One of the masterpieces I'v been stuck on lately is:

NP  Yes:  Fly From Here

First time I played it, I started crying, I was simply so overwhelmed. Hasnt happened to me like that for years (not even Nostradamus did it quite that way). The music was simply sooo beautiful, Steve Howe does his magic, like on Going For The One, David Benoit sings so wonderfully, the evocative lyrics, just everything on those first two songs, brought back so many memories .....

WOW, that's music at its best, when it simply carries ya away like that  :) :) :)

Great to be back in YesWorld  8)

Got Drama too btw. Until recently I was sure that wouldnt happen, cuz I couldnt imagine Yes without Jon. But Fly and Drama are Yes too, for real  *horns*

Nicky.

Just have been listening to the new Yes album.
It's really good.
Very modern and still I recognise Yes in it (for as far as I can tell, I've not heard many Yes albums ofcourse (I've got the wrong birthdate ;) )).

Now I'm once again listening to Cloudkicker.
It's an instrumental progressive metal band. Or actually it's just one man who played everything on his own.

His two albums and two EP's are free for everyone:

Make sure you download this, if you didn't already. It's really cool!

Sean Filkins - "War And Peace & Other Short Stories"

Very nice and currently number 1 in the Top 100 of ProgArchives.com and number 6 in the Top 10 of Progwereld.org.
Well done, Sean!

Lucky you.

If all goes well I should receive my über deluxe box + 2cd/dvd within a couple of days.
Could've downloaded it but I want to listen to the actual cd, not a copy.

The only way to get the instrumental versions of the songs is to buy the über deluxe edition? Or is the regular deluxe edition good enough? ;D

Ah maybe why that is why mine has arrived I only got the 1 CD and 1 DVD edition. Yours will be heavier so the postrman will take longer  ;D

NP Steve Hackett - Metamorpheus. I got back into Steve Hackett after High Voltage and am really impressed by Live Rails and Out of the Tunnels Mouth.

Yes, Steve Hackett really rules and is on a great streak the past couple of albums, look forward to Beyond The Shrouded Horizon.

Especially for Nicky:

NP: Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning

Finally bought it some time ago, as recommended by Nicky, great album!

Hope you had a great vacation! Nice to see you back again! ;)

I've just been listening to Porcupine Tree's "The Incident".

It's a grower. I still feel that "Deadwing" is their ultimate album!

NP: Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning

great album!

A classic album  *horns*

Another great album:

NP  Dominici:  O3, Part 2

Maybe not quite DT-league, but up there, pantheon with me  *horns*

Charlie has come a looooong way since his DT-days. I don't like DT's first album, and I don't like Charlie's singing on it. Everytime I put on this album, I have to soon take it out again, as it sounds so wrong  :'(

I'm not either much of a fan of I&W, but Awake: Yup, then we're talkin  *horns*

But back to O3: Some 20 years later, Charlie surprises us with this masterpiece: O3 in three parts, each covering a full cd. He now sings with a fabulous baritone voice, and he has concocted a stunning tale of a terrorist sleeper in the USA. In Part 1, he sings only accompanied by his own guitar playing, and he slowly draws us into this gripping drama. For Parts 2 & 3, he has managed to assemble a band of surprisingly talented young musicians, and together they whip up a tremendous musical tour de force.

If you like DT, I expect you'l enjoy O3 too, and those who don't quite savor Jamie's singing may go better with Charlie's - but guys, just like with DT-albums, give O3 some runs  ;)

The Butterfly Man

Hey guys, since I'm back (kinda), has anyone already heard the brilliant new Dream Theater album?

I think this is the album that will surpass Scenes and Six Degrees and ends up at the very top of my list. :o

Yes, it's that good. *horns* *horns* *horns*

NP Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events

What else to listen to this week ?

I am in the midst of my first listen and I am far from sharing Tom's enthousiasm  :P

1. On the Back Of Angels : Knew it already, still not convinced ...
2. Build me Up, Break Me Down : almost pressed the skip button, really painful at places
3. Lost Not Forgotten : sounds better than the previous tracks despite some Rudess' keyboards parts that I just can't stand anymore  >:( Great guitar solo around the 7' mark.

To be continued, I hope with better sensations ... If I end up liking it as much as BC&SL, which I still hope, it will be fine !

Wolverine - Communication lost

Opeth have a lot to live up to if Heriatge is to surpass this album  *horns*

NP Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Part two  :)

4. This Is The Life : very pleasant ballad at first listen
5. Bridges In The Sky : reminds me of TBOT. I like it too.
6. Outcry : the mega instrumental mid-section doesn't "flow" naturally with the rest of the song, to say the least, but I still like the whole package.
7. Far From Heaven : Piano/voice ballad. Melodic and moving.

Things are getting way better  :D

[To be continued]

NP Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Part three

9. Breaking All Illusions : Wow ! Innovative, fresh, melodic, a masterpiece  *horns*
10. Beneath The Surface : another ballad and another good one.

Temporary conclusion : it sounds good, I would say it's more pop/prog than metal (sorry Nicky  ;)). I feared a "free to put weird keyboards sounds everywhere" Rudess but he is discrete and melodic most of the time. Petrucci delivers a bunch of great solos, LaBrie's voice seems more forced than on BC&SL but it's still OK.

Finally, Tom could be right. Time will tell ...

Thanks for the nice review Bupie! That's really great.
My review will come in time...
