NP  Annihilator:  Metal

I'm not much of a thrash fan, but Jeff Waters & Co. rise above the mass of thrash bands  *horns*

Their Metal has already become a classic album  8)

The drummer on Metal and several other Annihilator albums is Mike Mangini, a name you guys may have heard before  ;)

Here's a great song, where it of course adds to it that Jeff Loomis is in the mix. When one knows his style well (as I do), one can identify it in this song  :)

First run. Man, this is intense stuff  *horns*

Paxi, you may think that I'm overly critical of you, but I actually enjoy our discussions, and as a matter of fact, you'r currently the only person here I can engage in dialogue with  :)

Several Roomies have stated that the Room should be kept alive, but what is that statement worth if one doesnt make an effort ?  Anyone can find ten minutes to write something personal  ;)

Hell - Human remains. Real old school classic metal sort of Priest/Maiden which is great fun  8)

Pineapple thief - Someone here is missing - another stormer of an album from TPT kind of prog meets
Radiohead ish but not quiet. Very modern sounding

Wolverine - Communication lost - brilliant dark progressive album with a hint of katatonia

That OK Nicky  ;)

Today:
Shadow Gallery - Carved In Stone
Arena - Contagion
Neal Morse - Testimony Two
Gazpacho - Missa Atropos
Nemezis - Nemezis
Ben Craven - Great & Terrible Potions

np: Nordagust - In The Mist Of Morning

The latter two albums on http://www.progstreaming.com/ . Like mentioned before by several people, a nice way to discover new (prog) music. I'm impressed by the Wolverine and Nordagust album I've heard over there, now on my 'to buy' list  ;).

That's a fine album, yes sir!  8)

Quotenp: Nordagust - In The Mist Of Morning

I can't really get through that one.
I already have that album for some time now but what troubles me the most are the vocals.
Really can't stand them.  :-\

Yes, I've seen that website and it looks very interesting to me. I will check out some  albums right away!

First is: Ben Craven.
I will let you know what I think of it.

Not bad! Sounds like a lost Pink Floyd album.
I need to listen to it more than once, because while it's good, I think (for now) it's not great.

Can anyone tell me more about Ben Craven? I don't know him at all. Never heard of him and here he is, putting out a professional album with artwork by Roger Dean.
Am I missing something?

I'd say that you're not really sure yet, not? ;)

The album is indeed quite good though it doesn't remind me of Floyd at all.
The music, that is.
I don't really like his singing capabilities.

I've heard that album too! I thought it was really good. Funny things is that I was especially positively surprised about his voice. He reminds me very much of Phil Collins. I haven't listened much to Big Big Train, but from what I've heard, the new singer sounds like Collins too.

Now you want to make me listen to this album again. ;D

The two tracks that I really really like from his album are Prisoners of Concience prt I and Epitaph for a Mariner.
Two stunning songs, especially the latter.

But then again, I'm an epic-freak. ;)

Hmm, maybe early Genesis Collins, yes.
A bit.
He also reminded me of the singer of Unitopia.
That dude, forgot his name and too lazy to look it up, sings like a mixture between Gabriel and Collins.

Arena - "Songs From The Lions Cage"
3. Valley Of The Kings

Unbelievable that Arena's first album remains so incredibly interesting even after more than fifteen years!

PH

Spock's Beard - "V"
6. The Great Nothing

It's nice music, but for some reason I like Neal's solo albums more than his albums with Spock's. Also, I like Spock's post-Neal albums better than the albums with Neal. Except for Snow which is just too good to be true.

Perhaps because of the 'War' concept?

Now listening to the mighty Steven Wilson.

Steven Wilson - "Insurgentes"
9. Get All You Deserve

How does he do it? At first I didn't like this album THAT much, because of the 'noise' all the time. But now I find it strangely similar to taking a bath.

I've heard samples of his new album here and, well, what can I say? So far so good! Can't wait!

2: Live in Europe
3: Live in America

Unexpect - Fables of the ...

Stopped at 2:00 of track 1, due to growling. Unexpect are medieval-kind of metal with violins and - a thing I never heard before - a lady singing, and growling. Yikes.
Arriving somewhere, but not here....

Ben Craven - on bandcamp

wheeew, yes, it's proggy :)
