Kev

As a new convert to Arena, I would be interested to know if there is a song list for the Reading gig?

Hi Kev, welcome to the ARENA forum. Make yourself comfortable :)

Don't know anything about that songlist... do you mean the upcoming gig on April 12? Surprise Surprise, I'd say :)
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

Clive

Well... one thing I can say is we are touring with a very different set to the one we have used for a while.
No plans to play any 'new material' from the next album, since writing is still in the early stages.
However... we have bowed to the request to play Moviedrome again... gulp!!

Clive,

Are you planning to record any of the shows from the upcoming tour for either an official release, fan club only release or perhaps even just for a digital download ??

...for it is a human number,
It's number is six hundred and sixty six.

Kev

Clive, guys, Thanks for the info. I have been playing peppers Ghost almost non stop since I got it and as I travel a fair bit, this is really a lot. It has been many years since I fell in love with an album on first hearing it. Some times makes it harder to get into past work. So I have a question (maybe now in the wrong forum and may be answered else ware but)...What would be the bands top ten tracks and what would be the fans? If there is some form of consensus on this then it makes it easy to play 'catch op'

Well, Kev (and Paco), The Shattered Room is the closest you get to an official Arena chatforum, so it's here you find the hardcore Arena fans. There's lots of useful info (and freakish stuff) here, both on Arena, other groups, and pretty much any conceivable human thought, habit and activity. Our Captain has organised things excellently, so I think that it should be easy to find the stuff you're interested in. There's an excellent search facility too.

Else you're welcome to ask us Senior Roomies about anything you want - no need to bother Clive with that. Let him concentrate on the next album *horns*

Hey, cheer up, Clive! That means you only have to rehearse two more songs, and you have a full concert with encore! ;D

I was actually just thinking earlier today "Will they play Moviedrome....?"

I'm spending the day in Reading now as I've been made redundant from my job  :( and wont have any time constraints.

I plan on going to "The Hobgoblin" which i believe is John Mitchell's local!

Anyone know any sights worth seeing in Reading?
What will I be, When Winter comes again, and were wrapped up in furs, and life has begun again

Well, Marcello, don't ask Guig:

Reading is an absolute shitehole and if I never have to go back there it will be too soon.

Instead: "There are several breweries at Reading, the largest of which is that of Messrs. H. and G. Simmonds, who contract for the whole of the refreshments on the South-Eastern Railway; and next to them are the good old ales of Mr. Dymore Brown."

Source: The Illustrated London News, July 8, 1882, p.45

That should do it, Marcello.

Give us a beer review from Reading !  :D

Here in the Netherlands you can buy a beer legally at sixteen.

Well, it's certainly a kudo to Reading that Kate Winslet was born and grew up there. Disregarding her role in the mushy Titanic, she has made her mark in Heavenly Creatures, Eternal Sunshine, Finding Neverland, and several other quality films.

Ricky Gervais is from Reading too, so it must be a funny place, as that guy's an absolute gas.

So, a skål to Reading.

Marcello, do you actually live nearby ?

And if you remember on the first season of Extras, Kate Winslet guess starred. (And of course you know Ricky did Extras).

Nicky007

Yeah, Jeff, I saw that. It was real funny (Wiki, Kate Winslet, my bold):

"Winslet also appeared in an episode of BBC's comedy series Extras in August 2005, as a satirical version of 'herself'. She memorably told Andy and Maggie, the two characters who star in the series, that she was doing a film about the Holocaust because she was tired of losing out on Oscars, as she's been nominated four times, and that everyone who does a film about the Holocaust wins an Oscar. She also (while dressed as a nun) was shown giving phone sex tips to the romantically challenged Maggie. Ricky Gervais (who is a native from the same town as Winslet, Reading) later said on NPR that she was his favorite guest star.[4] Her performance in the episode did lead to her being nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Comedy Series, but she did not win."

KW sure is a special person. So are Ricky and Ashley. I'v enjoyed all the stuff that Ricky has done. Real English humor, the best in the world  *horns*

Goes well with Belgian beer  *horns*

I also find reading good. In fact, I read a lot of books, but that sentence there had me groping wildly for reality!!! :D

Nicky007

Yeah, Deenie, I noticed that your English is surprisingly good (better than Paco's - create some dialectics here). You even got a big pool of slang and colloquialisms. Where did you pick that up ?

The slang is prob from drummin all over the world ("you g*d* m*f*")  ;D

Ncky.

Deenfan

Well, you noticing the quality of my English is proof that your own is very good!

;D

To be honest, I wasn't making fun of wagners sentence. Quite the contrary, I was having a laugh at how I was thrown off completely somewhere around the word "gervais's", which isn't a word, of course, but a name. Not having heard about the fellow, I didn't recognise it as a name since it wasn't a capital G at the front. Maybe I was already stumbling from the lack of an a in there when this threw me off balance, and that's why I toppled over completely when I got to the word "Quebecois" - having never seen that before either.

Far be it from me to make more fun of other than of myself. Self-irony... -that's the dog's bollocks!!!

To answer your question, I'm an anglophile, and I know a lot of people over there. Also got a few friends in the US.

And I think I've read a book in Norwegian probably twice the last fifteen years, whereas I've devoured probably two undred in English in the same period. It's probably sad, really...

That's what I was hopin you'd say  ;D

Well I'm an anglo-american-phile too (news guys?), and in general I'm interested in languages and linguistics.

I learn languages by reading great literature in the original languages and spending lots of time looking up words (i.a. Dictionary.com and WordReference.com). Highly recommended !

OK, that surprises me. He's now well-known even in Denmark. His series Office and Extras are really great, particularly for anglophiles.

I appreciate self-irony very much. I think I have lots of it myself. People like Hitler and Saddam lacked it entirely, and they sure were f*d up, and f*d up the world.

Hey Deenie, dont worry about that. I didnt read much Danish literature the first fifty years, except for the obligatory school stuff and some Johannes V. Jensen, but now I'm enjoying very much reading Peter Høeg, Johannes Møllehave, and some other Danish authors.

There'l come a day when you'l start appreciating your roots more. I dont know of any authors from the North Pole, but I know of some excellent ones who grew up in Oslo   ;D
