Amongst the pressie's were some CDs from my better half.
Now, I always warn Mrs. G against purchasing CDs as a birthday / Xmas gift for me, advising her to refrain / abstain / think again...because if I want it, I've already got it / it's on order / I'm awaiting the remaster / it's totally unavailable...
And yet, with mucho "You're THE most difficult person-in-the-world to buy a present for" posturing, I was er, presented with 3 CDs that weren't any of the above...
Eric Clapton - Cronicles - The Best Of Eric Clapton (as yet unlistened-to, but when Layla is listed as"unplugged", it hasn't inspired me with confidence).
Led Zep - Physical Graffitti Remastered...I've never been a huge Zep fan, only owning the Remasters compilation...but it'll get a spin, and it'll do for the archive.
But WHAT a gift in David Bowie's Heathen...I've never heard / heard of it before (but I think that I may have read about it in Sound-On-Sound magazine, to do with Tony Visconti and Mr. Jones getting it all back together again after all of these years..)
What a FANTASTIC album. It's got great tunes (very early-period Freecloud / Time / Suicide style), but with 2002 production...and none of that experimental Tin Machine noise....Highly recommended.
So, I'm now raising a glass to Mrs. G's refusal to do as she was told.
In fact, I'll do as I was told by Mein Herr KB Matt, and drink beer now.
Cheers, all.
