Great, Bluey, and thanks, I'v been missin that for a while :) :) :)
So next step: Never heard of Little Angels, Thunder, and Pink Cream 69. What are they like, and why do you like'm ?
So you do have two DT-albums that are among your faves !
How come you have so many Bon Jovi's ? - an early crush of yours is my guess.
Interesting to see that PL are among your absfaves. Ms007 was deeply into them some 10-15 years ago (also Tiamat). I just got Believe In Nothing - great album ! What's your fave PL-album ?
And what's your fave Arena-album ?

D'Oh!!! Er... yes... that must read 'Subsurface' - got that mixed up with the tape of the same album I've also got (which was given to me by a friend who had labelled the tape 'Reflect' - probably beause that's what is written on the TV screen on the album cover...)... mega-embarassed now... :-[
Yes, yes, I know I should be blond!! ;)

Well, I don't think many people will know a lot of what is on my list... it's just ALL the music I (used to) listen to over the years, so that's the reason why you will find a lot of Bon Jovi on there, although they're no longer ranked under "favourite bands" any more since I find their last albums a bit... well, disappointing, to say the least.
Quote from: Nicky007 on Fri, 2007-11-16, 12:58:22
Never heard of Little Angels, Thunder, and Pink Cream 69. What are they like, and why do you like'm ?
Little Angels and Thunder are British bands, formed back in the 90's. Both play(ed) a kind of bluesy (Thunder more, Little Angels maybe a little less) good-time "rock'n'roll". Pink Cream 69 is a German band of about the same age (as in 'era', not 'old', although that's probably also correct ;)) who started as a 'typical 90's hard rock' band, but they've become pretty much 'heavy metal' over the years (IMO they're
a lot heavier nowadays).
All three are bands from my 'early days' of listening to music (my personal 'starter drug' to rock music); the Little Angels and Thunder sadly are no more :'( (Toby And The Whole Truth and Bowes & Morley being the latest 'signs of life' of members of the respective band), however, PC69 are still alive and kickin'. *horns*

"Bad Medicine" by Bon Jovi was the first ever rock video I saw - so that's how it all started... I liked the song, wanted to hear more, bought the CD - you know the rest. However, I mainly bought their last few albums because they were the first band I really liked, but I think they've become a bit too 'soft' with the years.
Crush? Well... at least not what you think!! ;D

Draconian Times - definitely! (although the others aren't really bad) I saw them performing "The Last Time" live at MTV's Most Wanted show and I knew that I just HAD TO get this album.

??? From what I heard from Ten on your advice (remember you made me buy the
Essential Collection ;), not at all, really. The two songs I mentioned are above all the essential Ten songs in my book. But so far I only listened once to
EC so it's way too short to make a definitive appreciation ... I have a few months of night painting at home in front of me (which also means time for night music) so I will let you know.

QuoteWhat exactly do you mean by this?
To be really honest, I find
Torn to Shreds much better than the rockers of
EC's CD1 and
Long long way to go much better than the ballads of
EC's CD2. In fact, after listening to
EC's CD1 (the rockers), I found it so mellow that I thought I had made a mistake and put CD2 instead. And CD2 got me asleep after two songs. BUT don't get offended because :
1. Def Leppard is an old time favorite of mine
2. Maybe after a few more listens, I will become an hardcore Ten fan (don't bet too much money on it, though). Second listen starts tonight, promised :)
QuoteAre you making a second Sistine Chapel at home? :D
Almost. In fact, I am trying to renovate the house that was built in late 19th century but I only do the finishing myself because I am not really what you would call an handyman :-[ Tonight is scheduled the painting of the guests room -which will take at least two entire
EC listens- in order to receive you (or Bluey, of course ;D). And bring me some Danish beer, please ;)

I LOVE PC69, especially since they're pretty much from the same region in Germany where I'm from (so they get the so-called "Badenser-Bonus" ;D). I've followed them from their early days and it was a great shock to me when Andi Deris and PC69 split up because I personally think he's the better singer (greater vocal range) - but on the other hand, PC69 have become a lot heavier since David Readman joined them, so that's OK by me too. ;D

Yes, I know, X has been on my shopping list for ages, I should really get it one day - but (I suggest you all sit down now) I must confess that I haven't been 'music shopping' for ages... :o

It's no fun drinking JD if you don't have the right company! (Not that I'm trying to talk anybody into anything... ;D)

I must disappoint you, Nicky, but neither Pink Floyd nor Led Zeppelin ever really 'clicked' with me... maybe because I never smoked anything while listening to them... ;)

Yes, they have some nice songs, but again - it didn't 'click'.
Maybe that needs a bit more explanation: I'm very much 'singer-orientated', meaning that if I like the singer's voice and way to sing, I'll probably also like the rest of the music (as long as it's no Britney Spears sh*t - we're talking hardrock and metal here!). So most of the bands I like have a - more or less - extraordinary singer, like e. g. Queensryche, Magnum, TAoI, Headstone, PC69, Axxis, Hardline, Giant, Gotthard... (BTW, guess who I bumped into at Heathrow airport on Monday - Steve Lee and Leo Leoni!! What a lucky coincidence. :) I was a day late for their gig, though... :( ... but I had a good time in good old UK anyway! :))
So if you take that the other way round, if I don't like the singer, it's very unlikely that I'll like the band... and I think Vanden Plas are one of those "the music is quite okay but I can't stand this guy's voice" bands for me. (Others that go in the same category would be for example Rammstein or Crematory - the music is great, but the singers... aaaargh!)

neither Pink Floyd nor Led Zeppelin ever really 'clicked' with me... maybe because I never smoked anything while listening to them... ;)
OK, you can hit back ! ;)
Actually the spicy stuff was never so compatible with Zep; iac Percy and JPJ were always very straight guys.
With Floyd it was a different story. I cant listen to Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast straight ;D
But I havent touched the stuff (basically) for some 25 years, and Surprise: Floyd still sound great !
Nicky.

... Queensryche ...
I fully agree with you that Geoff Tate is a tremendous singer - and he really "made" Queensryche, because they never really pushed the envelope.
OK, I'll admit that I havent listened all that much to them, and guys you're welcome to disabuse me.
Nicky.

Well, I have no experience whatsoever in this field (except maybe sitting next to someone who consumed it). Never taken any illegal drugs... (alcohol and caffeine are legal!). ;D

I only corrected the OK and added "guys" to make it clear that everyone is welcome to comment. So what's the big deal, Bluey? :)
Nicky.
Oh, no problem at all! :)

I suspect you used the dictionary in the meantime, Bluey. Isnt that so? ;D

Yes!! They have always been one of my favourite bands, from the first note I ever heard of them! Moreover, they have one of the best singers in the business; it's really incredible what Geoff Tate can do with his voice (even more so as I know that he's up to this standard live as well).

Hmmm... "Empire" is a fantastic album, but their undisputable masterpiece is "Operation: Mindcrime". *horns*
I don't think they were able to top that one yet... although most of their albums are pretty good.
I heard Queensrÿche's "Tribe", which is a brilliant album.
The first time I heard Prog Metal.

"Tribe" is nice, but certainly not the best they ever made (IMO).
Try "Operation: Mindcrime" (the video/DVD, if you can) - a great rock opera/musical or whatever you want to call it. It totally blew me away when I heard it for the first time!

I added the following to my ever growing collection:
Caamora
- Walk On Water (EP)
- Embrace (EP)
- She (Box Set incl. double studio CD, double live CD, DVD, bonus DVD with 6 acoustic tracks and extra interview footage)
And before you ask - no, I haven't got the 'She' box set yet - I'm still waiting for it like everybody else (impatiently, that is!).
My box set of "She" was in the mail today! *ola*

Sadly, I won't get to see or listen to any of it until the weekend... :(
Meanwhile, I listened to "She" a few times - oooooh, I love it!!
I also got a chance for some CD shopping, so I got myself
Def Leppard - 'Songs from the Sparkle Lounge'
and
Nightwish - 'Dark Passion Play' (Tour Edition CD + DVD).

Perhaps you can put me out of my misery. :) I bought the Special Edition before I was even aware of the Tour Edition. Is the Tour Edition just the basic album repackaged with the 'Bye Bye Beautiful' DVD as someone told me, or is there something extra in there?
Well, I guess this someone was right - the Tour Edition is the CD and the DVD, packaged in a cardboard 'wrapper' (in lack of a better word) in order to make it look like it's a bit 'more' I think...
These are the contents of the 'bonus' DVD:
Disk: 2
1. Bye Bye Beautiful - Music Video (DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1 und 2.0 sound) (DVD)
2. In Between The Bye Byes - Making Of "Bye Bye Beautiful" (2.0 Sound) (DVD)
3. Amaranth - Music Video (DTS, Dolby Digital 5.1 und 2.0 sound) (DVD)
4. While Your Lips Are Still Red - Bonus Music Video (2.0 Sound) (DVD)
5. Audio Part (2.0 Sound):- Bye Bye Beautiful- The Poet And The Pendulum (demo version)- Escapist- Bye Bye Beautiful (DJ Orkidea remix) (DVD)
