The new Threshold album, called 'Dead Reckoning' will be released 23.03.2007! Rumor has it that it will be Threshold's heaviest album to date. They hired Swedish multi-instrumentalist/producer Dan Swanö who laid down some 'brutal' backing vocals, so I'm very curious!
Track List
1. Slipstream (4.53)
2. This Is Your Life (3.41)
3. Elusive (6.10)
4. Hollow (4.00)
5. Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams (9.44)
6. Fighting For Breath (8.16)
7. Disappear (4.17)
8. Safe To Fly (5.06)
9. One Degree Down (8.33)
There will also be a limited edition with a bonustrack: Supermassive Black Hole which is a Muse cover.
Band member Richard West commented: "It's a good Muse song and their recording is very cool, but we've made our version heavier and more powerful than the original. It works so well as a Threshold track that it sounds like Muse covered our song!"
Cheers, Tom
Great News... :D
Heard the news. Looks good to me. 8)
On www.thresh.net you can stream a radio version of the first track of the album, Slipstream. It sounds great so go check it out!!!
Cheers, Tom
hmmm, growling? :(
Don't be put off by the growls, I read somewhere that there will only be some growling on the 1st and 3rd track...And hey, they're only backing vocals, the lead vocals sounds nice and clean, don't they? ;)
Tom
I like it :) *horns*
O yeah! really good news
whahaha everytime I hear that growling, I have to laugh :D ....It's a really funny one
I can see it already: "Threshold goes screamo" ;D :P
Anyway.. this sounds really promising, I really love threshold and this one is really on my list.
Quote"Dead Reckoning could very well take the band to a new level of stardom!"
Scream (NO)
Looks like they didn't like the screams either :P
Really looking forward to this one, and if 'Slipstream' is anything to go by it should be brilliant. Dammit, so many potentially great releases to come this year!
So next friday will be the release! I'll be looking forward to it
There is already download single Pilot In The Sky Of Dreams available here (http://www.nuclearblast-musicshop.de/album_info.php?album_id=99991) for only 2.99 Euro. Radio version you can hear on www.thresh.net (video is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qw1M-e0CeQ)) is great but for progmetal fans I recomend full version (9:44). It's fantastic with many changes, solos... I love both version.
As I know there is only some growling on two songs Slipstream and Elusive. I heard both and even I don't like growling I like it in this form and here it sound interesting. I'm really looking forward to full album.

Me 2!
I can't wait for Dead Reckoning either, till now I heard just good reviews! So far I liked both Pilot and Slipstream, even though they're just shorter versions :)
Who is interested to see new video clip (which is more than professional), visit Youtube, you won't regret!!
Threshold rocks... *horns*
I just bought the album and listened to it once. It's great! The Muse-cover is also very good, although, at this point, I still like the original better. But that may change when I heard it more often... ;D
Anyway, GREAT album!!! *horns* *horns* *horns*
Cheers, Tom
:)
It's more than great to read this, I can't wait to hear it!!!
ME WANTS IT!! *horns*
The precious is ourrrrs... :D ;D
I think this is already, after only a few spins in my cd-player, one of my favourite releases of 2007 so far (next to Pain Of Salvation's Scarsick)! Really an impressing album!
Tom
p.s: Just listen to the end section of 'One Degree Down'. what a BRILLIANT guitarsolo!!!
*horns*
Have i said recently that it's a great album?
Except the Muse cover. Personally i don't like that one too much. :-\ Pilot is one of the best songs along with One Degree Below. *horns*
Very good album!
It's not my favourite by Threshold (I think!), but still very good!
Favourite tracks are Pilot in the sky of dreams, Fighting for breath and Safe to fly.

I'm listening Dead Reckoning few times per day since Tuesday and can't stop it. It's another masterpiece in Threshold discography, great music from start to end including Muse cover. For me Dead Reckoning is album of the year so far.
After much listening I must conclude it's another GREAT album from Threshold, the best release of this year definitely! Every song is a masterpiece, especially Muse cover is done trillion times better than the original...
Threshold is the leading prog metal band in my opinion and they deserve worldwide recognition, after so many years on the scene they're still in some inexplicable shadow...
I actually don't agree about the Muse cover.
In Threshold's version, they've removed a few vocal harmonies, and I think those harmonies makes the original song, so Threshold's version is definitely missing something there..
Silhouette
Aha, Threshold's version is definitely missing that completely boring side which Muse one has :D
Luckily it's much more powerful, in fact I think those harmonies can be even better recognized in Threshold's interpretation for the sound is clearer and sharper, therefore more appropriate to transmit some energy...
If somebody's interested there is great interview made with Richard West on Metal Cast (http://www.metal-cast.com/), members of the forum came up with the questions so it's quite original ;)
Supermassive Black Hole is only one song I know from Muse, because I wanted to compare both versions. I prefer Threshold, because there are better vocals, more energy and overall it sounds better for me. Original sounds more electronic, but like some sort of uncomplete demo (now I'm talking about sound only, it's still interesting song).
Oh but you should really listen to Muse! :o
Start with the album "Absolution" which is the best in my opinion.
It's got a lot of piano, and amazing guitar and drum. There's also the dramatic vocals, that's the trademark of Muse.
Matt Bellamy (voice, guitar, piano's, keyboards) is VERY talented!
From what I heard Muse really wasn't impressive enough to push me listening some more...
As related to Threshold another excellent interview was made with Karl Groom at Classic Rock Newswire (http://classicrocknewswire.blogspot.com/), anyone interested in this genuine guy or new album should read it :)
I know some Muse songs, and their not the kind of music I like *shrug* I have a very fixed taste in music.
Actually, before i ever heard the Muse-cover by Threshold i never ever heard a track of Muse. What i've heard until now isn't satisfying me a bit.
Don't like it. Sorry, just a taste. :-\ ;)
But...
Supermassive Black Hole is a very nice song indeed. *horns*

That's soooo funny, 'cause I like Muse a lot, but don't really like Supermassive Black Hole...
To me songs like "Showbizz", "Muscle Museum", "New Born", "Stockholm Syndrome", "Starlight" (I think I mentioned at least one song of each album now) are much better!
And another great interview on Usaprog Music with Karl Groom, it can be even downloaded in Mp3 format, lasts 30 minutes! ;D

hmmm, growling? :(
It's hardly growl. It's more like hearing my 15-year old cat "growl".
If you wanna hear real growl, then listen to Opeth's Ghost Reveries. The growl there is not my taste, and I don't understand why Mikael does so much of it, considering that he has great clean vocals; but there's so much other fantastic stuff going on on GR(owl) that I enjoy very much listening to it.
Nicky.
Mikael's growling (grunting) is one of the few I actually like. I erally dislike Withing Tempation and After Forevers growls.

:o Threshold singer pulls out of upcoming festival shows :o
16 July 2007
Threshold's singer Mac has astonished his fellow band members by deciding not to perform at this weekend's Metal Camp and Earthshaker festivals in Slovenia and Germany.
Fortunately the band's previous singer Damian Wilson has come to the rescue and will perform at the festivals with the band for the first time since 1997.
Damian Wilson is currently lead singer for the band Headspace who recently supported Ozzy Osbourne for UK shows including Wembley Arena.

That's odd. :-\
He must have a good reason to do that.

To quote myself, i found some answer which to the riddle.
Here it goes:
Quote from: Richard West on the Threshold-forum17th July 2007 by keyboardist Richard West on the Threshold forum
Mac was due to arrive in England on Saturday for band rehearsals, but on Saturday morning he sent us a short email saying he has to get on with his life and he's not coming. It was totally unexpected and we're all shocked by the news. Mac won't answer our phone calls so we can't get any more information from him. With two festivals to perform next weekend our only option was to cancel the shows or find a replacement singer. Fortunately our old singer Damian Wilson was able to step in and help out, he's now very busy learning the new material in time for Friday's show in Slovenia. We don't know what the long-term solution is, our focus right now is on the two festivals, we'll see how they go and take it from there.
And now the one we've been waiting for:
Quote from: Mac on the Threshold-forum21st July 2007 by ex singer Mac on the Threshold forum
Sorry it took so long to give this stament. But, I`m also sorry it took me so long to realise I had to get on with the rest of my life and eventually make a decent living. I know the timing was bad and I`m very grateful to Damian for standing in for me. Unfortunately it`s absolutely impossible to live on fresh air alone. Next time you listen to a Threshold album picture my girlfriend having to work overtime to make it possible for me to go on tour, not to mention all the jobs I chose to give up to continue with Threshold. Once again, the timing was bad.... I was up all Friday night (13.07.2007) considering this and decided it was time to support my family 100%. For all the Fans out there take what you have and enjoy it (I know I was devasted when Led Zeppelin came to an end). Thanks for all your support, all the best for Threshold and Threshold Fans for the future, Cheers Mac
I can understand his decision but indeed the timing couldn't be more worse. :-\
Sad.
But good that Damian fills in. ;)
Shit man... first Martin Orford, now Mac...
There's a lot of people going out of bands lately...
Damian should get back with the band to do at least one new studio album again. That would be fun.
And then Threshold should go seek another singer, but I was very much getting used to Mac...
I wonder how Damian will pull off those Mac songs.
Very sad news :( I think Damian is a better singer then Mac, but for Threshold's sounds Mac was better imo. I hope they can find a good replacement.
Damn this sucks :'(
I was already looking forward to see them in de Boerderij :(
Let's hope this will go like with Glynn: Damian does the tour, and after that he also appears on the new album ;D
Agree with Appelmoes??, after this shock the only lucky solution would be that Damian saves us.....
Sorry to hear this. But since I'm a big Damian fan, I really hope he will do the Dutch gig as well!
What a shame! I think I'll pass on the gig in 'De Boerderij' simply because I don't really like Damian's voice so much whilst I LOVE Mac's... :'(
Tom
QuoteI think I'll pass on the gig in 'De Boerderij' simply because I don't really like Damian's voice
My reaction was the opposite. Since Dead Reckoning didn't bring much 'news' to me, I was in doubt of going.
Considering Damian one of the best singers around, this will be a big YES in my agenda!
It is at least interesting to hear Damian sing the new Threshold songs.
If he won't do a studioalbum with Threshold he could always do one of those special albums. An album with Mac songs performed by Damian. Just like Mac did on Replica with a song originally by Damian.
Hehehehe. ;D
I'm also very sad to hear this, because I consider Mac a fabulous singer, one of the absolute best rock singers, and he worked very well in Threshold. Another of the great things about Mac is that he's so modest about his talent, not at all a primadon. He was so much fun on stage. However, I think the most important thing is that Mac gets his life together again. He seems to have been rather run down lately. I know that Threshold have had a hard time through the years, mainly because they never really broke through, although fortunately lately they've gained a lot more positive interest; and the hard life has been a major reason for several of their excellent members leaving them, not so much personal and musical differences.
It seems that in this case too the relationship between Mac and the other guys remains friendly and respectful.
I can only wish both Mac and Threshold the best. Both have given us so much wonderful music.
Nicky.
Amen :)
Yes, Appelmoes, that's my fave perfume for men, i.e. for myself (A-men, herewith recommended).
Nicky.
Ah men!

Great News, at least for me, ;D Damian Wilson is going to perform the Rest of Threshold Iour! *horns*
The rest too? Awesome news 8)
So who's going to anyone of the forthcoming gigs. I'm planning to see the one on sunday the 2nd, but I'm a bit put off by no less than 3 (!!) support acts. I'm afraid I will have to leave before the end of Threshold in order to get some sleep before going to work.

September 15th, Summersend Festival. Really looking forward to it, it will be my first Threshold gig.
It will be great. I saw them last night and they played a 1,5 hour set (way too short). It was great, great, great to see Damian back. He did soooo well on most of the tracks.
Some of the newer material sounded as if it was written for him! And the return of a legendary oldie was truly awesome!
Don't miss 'em.

I understand that Damian is a nice singer but to say that you don't miss Mac is a bit unfair to him, don't you think?

Paco,
I think what JJ II meant when he said "Don't miss 'em" was "Go and see them"...

Yeah, Mac's departure is a sad thing, but Damian is VERY capable of filling his own old boots,...

I have no words... Mac-Threshold was so undoubtedly cool! In my opinion his voice suited Threshold much more. (Damian's voice is absolutely great too! But not for Threshold for some inexplicable reason...)
