I just finished watching Mike Portnoy's commentary video on Facebook. He listened to the entire album and gave his view on all the songs. I found it interesting.

Yesterday I tried Devin Townsend's latest album on Spotify, but... I don't know... I might pass this one. Anyone here who listened to it?

Most of the reviews are raving, but those of Progwereld.org and a Dutch magazine called 'iO pages' not, they are like 'don't expect something new, I've heard it all before' etc., though they acknowledge the quality of the musicians. Well, I'll always form my own opinion .

Yeah, I read about it. Most other reviews mention the fact that it's nothing really new, but they don't make much of an issue about it, and they'll still give it a 10/10, or 5 star, or whatever.
I dunno, he pretty much carried the Prog flame through the nineties and into the 21st century with Spocks, Transatlantic and his solo albums. The man's a legend. His music is instantly recognisable and high quality. I wouldn't have it any other way. That said, The Ways Of A Fool is something he hasn't done before, I think.

NP  Periphery:  Clear

It's interesting that DT handed over the torch to Periphery. Obviously DT feel that they have struggled enuff, and they can make a comfortable living of their music. They've now settled down with their many fans.

And definitely: They've done it well, given us such a plethora of excellent, exciting music - Thanx for that, DT-guys

So now it's Periphery who are running on the edge with the torch, scrambling with the Muses, clearly carrying the DT-flame. Their music is constantly effervescent, taking new directions, challenging, mind-boggling.

DT had the drawback that they had a rather regular singer. Spencer Sotelo of Periphery is quite different, fronting pandemonium

All of Periphery's music is exciting, maybe excepting I, where they had a low budget and had to find some sorta formula.


When I took the cd outta the envelope, I wondered: What the f*! Altho it certainly was clear, it wasn't clear to me

Not on Spotify indeed, I was naughty . But already deleted from my harddisk, didn't like it at all . Really love 'More Than Meets The Eye' and 'Photoplay', but this one is not my cup of coffee.

After two listenings I have to say I would have expected a little bit more after all the raving reviews I've read, but it's a grower. Will give it much more airplay and have to decide later if it'll get a top-3 spot in my top 10 releases of 2016. I'm hopeful, like Neal always is .

They'll be playing without me . Some nice tracks but overall too screamy vocals and also some weird songs. No, definitely not my favourite music.
