Some of you might be happy to know that I inducted Guilt Machine into my Prog Pantheon, and three of the songs On This Perfect Day (which it is for GM) to my Classic Songs - check'm up  *horns*

I think Guilt Machine is a very cool project/band. Let's hope they make more albums.

I'm truly impressed: Lots of good melody, intensity, atmosphere, interesting lyrics, and I'm very much impressed by Jasper Steverlinck' singing - he masters the English language and has a lot of expression, wonder where he comes from (Marshland, of course, but I mean musically)  8)

You'll find all of that in Arjen's other projects as well.

And I'm still ahead of you, Paxi, with the length of my LP (both Long P* and Listening Profile thread)  ;D

I'm not playing, Nicky. This kind of competitive behaviour occurs mostly in toddlers. ;)
It's sad that every forum seems to have an old grey man full of wisdom, but yet we're left with you... You're probably the oldest toddler around. ;D

Just realised that I was missing Anathema in my pantheon list :o

Of course they'r pantheon - aint they, guys ;)

Maybe I should also sum up on my latest pantheon additions: Bal-Sagoth, Guilt Machine, Guns n' Roses, Hacride, Slipknot.

Just in case you guys didn't know, all these groups are pantheon >:(

Isn't your pantheon a bit overcrowded? Do you love each band up there equally?
Perhaps it's time to kick some out of there and find a new hierarchy order system. ;)

I'd kill myself first :'(

Well, maybe not ... but if I'd start making a prioritised list, I'd spend the rest of my life moving bands around ;D

But OK, now that you asked:

Beatles - absolute first !!! They created rock and prog  *horns*

My top league, in chronological order: Beatles, Floyd, Zep, Yes, Queen, Dream Theater, Outworld, Bal-Sagoth 8)

But that doesn't mean that there aint songs by other artists up there ;)

Interestingly, the 80's are devoid of any topleague group. We had to wait till the 90's for DT to get their act together ???

"Have you ever really been touched ?" Yes, every day, by my pantheon bands :-*

So I think I'll just leave it at that :-X

Nobody really understands my passion for music :'( - well you, if anyone, Paxi :)

Added Textures to my pantheon, on the basis of their fabulous album Dualism (their latest, from 2011)  *horns*

You Marshies aint so dumb ;)

So, in my book(keeping), the frontline prog countries are: Britain, USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, France, Poland, Austria, Israel, and Brazil.

Strangely, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, and the Czech Republic seem to be behind - or ?

Added John Lennon to my Pantheon  *horns*

I'v been slow in catching up with his things.

Mac otoh I'm rather in doubt about. He's a great person, no doubt, and what he did in Beatles is uberpantheon - of course - but his music post-Beatles seems rather middle-of-the-road to me :-\

Added some great Bob Dylan songs to my Classic Songs list. Dylan's influence on rock and prog is humongous  *horns*

I disagree.

Yeah me too. Bob Dylan's influence on Prog is minimal. Of course some individual people (Neal Morse for instance) are influenced by him, but not because he's so proggy or something. He's a Folk singer/songwriter and as such there is some influence to be found in the Folk department of Prog, but Prog Folk is not a very big genre. And I don't think Nicky listens to Prog Folk. ::)

But it's hard to convince Nicky of his evil actions. ;)

Am I right Nicky? :-*

Of course not, Paxi: Bob Dylan's impact on my generation in the Western World is second only to The Beatles. The difference is mainly that everybody was listening to Beatles, while with Dylan, interest was restricted to mainly the educated middle class. But nobody could be ignorant of Dylan, he was all over the place. Think of songs like Blowin' In The Wind, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, The Times They Are A'Changin', Highway 61, Desolation Row, John Wesley Harding, Lay Lady Lay, Knockin' On Heaven's Door - man, everyone and his brother (in my generation) knows these songs.

All rock musicians of my generation know how much they owe Bobby Boy. Any established rock group will make a cover of a Dylan song now and then, and sing it with great passion - I guess with the exception of our household groups Arena and Dream Theater ;)

Whilst it's true that Dylan's music was not prog, his lyrics created revolutions - and that's beyond prog. Probably no other musician, not even Pete Seeger, had that impact on the 60's youth to transform society.

And Bobby is a real cool guy. His fame has not gone to his head. He travels around, meets everybody eye to eye, and sings his wonderful songs to anyone who wants to listen  *horns*

And forget about "prog folk", Paxi ::)

And guys, thanx for givin me more lead ;D

Because despite Dylan's well - earned legendary status he's not the best singer, is he?

He's not as bad as Shane MacGowan though. He couldn't carry a note in a bucket!

You don't have to be a good singer to be prog, right?

Why, are you thinkin of becoming "a singer in a rock'n'roll band", Paxi ?

You can pop right up from the marsh - and grrrooowl ;D

- or be marsh-mellow - but then it's best if you actually sing well :D

Bupie, you remember "I'm just a singer in a rock'n'roll band" ?

This is a pretty silly story, but wiki-true ;)

MacGowan got his first taste of fame in 1976 at a concert by British punk band The Clash, when his earlobe was damaged by Jane Crockford, later to be a member of The Mo-dettes. A photographer snapped a picture of him covered in blood and it made the papers, with the headline "Cannibalism At Clash Gig". Shortly after this, he formed his own punk rock band, The Nipple Erectors, later renamed "The Nips".

He should be happy that she didn't bite a meter lower - ouch >:(
