No, I'ts just that I very rarely put the blue packet of salt on my crisps when I eat them.

The only person that has ever seen me put salt on my crisps, is Bouge, and it was probably for a sick evil dare  :-\

A crisp???? :o

A crisp is a wafer thin slice of potato fried until it's crispy, hence the name 'crisp'. ;)

In dutch we call it 'chips'.
And the English speaking have another impression of chips which is also potato but not that thin.
The dutch word for the english 'chips' is 'patat' or 'friet'. 'friet' comes from 'fried'.
And there's the circle.

marcello

I was wondering if someone would ask that question.

Cool. So in England,

crisp = flavored potato in a bag.

chip = potato you have with a burger.

I'm confused.  I thought in England a chip was like a french fry in America which is a thin potato strip fried in oil.

Correct.  Obviously the potato you have with your burger would be chipped, otherwise it would just be a fried potato as opposed to potato chips/fries/frites. :)

It is also worth noting that 'fries' in England can be various thicknesses.  These are generally available in supermarkets though, not the great British chippy! ;)
