Yeah, received the newsletter too :). Looking forward to this release *horns*. I intend to buy the DVD, don't find myself playing live cd's that often.

Last words of the newsletter: 'If however you'd prefer to opt out of receiving any further newsletter from this site then please follow the unsubscribe link below, we'd be sorry to see you leave as we have a new album and tour on the horizon!'

I wonder if this is true, it could be that they forgot to edit it and that it was meant for 'The Unquiet Sky' album/tour with a previous newsletter.

Wonderfull album, excellent set list, magnificently played. A good solid 9.8/10

Well, that's my opinion and if you don't agree YOUR'E WRONG, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

For a time I was doubting whether I should buy this or not to be honest.
I don't have the "Rapture" DVD either and that was mainly because of my disappointment with "The Seventh Degree...": the setlist is more or less build around that album. And then a couple of songs that were already on "Caught In The Act" and "Smoke & Mirrors" and a few 'new' ones which are not really the best in my book: Ghost In The Firewall, The Eyes Of Lara Moon and Valley Of The Kings (OK, that one IS a good one!)

When I look at the setlist of "XX", there are the same old songs again. (Don't Forget To) Breathe and A Crack In The Ice and it seems that Bedlam Fayre is also becoming a stock song. And although there are some very good songs on "Contagion", Arena chooses to put the instrumental Riding The Tide and the a capella City Of Lanterns (again) on it instead. It would have been nice to have Painted Man, Salamander or one of the Contagion EP's on it (would also have been a nice promotion for Contagion Max).

In my opinion they should totally drop the eternal Crying For Help VII and try something else for an encore. This is getting silly. Some possible contenders: Welcome To The Cage, Running From Damascus, or bring back the old Jericho again.

Phew... Sorry, I'm sounding like a bitter fan here. ::) You all know that I LOVE Arena! Their latest album is one of the best! And I think I'll pick up this DVD anyway, because from the videos, I can see that musicianship is top notch again! And I'm really looking forward to seeing/hearing Moviedrome played live.

Oh and welcome back Johninblack! ;D

johninblack

:) Paco, good to be back. Will try and get back a bit more regularly now!

PH

That would be really nice! Gelert has also made a post after more than half a decade. It would be great if we could get back a few of the 'original' forum members and liven up this place a bit again.

As the releasedate was 12th February, I wanted to pick up the album this afternoon. My record shop told me the date was changed to 18th February, so I have to be patient for another week.

I received it on the 11th but not had a chance to watch it yet

erik

Received the dvd and cd in the mail today, cd is playing now. Will watch the dvd later this week.
You can always quibble about setlists but hey Moviedrome alone is worth the price of admission. 😎
And Salamander is actually included Paco 😉

Well, exactly!

Really?! :o It's not mentioned on the website.

erik

You got me there, turns out the tracklist on the website is incorrect, track 7 is Salamander, not Butterfly Man (which was played during the tour but apparently not at this Poland gig). Tracklist on the dvd and cd has the right track 7.

Too bad The Butterfly Man isn't on the list then... ;)

Butterfly Man... Salamander... Can't see why they mixed it up. ???
Makes me think of Solomonder. ;D

erik

Guess the mix up happened because these two tracks were played in that spot in the set depending on the gig. I recall it was Butterfly Man in both the Dutch gigs.

Wanted to be sure so just checked the setlist I posted before.
Turns out that track 7 was Butterfly Man and track 8 was Salamander, so I guess we are bit shortchanged with this live release of the tour 😐

It's a great 'ensemble' this CD-set.
A variety of tracks written/recorded over the 20 years - but all performed (and mixed) as a 'snap-shot'.
Not the greatest of separation between the instruments, lacking in real-low bottom-end (IMHO), and a bit dynamically brick-walled.
But - HEY! £12 + P&P gets you a very decent 'bootleg' - I've paid 6x that for a Genesis boot before now...!
I'll give it a 8/10 = minus a star for the lack of a booklet (that I'll look at once and then archive...)

*EDIT: It appears that I'm now officially 'Regular' - my Doctor will be informed and he'll be most happy to learn of this... /EDIT*

Not a real good one I'm afraid... And it pains me to say that I do understand the criticism about the visuals. Contrary to what you might think when you read my post about the setlist: I'm mostly pleased about the songs they've chosen (personal preferences set aside of course) and they are well played!
That said, I have only watched the dvd once. And it's probably because it frustrates me that the visuals are so bad.
I'll make some time this week to watch it again.

Oh! And I'll listen to "The Unquiet Sky" again too! Very nice album!

Teunis

Especially in the beginning of the concert the visuals are very disturbing indeed, it really gets better later on. The music and sound is great though. Will play it too in the near future. And 'The Unquiet Sky' really rocks *horns*.
