Title: A question.
Post by: Iggy on Thu, 2009-01-08, 22:55:49
How are you supposed to pronounce Ayreon in English?

And does it mean anything or is it just a name?

Nice question, Iggy.  ;)

We've had a similar question on the Ayreon-board a while back (actually, quite a long while).
I think like Air-eon.

You might want to ask Arjen about it. Maybe he can give you some hints.  :D

How's the name-searching progressing?  ;D

As the name is pronounced often enough by the man himself on the 01011001 companion DVD, that should clarify matters.

Or listen to the album "The Final Experiment", you'll soon know how you should pronounce it! :)

No-one replied to this part of the question yet.

It's a name indeed. It's the name of the blind minstrel on "The Final Experiment".
At first Arjen Lucassen wanted to call him Aries and thought it to have three syllables. But then a singer came and said that it has only two syllables. But most of the songs had already been written: problem.
So he quickly changed the name to Ayreon. "Ay" from old English words and "eon" to give it a futuristic sound.

Oh and I still think you should listen to the album "The Final Experiment" anyway!
