To be frank, I was going through a bout of depression, and I was neither in a good frame of mind to enjoy music nor motivated to seek it out.

Sorry to hear that.

I know what it feels like. Although I know I must be careful with saying that, since I don't know what kind of situation you were/are in. Such remarks are said too often.

But I've been in a depression myself, and to be honest with you, I'm still in it occasionally. I'm going to meet a psychiatrist on a regular basis soon. I'm even temporarily going to quit my study (again!) to get everything back on track. This makes me depressed in itself! :P

Fortunately, I'm feeling better now.

That's good to hear! Hopefully things will stay getting better and better!

Great call, Teunis, that album was like mother's milk to me for a period of my youth  *horns*

Where are you guys right now ?  Knowing you, ya probably got a nice cold beer in front of you. Cheers for good music  ;)

Maybe not so prog, but Gary & Co. can rock the mountains  *horns*

Teunis, I think you'd go for this album - no growl, particularly not from you  ;D

Haven't you heard about the remasters of every studio albums and the three Immersion Box Sets (Dark Side, Wish You and The Wall)?

On September 26th the first one will be release (Immersion) and all the 'normal' remasters as well, I believe in two standards the normal 1 cd version or the 2cd version.

I'm eagerly waiting for this one!!!

OK, interesting  8)

My bro borrowed and recorded quite a number of bootleg albums of Floyd at the time. We could sit and listen to Floyd for hours. Guess there was an occasional bong too. Anyone say "cult"  :D

One of my fave Genesis songs, the first song on Duke  *horns*

Mike is often described as more of a bassist than guitarist, but at the end of this song he plays a pretty nifty guitar solo  8)

The second song on the album, Duchess, is nice too  :)

Anyone here agree with me that Duke is the best Genesis album ?

Probably the 'Genesis' album. Tracks like 'Home By The Sea', 'Second Home By The Sea'  *horns*. Not so into the 70's albums like 'Selling England By The Pound', for most of the fans the fave.

Not for me it isn't.
If we talk about the Collins-era then A Trick of the Tail or Wind and Whutering are very good indeed but after that it all became very poppy. Not that it's really bad but I think that ...And Then There were Three and Abacab are the lesser ones and that Duke is good but not essential.
The two afforementioned (Trick and Wind) are.

QuoteOr which one is your fave ?

Nicky.

Everything prior to A Trick with the exception of From Genesis to Revelation.
Highlights in the Gabriel-era are most definitely Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
But lets not forget Foxtrot or Nursery Cryme or Trespass.
Great songs for instance are The Knife and Visions of Angels from Trespass.
From Nursery Cryme we've got beauties like The Musical Box, The Return of the Giant Hogweed, Seven Stones and The Fountain of Salmacis.
And then Foxtrot with the only epic they've ever wrote, Supper's Ready and a very good second Watcher of the Skies.

Selling England is a stand-alone with tracks like Firth of Fifth, The Battle of Epping Forest and for I'm concerned the best track for  they've ever wrote The Cinema Show. Just blimey awesomeness!  *horns*
On The Lamb there are too many good tracks to list up here. ;)

If you forget that Selling England and The Lamb has ever existed than the other Gabriel-era albums would be top notch as well, more than they are now.

With your predilection for early Genesis and Dark-Side-era Floyd, you seem to be well-founded in classic prog, Mad  8)

Btw how are you with Yes ?

NP  Annihilator:  Metal

Surprisingly good, gets better with a few runs, amazing catchy drive, Priest-like, even heavier  *horns*

Hah, just found out why the first song, Clown Parade, is so particularly good, and has those over-the-top guitar solos: It's got Jeff Loomis in the mix  *horns*

Not really actually.
I do have Alice in Hell which I think is a true masterpiece.
Especially the acoustic intro to Alison Hell, Chrystal Ann is stunning!
I also have Never Neverland, which is good but actually goes further where Alice in Hell ended.

Other than those two I'm unfamiliar with the rest of their discography.

Eh...forgot this question but...

I'm actually no with Yes. ;)

I own a few of their albums, like Close to the Edge which I really like, and Big Generator (Trevor Rabin-era) but there's one thing that holds me from buying anything more from them; Jon Anderson.
I really don't like his kind of singing.  :-\

I do have their new album Fly from Here and although that one is sung by the new vocalist and vocal-wise Jon Anderson's clone, David Benoit.
I have heard that one a few times and it reminds me of Drama and 90125. I quite like it thusfar.
