I just stumbled across a video from a song from Seventh Wonder's new album 'The Great Escape' (to be released later this year):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sRDa-xTfwg

What a track! Melody and technique, it's all there. The singing ain't too bad either... *horns*

Tom

Whoa, thanks for the link. I like their Mercy Falls pretty much. This song is again.... brilliant. A classification like "Metal Pop" comes to my mind.... I must run... :)
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

OK then  :)  I started gettin thougths of mutiny  :P

Interesting, from Wiki, Seventh Wonder: "The Great Escape is the forthcoming [fourth coming, nb  ;D ] fourth album by Swedish progressive metal band Seventh Wonder. It was recorded over the Spring and Summer of 2010, and is expected to be released in late fall 2010. It is the first album by the band to feature a track longer than 10 minutes long. It is also the last album recorded with Johnny Sandin on drums, as he left the band due to personal reasons after the recording and subsequent shows. Alley Cat is the first Seventh Wonder song to have an accompanying music video from the band."

Got that on my SL for sure  *horns*

Hey guys, are the Swedes takin over ? - SW, Opeth, Cloudscape, PoS, A.C.T, Scar Symmetry, Andromeda, Dark Tranqillity, Katatonia.

Guys ?  ;)

The Butterfly Man

JP: The Jelly Jam - The Jelly Jam 2

Cool John Myung sideproject! 8)

NP: Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory

This is the album that introduced me to progmetal some ten years ago. It's still one of my favourite albums in the genre.

I've been listening almost exclusively to DT for days now, so I thought it would be nice to (try to) rank the studio-albums. This is how things stand today:

1: Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory
2: Octavarium
3: Black Clouds & Silver Linings
4: Train Of Thought
5: Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
6: Images And Words
7: Awake
8: Systematic Chaos
9: Falling Into Infinity
10: When Dream And Day Unite

Man, that was hard! :o

There will be white clouds beyond the hills...

Interesting, Tom. Scenes is also my fave DT-album, not only cuz of the music but the whole story  *horns*

Jordan came in with a big splash  8)

Else I'd have SC further up (2 or 3) ... but fortunately I don't have to rank'm. I think I'd put'm all in first place - except I&W (2,  :P Bups) and WDADU (3)  ;D

NP  The Alley Cat video - on stuck-on mode  *horns* *horns* *horns*

I think that what makes this song so BIG is Andreas Blomqvist's driving bass ... and of course those great special SW punctuations ... and of course Johan L's wonderful soloing  8)

8) Funky

What's the early stuff like ?

Btw you should try Enslaved. They'r a bit like Amorphis. Their Vertebrae (2008) is a great album with lotta variation, even some Floyd-like stuff  ;)

I saw that they have released a new album Axioma Ethica Odini. Got that on my SL  :)

NP  Gojira:  The Way Of All Flesh

Judgement pending on this one, it's quite a challenge. Probably the darkest album in my collection, even a notch darker than Nevermore.

In fact it's about death and dying, and how dismal life has become on this earth. If one gets into this line of thinking, life really can seem dismal. Humans are sooooo egoistic, torturing and killing each other both to satisfy their own selfish desires and even for pleasure, torturing and killing their fellow living beings and chewing on their corpses and carrying their furs (even tho we now have excellent fauxs both for eating and wearing), flying off on mindless holidays etc etc.

Now if you think that Gojira are your usual battering growly death metal band by the dozen, then you'r entirely wrong. These guys are some of the most intelligent and innovative musicians around. In fact, on top of this they'r courageous, dealing so frankly with this somber subject. Also the music is much more varied than with most other so-called death/dark bands.

But going past so many taboos puts high demands on the listener. In fact I'm hard put to think of Roomies who would take up this challenge, maybe Funky, maybe Iggy (ya gotta get past Nevermore to get to Gojira) .....  ;)

Anyone said that prog musicians are the prophets of our times ?  8)

Bups, you'r really movin on. Great  *horns*

And you got somethin to be proud of:

NP  Gojira:  The Way Of All Flesh

My judgement has fallen on this one: Fully accepted, great extraordinary album  *horns*

And Gojira go jira, no I mean: go to my pantheon  8)

What I wanted to make sure is that they arent nihilistic/ungodly. And now I can say with certainty that they aint  :)

What they instead appear to me is theosophical, and in an incisive way. As I wrote earlier, they deal with death and dying, rebirth, the (sometimes) upward going spiral, and the deterioration of spirit (ungodliness, materialism, carnage, vulgarity) presently on earth. And WOW, how they splash it in yer face. Guys, this is the sorta stuff we gotta "listen" to in order to get spirit rising again. Down into the black "mouth of madness", get transformed, and then rise again like the Bird of Phoenix (following Christ).

OK, nuff (alle)gories now  ;D

Must say that Adagio and Gojira have substantially changed my picture of contemporary French culture. While the Italians are still operaing up their metal  :-\ and the Spaniards - well, anythin progmetal goin on there ? - these two French groups are top-league progmetal and convincing in their use of English, sooo, all kudos, we gotta keep our eyes on French Metal now  *horns*
