Took me while to think about this, but I'll finally reply.

Well... first of all, I don't like rap and hiphop music at all, nor am I into the stuff you usually see on MTV, VIVA etc., this is basically why I stopped watching music television something like ten years ago. So my point is, I don't really know what's going on in all the videos you complained about, Paco, but if it really bothers you that much, there's always that little red switch on your remote control to turn it off!
I can switch off television, or put on another radio channel on, but I can't switch off those wannabe thugs in the street without hurting anyone.
See my point? My problem is not that
I am exposed to it, on the contrary: I'm doing my best to avoid these music/videos. My problem is that the youth is exposed to it. As I said in my starting post, Rap and HipHop (and such) often have videoclips which give negative pulses and stimulate bad behaviour. The people watching this, think that this is the way of life. They think it's normal.
Which, of course, isn't a solution for all the - please excuse my language - dumbass kids who are 'glued' to their TV screen every minute of their free time. I fear they wil, just like you said, adopt these rap and hiphop 'stars' as their heroes and their attitude as an admirable way of life. In fact, if you go out on the streets you will certainly find a bunch of I-like-to-wear-my-trousers-below-the-knee's and I-know-my-t-shirt-is-way-too-big-but-it's-supposed-to-be-like-that's, decorated with baseball caps (never worn as it was orignally intended, but backwards and sideways) and 'bling-bling' (fake?) gold necklaces and stuff, talking in something that is hardly recognizable as the German language (well, depending on the country you live in - but I think you know what I mean).
Nevermind that! What about how they look at women? The way they think about authorities? It's not just the caps, the necklaces, and the below-waist-trousers. It's their way of life and the way they think. These are the people that have to feed you when you're old. They are the ones that will have jobs and build society while you are in retirement home. Are they capable?
However, I don't think that you can completely ban rap and hiphop - think about it, wasn't it the same when our parents (and Nicky 
) were still young and rock'n'roll music came up? The older generations were shocked about the sexual contents of the music and the dance moves and wanted it to be banned because they thought it would 'ruin' their oh-so-pure kids. Seems to be a very similar thing, don't you think...?
It is similar, but it's worse now. And it's not a linear increasing line either. The increasing increases. It's gotta stop somewhere.
And again, the same for homosexual people. I don't mind other people's sexual preferences, as this is their private matter; if a man loves another man instead of a woman, fine, who am I to judge? I also don't mind them having their parades - like Nicky said, if you don't like it, don't go to see one, and if you stumble into one, just don't look if it offends you! The Berlin "Love Parade" is also very sexually explicit, and the people there are definitely NOT all homosexual.
Tolerance must come from both sides. "Live and let live" sounds very nice and all, but when someones 'live' gets in the way of my 'live'? Who goes first? Who gets the right to live his 'live', so to speak?
What's the point of these love parades anyway? Part of the fun is the exposing, especially because it is so controversial.

True (and my choice of the word 'censorship' is possibly not entirely fortunate), but there should be a universal idea of ethics. We don't want racism, we don't want sexism, we don't want to offense people. Yet Rap and HipHop sets up the idea of the whole gang-culture (drugs, weapons, harems, bad language, etc.) which undermines society's ideas of ethics. And these exhibitionistic homosexuals that perform sexual gestures in an otherwise normally functioning and busy neighbourhood is below par for a society where you want to educate and nurture your still-somewhat-innocent children, to hopefully become well-balanced and social participating citizens.

Freedom of speech is a good thing. But it often doesn't blend very well with the "well-mannered politeness" we wish from others. Know what to say, don't say everything you know. But besides that, "Freedom of speech" doesn't have to mean "freedom of act".
You can talk to me about homosexuality. No problem. But you don't have to act it in front of me.

Brilliant! Too bad you (like me) seem to be having a big hiatus at the moment, so you probably won't see this.
By the way, as you can see, I am trying to revive some old threads. Particularly the ones consisting a bit of depth and thinking work/challenge.
I hope it provokes some more discussion.
