Dream
10. Hello World Goodbye
Under Stars:
11. Icarus
12. Under Stars
13. Authorship Of Our Lives
14. When Gravity Fails
15. How Bright Is The Sun?

Anyone who doesn't agree with this list? ;D

Also, yesterday I received my physical copy of "Jesus Christ - The Exorcist" by Neal Morse (of course).
I think it's amazing that a musician can release two double albums with only a few months in between. And they're both of excellent quality. Well, assuming you like his style of music.

Now listening to:
Vangelis - "El Greco" (the 2007 soundtrack)
I return to this album every once in a while. It's more than just a soundtrack (I've never seen the movie). The music is very relaxing.

Don't have time (yet) to make a best-of lists of his 3 albums :)

Heard it once on Spotify. The music is great. Wasn't enthusiastic about all the singers, but will certainly listen more often. Hey, was disappointed of 'The Great Adventure' at first listening, now it's my favourite 2019 release so far  8) *horns*

Klone ~ The Dreamers Hideaway

Tool + Goijra + Karnivool = Klone.

Originated in France as Sowat in 1995.
In 1999 they changed their name to Klone.
An rough daimond, with gritty vocals, hence the comparison with Goijra, but progmetal nonetheless.
I just recently began to listen to this album and I really like what I hear.

Trying some albums I've read positive reviews of in the Dutch prog magazine 'iO-pages':

jp: Brighteye Brison - V (Halfway the album I've heard enough. The influence 'Yes', was too present for me. Not my cup of tea also ;)).
np: Lucy In Blue - In Flight (Not bad at all, will get more airplay :))

Pattern-Seeking Animals - "Pattern-Seeking Animals"
If you like Spock's Beard, you have to hear this.
This is the line-up:
Ted Leonard on vocals and guitars
Dave Meros on bass
Jimmy Keegan on drums
John Boegehold on keyboards

Yup, it's Spock's Beard without Alan and Ryo.
John Boegehold is one of the main songwriters in Spock's since Neal's departure. Glad to see him finally stepping to the forefront and getting real credit for his work!
The songs on this one are really great! I'm enjoying it very much!

Just like the last Spock's Beard album, this one is not to my liking.
A bit too poppy to my taste.
