I spun Paradox Hotel a coupl'o times, and it didnt really grip me. But I could hear that the guys are excellent musicians and serious and all that, so I'm willing to try'm out some more. Stardust seems to be an album to get.

Nicky.

I really like Space Revolver. I mean it's got a track called the chicken farmer song. How could you go wrong!

Bird flu?  ;D

Let's get one thing straight.  EVERYTHING The Flower Kings have ever done is excellent, and I'll fight any man who dares to say otherwise.  ;)
On a more serious note, another one I'd highly recommend is 'Instant Delivery' which is a live set and can be had as either DVD or DVD+CD packages.  It's a top-notch performance from the band in a more stripped-down form and includes Stardust, amongst others.

NP: Queen - Queen II

Better warn you, Steve:  When you get to Sheer Heart Attack (Queen III), you better get yourself a sturdy chair  *horns* *horns* *horns*  (for the album, not the chair)

My fave Queen together with Made In Heaven.

Flower Power is a must have too, Nicky.
It holds a tiny song called Garden Of Dreams.

It's only 59 minutes long.  ;D

Riverside:  Rapid Eye Movement  (title song)

One of the best instrumentals I'v ever heard  *horns* *horns* *horns*

With this piece, you can pretty much do without all other current electronica !

Steve Hackett - Live Archive CD2: 70s.

Not the same 70s set I was playing the other day.  This one has an excellent (if slightly silly) 'I Know What I Like' which includes a bit of a sea-shanty style thing in the middle.

I personally consider REM as the best Riverside work they've ever done.  8)
The best track would be The Same River but that one is on Out Of Myself.

Are you sure it was a decision based on money?

No, Mad, I actually know very little about what happened there. I'v only read a few snippets about it. They seem to indicate, as you also mentioned,  that the old Yes guys pretty much pushed Trevor out. I remember reading a quote from Jon where he said that the Rabin-period albums were too guitar heavy for his taste, and that he very much missed Rick's creative keyboards.

That's where I hoped that Iggy could remedy our ig(gy)norence  ???

But I'm used to people not answering my questions  :'(  ;D

And maybe I ask too much. I guess that people my age oughtta settle down and be comfortable with the knowledge we have - and stick to Elvis and Beatles  :-X

... I wouldn't consider National Treasure 1+2 and Armageddon as bad movies. I didn't even know he did the soundtrack for Armageddon but that aside.

Trevor Rabin did the soundtrack for Armageddon. I read it in Wikipedia.

Yeah OK, Mad, it's an age matter. Even I enjoyed Bond movies when I was a teenager. But at 53, I can't any longer watch movies with zero philosophical content, like Armageddon and National Treasure. It would be like going to a Madonna concert:  lots of great visuals, but zero music.

I'v wasted a lot of time in my life on a lot of trash. Man, I get all dizzy thinkin bout it  ::)  You guys have better odds for gettin somewhere ....

And the very high standards in prog can give you inspiration for all other human activities. Aint that so, Steve ?  8)

To answer the above question re Trevor

I think the band drifted apart. I think Trevor wanted to get into film scores.

here is a link to a Trevor Rabin interview if you are interested.

Thanks Iggy. Been reading that nifty NFTE article with great interest. Trevor always seemed like a nice guy to me, and this article confirms it. And he still seems to be good friends with the Yes guys, which I'm happy about.

Nonetheless we've lost a great musical talent. This guy was up to some extraordinary things !  And now he's doing B- and C-films   :'( :'( :'(

NP  Riverside:  REM - Disc One now (on repeat)

Have to cheer myself up with some first-class prog   *horns*

Phideaux - Chupacabras

OK, Mad, this time they're more of a concept to me. They were listed under Rapid Eye Movement, "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought".

Could you describe them and compare them to other groups ?  And what are their lyrics like ?  :)

Do you wanna tell us what they're like, Stevie ?

NP  Yes:  Big Generator

Imm definitely more Yes and better than 90125. And Talk is even more.

I surmise that it became a choice between Steve and Trevor. And we know who won (not taking sides here)  :-\

That is such a marvellous album. One of the best i've heard this year.
It's typical Pineapple but i never get the feeling 'hey, i've heard this before'.  8)
