Title: Atari Request!
Post by: Clive on Tue, 2005-03-01, 08:57:08
OK... this may seem a bit weird, but does anyone out there by any chance still own an Atari Computer?  :)

When Karl and I first started Thin Ice studio, that was the computer we used to run Cubase (a sequencing programme).
The problem is that I have a whole bunch of material sitting on Atari formatted disks which I can't transfer onto PC or Mac without reading them on Atari first.  :(
This is a shame because there may be some interesting bits of material that as yet have never been used.... I'd also like to reclaim the sequences from some of our early albums (SOAT/Shadz etc).

I know this is a long shot, but there's always a chance.......

You could try the following link - may be of use

You could possibly try an Atari emulator to read those discs.  I have not tried this myself but there is a program called Gemulator that runs on a windows PC that emulates the atari hardware and claims to be able to read those old atari discs too.

Check out this site for more info:

If that fails I think I have an Atari STe in my loft, but i have not tried using it for years.  You're welcome to borrow it provided I can find all the leads.

Actually just a file explorer. Might be better than trying to run the emulator. Just copies the files off the Atari disks on to the PC.

If you or Karl want to drive to Bicester, then I've got 2 x Mega4's...you can borrow the back-up / redundant one for a while....and I've got a spare SM125 monitor to run with it.

You've still got my number...?

Hi Clive,
I have an old 1Mb 1040ST with an atari hi-res monitor I used to run Cubase on if you're still stuck.

No, I moved on up to full strength cigarettes....  ;D

Sorry Clive, couldn't resist...

I've done a bit of lighting and sound engineering on-&-off, over the years. But after my back injury in 1994, I fell into doing a "proper job" - industrial control systems with automation and robots and stuff...

But if you're planning on playing our local pub, I could probably rustle-up a couple of parcans on sticks, a mirror-ball, and a tastless selection of Maplin "Professional" sound-to-light disco boxes...

...truly, a veritable bargain at £1500-00 + rider + PDs for the night...  ;)
